Barnes County (Valley News Live) – High winds overturned a pickup and trailer on Interstate 94 Tuesday morning, briefly blocking both eastbound lanes and highlighting the dangers of driving in strong gusts, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crash happened about 9:36 a.m. near mile marker 288 in Barnes County. Troopers said a 2019 Ford F-350 pulling an empty enclosed trailer was headed east on I-94 when the driver lost control while traveling too fast for the windy conditions. The pickup and trailer tipped onto their side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries, according to the patrol. He was cited for care required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both eastbound lanes were blocked for about an hour and a half. Traffic was routed slowly along the shoulder under the direction of law enforcement until the scene was cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Highway Patrol urged drivers to adjust their driving during high winds \u2014 especially those in semis, campers and vehicles pulling box-type trailers. Troopers said drivers should slow down, keep both hands on the wheel, use extra caution when hauling trailers and consider delaying travel in severe winds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
