Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out about 8:15 p.m. Monday (Aug 27, 2012) to a report of a natural gas leak at 1510 Western Park Village.<\/p>\n

Using testing equipment no leak was found.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chief Jerry Kainz says, no odor was detected, and it\u2019s believed the odor was coming from service work at the waste water treatment plant.<\/p>\n

Nine fire fighters responded to the call.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Council met in Special Session Monday afternoon (Aug 27, 2012) at City Hall. All members were present.<\/p>\n

The City Council met relative to improvements to the new Titan Addition.<\/p>\n

The Council was presented a map indicating the area that could potentially be served by the district.<\/p>\n

The Council members approved a Resolution to proceed with the design and create Water and Sewer District #12-31 and #12-61.<\/p>\n

The City Council also approved a Resolution to authorize the submission to the NDDOT for a Utility Occupancy Application\u2026 and Permit for those water and Sewer Districts.<\/p>\n

The Council voted unanimously to approve all Resolutions.<\/p>\n

At the September 4, 2012 Jamestown City Council meeting there will be a Public Hearing and Second Reading of an ordinance to annex all of Titan Addition excepting therefrom all that portion previously annexed as described in the City Resolution.<\/p>\n

The meeting was presented live on CSi Cable 67, followed by replays.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The 2nd<\/sup> Act Community Theater in Jamestown is in rehearsals for the upcoming production of Neil Simons\u2019 “The Odd Couple.”<\/p>\n

The production consists of dinner theater, and a matinee.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s (Aug 27, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, theater group member Chris Sheppard said the production dates, at the newly remodeled Arts Center in Jamestown will be September 20, 21, and 22, 2012.<\/p>\n

The dinner theater will be each evening starting with dinner at 6-p.m., and the play at 7-p.m.<\/p>\n

That Saturday the 22nd<\/sup> there will be a matinee performance at 2-p.m.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the dinner theater are $20 for Arts Center members and $25 for non-members.<\/p>\n

The tickets for the Saturday matinee play-only performance are $7 for Arts Center members and $10 for non-members.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s suggested that tickets be ordered early, as past plays have been quickly sold out.<\/p>\n

Also on our show Director Lori Dorr said, the leads in The Odd Couple are, Ben Rogers who plays Oscar Madison, and Reggie Von Beekum who plays Felix Unger.<\/p>\n

On our show, Monday Bill Nybo, who plays Vinnie, a poker player said the cast of six men and two women are studying the roles which are similar to the charcters in the Neil Simon play, and television series of the same name.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Minot construction worker accused of
\nkilling his three daughters is expected to enter a plea in a
\nWisconsin court.<\/p>\n

Aaron Schaffhausen is due in court today for an arraignment hearing.<\/p>\n

Authorities believe Schaffhausen killed the girls last month and then called the mother to come home because her children were dead.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The ex-roommate of a North Dakota man
\naccused of making synthetic drugs that killed two people has
\npleaded guilty to conspiracy.<\/p>\n

24-year-old William Fox, of Grand Forks, admitted Monday to
\ndistributing the synthetic hallucinogens allegedly made by his
\nroommate, Andrew Spofford.<\/p>\n

Fox faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 20.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The 22-year-old Spofford faces a similar drug conspiracy charge
\nand remains in federal custody.<\/p>\n

He has not yet entered a plea.
\nThree others also face state or federal charges in the case.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and
\n17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn., died of apparent
\ndrug overdoses from the hallucinogens.<\/p>\n

Authorities say at least five others were hospitalized with overdoses.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of offering a North Dakota
\nHighway Patrol trooper up to $3,000 to get out of a drunken driving
\narrest has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Matthew Hystad, of Mandan, had been charged with felony bribery.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge, was given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay $325 in court fees.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the trooper pulled over Hystad on July 6 for
\nspeeding, and that Hystad offered the officer money after being
\narrested on suspicion of driving drunk.<\/p>\n

