News) &#8212; The University of Jamestown Theatre will open the 2013-14 season with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic &#8220;Carousel.&#8221; The show runs Oct. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Reiland Fine Arts Center\u2019s DeNault Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2 guests included Director, Mike McIntyre, Sydney Johnson who plays &#8220;Julie&#8221; and Chris Coppinger, who plays &#8220;Jigger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McInyre said the plays centers around, Julie, a millworker, who falls for carnival barker Billy. Before long, worldly concerns strain the romance, and the newly expectant father goes to tragic measures to provide for his family.<\/p>\n<p>Carousel is often considered Richard Rodgers&#8217;s most beautiful score, featuring songs like &#8220;You\u2019ll Never Walk Alone,&#8221; &#8220;June is Bustin\u2019 Out All Over,&#8221; and &#8220;If I Loved You.&#8221; It includes a ballet scene.<\/p>\n<p>He said there are 35 cast members, including University, high school and elementary school students, plus 20 members in the orchestra, with choreography provided by a University student. A trio of down-and-out troupers set out for Hollywood to hit it big in the early days of talkies in this hilarious comedy.<\/p>\n<p>The season concludes May 1 with &#8220;An Evening Of One-Acts,&#8221; original works by the University\u2019s playwriting class.<\/p>\n<p>Other productions, individually are $8 each.<\/p>\n<p>Season tickets are available for $25 and include admission to all four productions. News) &#8212; The Jamestown City Park Board has delayed action on an easement agreement with the City of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The issue is determination if the Parks and Recreation Department will received a break on it water bill.<\/p>\n<p>The easement agreement with the city would allow city workers to gain access to some city-owned water wells in McElroy Park.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Larry Knoblich says he will visit with City Administrator Jeff Fuchs on how to proceed with a reduction in the water bill.<\/p>\n<p>A special meeting of the city parkboard can be held to approve the easement if people are concerned about it.<\/p>\n<p>Parks and Recreation Department, Doug Hogan says city workers have always had access to the water well sites and the agreement was just a housekeeping item that city officials want resolved.<\/p>\n<p>The commission also approved $15,000 from the 2014 budget to helpwith the purchase of bleachers and a press box for the fastpitch softball diamond Number 11 at McElroy Park.<\/p>\n<p>The cost for the bleachers and press box is about $28,000, with half of the costs being covered by a match grant.<\/p>\n<p>The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Executive Advisory Board, on September 20, 2013, approved a $15,000 grant request from the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department for the addition of a press box to the recently improved fast-pitch softball diamond number 11, at McElroy Park.<\/p>\n<p>The total cost of the press box is estimated at $25,000 to $30,000.<\/p>\n<p>The press box to be located behind home plate is addition to recent improvements to diamond 11, which has included a scoreboard, new dugouts, and fences. Handicapped accessible seating is also be looked at.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News (Oct 14, 2013) &#8212; The Jamestown City Planning Commission unanimously approved a housing development plat for the Lindberg Addition.<\/p>\n<p>The plat is the proposed location for 14 patio homes near the former Job Service North Dakota building on Second Street Southwest.<\/p>\n<p>The old Job Service building is zoned as commercial space and will be developed as office space.<\/p>\n<p>The plat approval will be on the November 4, 2013 City Council agenda, for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 15, 2013) &#8212; The Stutsman County Relay for Life chapter will hold its kick-off meeting On Tuesday November 5, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Paul\u2019s United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with cancer, survivors or others who support the cause are all urged to come, said Sue Parries, who is a cancer survivor.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will also introduce people to local and regional resources available to cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families.<\/p>\n<p>The Relay for Life meeting is also to connect people for support.<\/p>\n<p>The Relay for Life committee is also looking for more committee members.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Federal Bureau of Investigation has concluded that a man who killed himself in Parshall the day a grandmother and three of her grandchildren were slain in nearby New Town was responsible for those deaths.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI says its investigation has determined that 21-year-old Kalcie Eagle shot and killed 64-year-old Martha Johnson, 13-year-old Benjamin Schuster, 10-year-old Julie Schuster and 6-year-old Luke Schuster on Nov. 18, 2012.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eagle had been considered a person of interest in the killings. The FBI now says in a statement that Eagle killed the family members with a hunting rifle before committing suicide by cutting his own throat. Authorities say he had methamphetamine in his system at the time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FBI spokesman Kyle Loven\u00a0says investigators did not determine a motive for the killings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Bismarck woman accused of watching too many children in her home and neglecting one of them has pleaded not guilty.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-one-year-old Bonnie Maddock is charged with felony child neglect or abuse and a misdemeanor count of unlawfully providing day care services. She is due back in court Nov. 18.