{"id":298302,"date":"2026-03-17T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=298302"},"modified":"2026-03-17T12:39:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T17:39:05","slug":"und-track-field-tallies-top-5-finishes-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=298302","title":{"rendered":"UND Track &amp; Field Tallies Top 5 Finishes in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/und-track31426.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/und-track31426.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-298303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/und-track31426.jpg 400w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/und-track31426-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/und-track31426-311x175.jpg 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>San Diego CA (UND) &#8211; North Dakota track and field closed the opening weekend of outdoor competition in convincing fashion, collecting 29 top-five finishes, including five individual crowns, out at the PLNU Sean Lion Invite on Saturday.<br><br>It all began with results from Friday night&#8217;s women&#8217;s hammer throw being posted, naming\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/kaylynn-red-tomahawk\/12812\">Kaylynn Red Tomahawk<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0runner-up of the event with her mark of 177-8 (54.15m).\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/cailey-moton\/12825\">Cailey Moton<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(169-6, 51.68m) followed in fourth and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/julia-matthews\/12807\">Julia Matthews<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(165-8, 50.50m) took fifth.<br><br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/ava-phrakonkham\/13656\">Ava Phrakonkham<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0raced to victory in the women&#8217;s 100-meter dash, clocking an 11.94 for the top finish and the fourth-best time in school history.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/gretchen-raney\/13657\">Gretchen Raney<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0finished close behind in third place with her time of 12.12 that tied for seventh all-time.<br><br>A clocking of 14.68 was good enough for fifth-place and the ninth-best mark in school history as\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/ryan-lange\/13601\">Ryan Lange<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0made his event debut in the men&#8217;s 110-meter hurdles. Nearby,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/marta-marksa\/12806\">Marta Marksa<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0raced her way to the top of the podium in the women&#8217;s 100-meter hurdles with her speedy time of 13.83 to take the event crown. Marksa also added in another crown in the women&#8217;s 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line first in 1:00.52.<br><br>In the women&#8217;s 200-meter dash, Phrakonkham collected another UND Top-10 finish with her time of 24.94 to take second place and sit ninth in school history.<br><br>UND&#8217;s track domination continued in the women&#8217;s 800-meter run, where\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/brooklyn-brouse\/12781\">Brooklyn Brouse<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0won the event with her time of 2:12.27.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/gabriella-ruggeri\/13661\">Gabriella Ruggeri<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0ran a 2:13.61 for third place and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/mya-phippen\/13655\">Mya Phippen<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0rounded out the top-five with her clocking of 2:16.22 for fifth place.<br><br>All three competing Fighting Hawks placed in the top four of the men&#8217;s 1500-meter run, featuring\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/till-woldrich\/13623\">Till Woldrich<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0as champion in 3:55.96.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/henrik-lindstrot\/12840\">Henrik Lindstrot<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took runner-up in 3:57.24 as\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/darby-griffin\/13595\">Darby Griffin<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0ran a 4:02.50 for fourth place. In the women&#8217;s half of the event, Ruggeri clocked a 4:40.54 to take third place in her event debut.<br><br>In the men&#8217;s high jump,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/sawyer-nelson\/12860\">Sawyer Nelson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0finished as runner-up with his mark of 6-4 3\/4 (1.95m), which now sits ninth in the UND record books.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/anya-williams\/12828\">Anya Williams<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0also claimed second place in the women&#8217;s portion of the event with her personal-best mark of 5-7 (1.70m) that ties for eighth all-time.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/tiffanie-magnusson\/12804\">Tiffanie Magnusson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0joined her in the top-five with her height of 5-3 (1.60m).<br><br>That same women&#8217;s pair collected a pair of top-five finishes in the long jump, with Magnusson taking home the runner-up placing after her leap of 18-7 (5.66m) while Williams (18-5 1\/4, 5.62m, PR) finished fourth.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/shane-zierden\/12866\">Shane Zierden<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and Nelson finished back-to-back in the men&#8217;s event finals, taking seventh (21-0, 6.40m) and eighth (20-9, 6.34m, PR), respectively.<br><br>Williams went on to leap her way into third place of the women&#8217;s triple jump finals with her personal-best mark of 39-1 (11.91m) that now sits fourth in school history.<br><br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/emily-ash\/12780\">Emily Ash<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0claimed runner-up in the women&#8217;s pole vault with her mark of 12-0 1\/2 (3.67m) while\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/carter-byron\/12834\">Carter Byron<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0qualified for the men&#8217;s javelin throw finals and finished eighth overall with his mark of 167-6 (51.07m).<br><br>In the men&#8217;s shot put, two UND athletes qualified for the event finals, led by\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/tyler-thoreson\/13618\">Tyler Thoreson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(53-7 1\/2, 16.34m) in fourth place and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/boaz-raderschadt\/12862\">Boaz Raderschadt<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(50-4, 15.34m) in ninth place. Two Fighting Hawks also qualified for the women&#8217;s finals, with Matthews (46-4 1\/4, 14\/13m, eighth all-time) taking second and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/haidyn-skeen\/12814\">Haidyn Skeen<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(43-5 1\/4, 13.24m) finishing ninth.<br><br>All three Fighting Hawks made the finals of the women&#8217;s discus throw, led by Skeen&#8217;s fourth-place finish (143-2, 43.65m, PR). Moton (135-6, 41.31m) came fifth and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/ilaria-villa\/13668\">Ilaria Villa<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(131-0, 39.93m) was sixth.<br><br>The team of\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/cruz-megazzini\/12843\">Cruz Megazzini<\/a><\/dfn>,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/dash-ohlsen\/13610\">Dash Ohlsen<\/a><\/dfn>, Max Roller and Neil clocked a 41.61 to take third place overall in the men&#8217;s 4&#215;100-meter relay and now sit fifth all-time at UND.