Hystad later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was ordered to serve five days in jail and pay $750 in court fees.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A Dickinson man who allegedly choked his girlfriend until she passed out has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Matthew Foxworthy also is accused of knocking out some of the woman’s teeth and breaking some of her facial bones in the mid-June incident, as well as chipping the tooth of a man who tried to help her.
\n\u00a0
\nFoxworthy is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and fleeing police. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the attempted murder charge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Many small grains in North Dakota were nearing harvest completion after a week where hot and dry conditions sped up row crop maturity.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop report that harvest of barley, spring wheat and oats was approaching 100 percent. Durum wheat was 81 percent harvested.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Republican U.S. Senate
\ncandidate Rick Berg is scheduled to get a few minutes in the
\nspotlight at the Republican National Convention.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Berg is supposed to deliver a two- to-three minute speech from
\nthe convention stage Tuesday afternoon. He’s one of a number of
\nscheduled speakers.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Berg says his talk will contrast North Dakota’s prosperity with
\nwhat he calls the failed economic record of Democratic President
\nBarack Obama.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Berg says he rehearsed his speech Monday, and he’s excited by
\nthe chance to “brag North Dakota up a little bit.”
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The start of the convention in Tampa, Florida, was delayed by
\nTropical Storm Isaac. Berg says the storm has caused some heavy
\nrain and wind, but it hasn’t been as disruptive as some people
\nfeared.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The number of rigs drilling for oil in
\nNorth Dakota is at the lowest level in a year.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The State Department of Mineral Resources reports that 188 rigs
\nwere drilling last week.<\/p>\n

That’s the lowest level since August 2011, when 187 rigs were active.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A record 218 rigs were drilling in western North Dakota’s oil
\npatch in late May.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Agency spokeswoman Alison Ritter says the dip in drilling is due
\npartly to more efficient rigs and the increased costs to operate
\nthem.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A $4.7 million runway renovation project for
\nthe airport in Mandan is starting earlier than expected.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mandan Airport Manager Jim Lawler says the project will now start in 2013, not 2016.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The newspaper reports that the Federal Aviation Administration
\napproved the earlier start.<\/p>\n

Federal funding will pay for 90 percent of the project, while state and local funding will each cover 5 percent of the costs.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lawler says the project will replace the 35-year-old asphalt
\nsurface with concrete and add new lighting.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 4,400-foot main runway serves 15,000 single-engine and light
\ntwin-engine plane takeoffs and landings per year.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) – The head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs says there are issues on the Spirit Lake reservation that need to be “resolved and corrected.”

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BIA director Mike Black’s comments came midway through a Monday meeting between tribal officials and officials from the Department of Interior.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Federal officials are visiting with tribal leaders about improvements to the tribe’s social services department.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A study conducted by the North Dakota High
\nSchool Activities Association found that there were at least 580
\nsports-related concussions during the 2011-12 academic year.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State lawmakers recommended the study. The activities association surveyed 169 member schools and got 117 responses.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Association Executive Secretary Sherm Sylling says the 580
\nconcussions related to 24 sports and activities is significant,
\nthough he has nothing to compare it to.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sport with the most concussions in the survey was football,
\nwith 232; that means one out of every 18 football players suffered
\na concussion last fall.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Overall, about one in every 45 North Dakota High School athletes
\nsuffered a concussion.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo activities director Todd Olson says there is more
\nawareness of concussions, which has been good for athletes.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – University of North Dakota football players are pleased with the new artificial turf in the Alerus Center.<\/p>\n

The team practiced on the new field for the first time Sunday.<\/p>\n

Defensive lineman Ross Brenneman says the turf is easier on the knees, and nicer to run on. He says it will speed up the tempo of practices.<\/p>\n

UND earlier this year agreed to put $2 million toward the $3.8 million project at the city-owned arena where the football team plays its home games.<\/p>\n

UND opens the season against South Dakota Mines on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Red Sox have placed designated hitter David Ortiz back on the 15-day disabled due to lingering problems with a strained right Achilles.<\/p>\n

Ortiz, who suffered the injury in mid-July, returned to action in Friday’s win over Kansas City, getting two hits and two RBIs, but has not played since due to discomfort.

\u00a0MANKATO, Minn. (AP) – The wife of the Minnesota State-Mankato football coach accused of child pornography says her husband is innocent.<\/p>\n

Todd Hoffner of Eagle Lake faces charges after authorities say they found nude images of Hoffner’s children on his cellphone.<\/p>\n

His wife, Melodee, says the images are innocent and that she and her husband were “in shock” when he was arrested.<\/p>\n

METAIRIE, La. (AP) – The New Orleans Saints have changed their practice and travel plans, heading for Cincinnati as Tropical Storm Isaac headed for the Gulf Coast.

\nwill stop making inkjet printers as part of a drive to cut costs.
\nThe printer and software company says it will close its inkjet

It is also putting its inkjet technology up for sale. Lexmark had about 13,300
\nemployees as of Dec. 31.