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Maddock was charged after a 4-year-old boy in her care wandered away from her home and was found walking alone at a city intersection. Authorities also determined that Maddock allegedly cared for more than five children at once without a license.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the felony charge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A case involving a North Dakota couple who say they should not be prosecuted for medical marijuana is likely headed to the state Supreme Court.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brian Kuruc and his wife, Rebecca Larson, of Dickinson, were apprehended at a Casselton motel in January and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. They have pleaded not guilty.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge Wickham Corwin ruled earlier this month that should the case go to trial, the jury would not be instructed that a pot prescription from Washington state is a valid defense to possession with intent to deliver or simple possession.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorneys Mark Friese and Charles Sheeley say their clients plan next week to enter conditional guilty pleas, after which they should file an appeal to the Supreme Court over rulings by Corwin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; A man wanted in a fatal bar shooting in Minneapolis two months ago has been arrested in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forty-two-year-old Ron Powell of Minneapolis was arrested Friday in Fargo, N.D.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Star Tribune\u00a0 reports Powell was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and illegal possession of a firearm in the death of 51-year-old Mark Stephenson.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Along with killing Stephenson, Powell also is accused of shooting and wounding his intended target, Anthony Collins, in a dispute over money and a car.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to the complaint, Collins was celebrating his birthday in Champions Bar on Aug. 8 when he walked up to Powell and punched him. Powell fell to the floor, pulled a gun and fired three shots. Collins was shot in both legs and Stephenson in the femoral artery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A federal appeals judge from North Dakota says he&#8217;s supporting a campaign to get an American Indian woman from the state released from federal prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge Myron Bright sits on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He says the case of Dana Deegan shows the need to reform how federal courts treat Native Americans.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Deegan was convicted in federal court in 2007 of second-degree murder of her infant son on the Fort Berthold Reservation. The Grand Forks Herald reports\u00a0 she&#8217;s serving a 10-year sentence.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bright says Indians convicted of serious crimes on reservations often face harsher sentences than non-Indians get in state courts for the same crimes.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bright on Monday urged people at a University of North Dakota forum to get involved in the effort to free Deegan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Tesoro Corp. says part of a broken pipeline that leaked 20,600 barrels of crude oil in a wheat field in northwestern North Dakota will be sent to an independent lab for testing.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Texas-based company says Tuesday that it will &#8220;remove, reroute and replace&#8221; a 200-foot section of pipe. The company says federal regulators have approved the plan.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Company officials are investigating what caused the hole in the 6-inch steel pipeline. The spill was discovered on Sept. 29 by a farmer harvesting wheat.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say the spill has been contained and no water sources have been contaminated.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tesoro says it is developing plans to restart the pipeline but the timeline is not yet known.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota oil drillers are continuing to produce oil at a record pace and are closing in on a million barrels of oil a day.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Department of Mineral Resources says the state produced an average of 911,242 barrels per day in August. That&#8217;s up from an average of 875,736 barrels daily in July.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Agency records show oil production in North Dakota has more than doubled since 2011, when the daily production average for August was about 446,000 barrels of oil.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota&#8217;s oil patch had a record 9,452 producing wells in August, up from 9,334 in July.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota also produced a record 31 million cubic feet of natural gas in August, or more than 1 million cubic feet daily.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. Police have no specific suspect yet but believe the explosions were part of a labor dispute. They say the bombs made by putting dry ice in 20-ounce bottles could have caused serious injury to anyone in close proximity, though no one was hurt. Police consider them as dangerous as pipe bombs.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) &#8211; Officials in Newtown, Conn., say materials from the old Sandy Hook Elementary School will be pulverized and metal will be melted down in an effort to eliminate nearly every trace of the building where a gunman killed 26 people. The goal is to prevent exploitation of any remnants of the building.
