(AP) &#8211; A study conducted by the North Dakota High School Activities Association found that there were at least 580 sports-related concussions during the 2011-12 academic year.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State lawmakers recommended the study. The\u00a0 activities association surveyed 169 member schools and got 117 responses.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Association Executive Secretary Sherm Sylling says the 580<br \/>\nconcussions related to 24 sports and activities is significant,<br \/>\nthough he has nothing to compare it to.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sport with the most concussions in the survey was football,<br \/>\nwith 232; that means one out of every 18 football players suffered<br \/>\na concussion last fall.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Overall, about one in every 45 North Dakota High School athletes<br \/>\nsuffered a concussion.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo activities director Todd Olson says there is more<br \/>\nawareness of concussions, which has been good for athletes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FARGO, N.D.
