Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 10, 2013) — Boardings at Jamestown Regional Airport, jumped in September this year.<\/p>\n

Manager, Matt Leitner says September\u2019s boardings were up 49 percent, over September of 2012, from 171 to 253. He said that was the highest number of boardings for a September, and the second highest number of boardings this year.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the tower for the new airport beacon has arrived on site, and is expected to be installed this Monday. The present beacon, 71 years old will be sent to the Bismarck Air Museum, that is yet to be constructed.<\/p>\n

He added that the new runway lighting is installed and will be adjusted.<\/p>\n

Leitner said the spring of 2014 is the target date to start construction of nine hangars the first phase of new hangar construction. Current the project is in the planning and design phase, and includes ramp and other lighting.<\/p>\n

He said the Requests For Proposals for an Essential Air Service carrier for Jamestown will go out at the end of this month.<\/p>\n

The carrier would be in place for Jamestown by March 31, 2014. The selected carrier, if different than the present carrier, Great Lakes Airlines, would then have 30 days to have such items as new signage, in place.<\/p>\n

He said Great Lakes Airlines may continue, or another carrier could take its place, depending on which airline is selected, under a new contract.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 10, 2013 \u2013 The Jamestown City Fire Department continues to seek recruits.<\/p>\n

Chief Jim Reuther says there are six volunteer positions available, with the goal to fill 8 spots to bring the total to 40 City Fire Department firefighters.<\/p>\n

Experience is a plus, however, those accepted will undergo training.<\/p>\n

Those interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter may contact the Jamestown City Fire Department at 701-252-1441.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News (Oct 10, 2013) — The Frontier Village Association will approach the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation for a $5,000 grant.<\/p>\n

The money would be earmarked to restore the Jamestown Parade Train, which was built by longtime railroad man the late James Carlascio.<\/p>\n

The FVA approved seeking the grant on a request from Shawn Syverson, a Jamestown mechanic who has been working to restore the four-car train replica, using his own money.<\/p>\n

Syverson proposes that the Frontier Village assume ownership of the train after he restores it, as he becomes the train\u2019s engineer, and driver, and could train other people to drive the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The train is actually a motor vehicle with three attached cars \u2014 a coal tender, a flatbed trailer and a caboose.<\/p>\n

The train has fallen into disrepair after Carlascio gave the train to Bonzanaville, in in Fargo, in 1998.<\/p>\n

FVA President Charlie Tanata said the association will submit the grant request and see what happens.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 10, 2013) \u2013 The N.D. Department of Human Services\u2019 Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) recently honored several employees for their work assisting North Dakotans with disabilities to obtain employment.<\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/p>\n

Jennifer Moldenhauer and <\/b>Debra Carlson, Jamestown<\/b>, were recipients of the Director\u2019s Award for Counselor Achievement. <\/i>This award highlights the top 10 percent of counselors with the highest number of individuals placed into employment. <\/b><\/p>\n

Robyn Throlson,<\/b> Bismarck and <\/b>Derek Kimmes, Jamestown, were co-recipients of the Exemplary Service Award<\/i>. This award recognizes outstanding case service to VR clients by showing creative thinking, direct work with multiple agencies, and consistent client follow-up.<\/b><\/p>\n

Other honorees included:<\/p>\n

The Career Achievement Awards<\/i> are based on the number of people with disabilities placed into employment over the course of a vocational rehabilitation counselor\u2019s career. The awards start at the 100 Club award <\/i>level and increase in increments of 100.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A Mandan man on trial for manslaughter in the death of another man after a house party fight a year ago has been convicted of a lesser charge.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jurors on Thursday found 23-year-old Colten Towry guilty of aggravated assault. The charge carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison — half of what Towry could have faced had he been convicted of manslaughter.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Towry was accused of punching 30-year-old Derek Oshkeshequoam (awsh-KEESH’-kuh-wawm) at the October 2012 party. Oshkeshequoam fell and hit his head on pavement, and died days later at a hospital. Towry testified that he was trying to break up a fight between Oshkeshequoam and another man when the incident happened.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Wheat farmer Steve Jensen says he had been smelling crude oil for days on his farm near Tioga, in northwestern North Dakota. But he didn’t think much of it until his combine tires became coated with crude.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jensen says the crude oil was “spewing and bubbling six inches high” at the apparent break in an underground pipeline.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State health officials say more than 20,000 barrels of crude oil spewed out of a Tesoro Corp. oil pipeline in Jensen’s wheat field. The spill was discovered on Sept. 29.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Obama administration said Thursday it will allow states to use their own money to reopen parks. And governors in at least four states have asked for authority to reopen national parks within their borders because of the economic impacts caused by the park closures.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff Zent, a spokesman for Gov. Jack Dalrymple, says Dalrymple has not made a request.\u00a0 Zent says no money has been set aside to cover the costs.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota is elevating the level of training for students learning to fly large drones.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Grand Forks school will offer an advanced unmanned aircraft systems program because of the addition of a state-of-the-art simulator.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state provided $2.7 million in grants to help finance what’s called the Predator Mission Aircrew Training System, or PMAT.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Students are being trained on smaller simulators in advance of the new course scheduled to begin in January.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The program will teach students to maneuver long-range drones that can fly between 18,000 and 30,000 feet.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 UND aviation professor John Bridewell says the course will help fill demand for drone pilots.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The teams will play at the University of Vermont in Burlington in the first of up to eight meetings before the Sochi Games February in southern Russia. A second exhibition is scheduled for October 17th in Boisbriand, Quebec.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Canada and the U.S. have met in the final of all 15 women’s world championships, with the Canadians holding a 10-5 record. However, the American ladies have won four of the last five world titles.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The development foundation will back the project up to $41 million. It still needs approval from the state Board of Higher Education and state Legislature.
