On June 10th Brent unexpectedly drew his final breath at the age of 70 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. He had a beautiful final day running errands, spending time with his dogs, and tending his garden. His sudden passing has left his family and friends bereft with grief, but memories of him are bringing solace during this difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brent was born in Jamestown, North Dakota on October 7th, 1955 to Edward and Loretta (Ordemann) Burkett. He spent his early days hunting and fishing with his father and brothers, developing a passion for the great outdoors. He had a love of hockey: he was a goal keeper, and his first pair of goalie pads were strapped on Sears Roebuck catalogs. Brent graduated from Jamestown High in 1973. On one fateful night while playing wallybally, his future wife Emeline fainted, and he literally swept her off her feet. They married on July 10, 1986, so they were just shy of their 40th wedding anniversary. He worked at Collins Aerospace in a multitude of positions. His career spanned 45 1\/2 years, and he made countless professional and personal connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family was always most important to Brent. He would travel thousands upon thousands of miles to watch his kids and grandchildren play sports. He never missed a hockey game, tennis match, or band concert. Hunting and fishing were his other passions, and he shared the beauty of the great outdoors with his kids, grandkids, family, and friends. He was also a professional surfer, as in channel surfer. The TV remote was never out of reach, and he would flick between multiple shows at a time much to the chagrin of those around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brent was known to many as being a kind and compassionate person, consistently going out of his way to help others whenever there was a need. He received the Carnegie Hero award in 1997 when he saved trapped rafters in a flooded culvert. He believed in giving back and one of his wishes was to be an organ donor, which he accomplished. He will continue to help many people even after his passing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brent leaves behind his wife Emeline Burkett of Jamestown, his daughter Amber Burkett and her partner Tone Garcia of Las Vegas, NV, his son Brock and daughter-in-law Brynne Burkett of Jamestown, ND, his son Bryce Burkett of Portland OR, his three grandchildren Braxton, Brodin, and BrandiLyn of Jamestown, his siblings Bruce (Bev) Burkett of Bismarck, ND, Brenda Trudeau of Jamestown, and Brian (Deb) Burkett of Bismarck, ND, and his brother and sister-in law Frank (Alicia) Muth of Missoula, MT, Dennis (Linda) Muth of Missoula, MT, Cheryl (Ken) Grossman of Dickinson, ND, Aaron (Cathy) Muth of Seaside, CA, and his loving dogs Sid, Sophie, and Josie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was preceded in death by his brother Bryce Burkett, his parents Ed and Loretta Burkett, and his mother and father-in-law Frank and Emma Muth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prayer service will be at Eddy Funeral Home on Monday, June 15th at 7 pm. The funeral will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, June 16th at the Basilica of St. James. Lunch will follow. The burial will take place at the Dawson Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been set up at DonateLife in honor of Brent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
