Mary Jane (Ludwig) Collins, 93, of Harris, Missouri, and most recently of Hurst, Texas, passed away Thursday evening, May 21, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The daughter of Howard and Clara Hendriks Ludwig, she was born at home and delivered by her grandmother on March 29, 1933, in Valley City, North Dakota. She graduated from Valley City High School and attended Valley City State Teachers College. She was one of nine children born to Howard and Clara and lived in Valley City for most of her young adult life. On August 10, 1957, she married William Dennis Collins of Valley City, who preceded her in death in January of 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surviving are four children: Michael Scott Collins of Eugene, Oregon, Michelle (Tom) McAreavy of Columbia, Missouri, Cindy (Joe) Rizzo of Hurst, Texas, and Shereen Rexing of Jamesport, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Candace (Chad) Stracener and Nicholas (Jessica) Collins; Ashley (Rexing) Bontrager, Amy and Abbie Rexing, Paul and John Rizzo; great-grandchildren, Colin and Liam Stracener. Colton and Emma Bontrager, Wyatt Collins and numerous nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Collins was a homemaker when her children were young and was very active in her local grange and church, served as room mother for all her children and supported her children’s activities. Later, she worked 27 years as an aide and a librarian at Newtown Harris School in Newtown, Missouri. She was an avid gardener and animal lover, enjoyed planting flowers, feeding the many hummingbirds and other birds who frequented her feeders, and watching the multitude of birds who made her yard their home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary Jane\u2019s funeral service will be held at 10:30 Monday, June 1, at Traditions Funeral Services, Oliver-Nathan Chapel, Valley City. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
