Jamestown (Triumph Inc.) – Rya Gray, a Direct Support Professional with Triumph, Inc., has been awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action, a prestigious lifesaving honor presented to individuals who use their training and quick thinking to help save or sustain a life during an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gray received the award after her decisive actions during a medical emergency on March 11, 2026, while providing support to an individual in Triumph’s care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a nomination submitted by Direct Staff Supervisor Jody Larson, the individual began choking while eating a chicken burger and quickly showed signs of severe airway obstruction. Recognizing the emergency, Gray immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver. After four abdominal thrusts, the obstruction was successfully dislodged, allowing the individual to breathe normally again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larson praised Gray’s calm and professional response, noting that her actions directly prevented what could have been a life-threatening outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Rya’s response was prompt, decisive, and in full accordance with her training,” Larson wrote in the nomination. “Her actions directly prevented a potentially life-threatening outcome and demonstrated exceptional composure, awareness, and professionalism under emergency conditions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larson recommended Gray for the lifesaving award, stating that her actions exemplify Triumph, Inc.’s commitment to safety, preparedness, and providing high-quality care for the individuals they support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Red Cross Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action recognizes individuals who step forward during emergencies to use lifesaving skills and make a critical difference in someone’s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Triumph, Inc. celebrated Gray’s achievement, expressing gratitude for her compassion and professionalism during the emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
