Shirley (Bear) Linstaedt, 100, of Jamestown, ND passed away August 10th, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shirley Helen Bear, the daughter of Sebastian and Helen (Somsen) Bear, was born on June 4th, 1926 in Jamestown, ND. She grew up on a farm near Buchanan, ND.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were blessed to have Shirley with us for 100 years, recently celebrating her birthday with many friends and family. She was the steadfast foundation of our family and her loss is immeasurable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1944. An interesting bit of trivia she liked to share is that FDR was president while she was in 1st through12th grade. She then attended a year at Valley City Teacher\u2019s College obtaining a one-year First Class Elementary Teaching Certificate. She later wrote and passed the teacher\u2019s exam to obtain a three-year Second Class Elementary Teaching Certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She taught five years in rural, one room, country schools. In her last term of teaching, she boarded with the John Linstaedt family through whom she met John\u2019s brother Raymond. Shirley and Raymond married on December 2nd, 1949. After marrying, Shirley stayed home for several years to be a wife and mother. She later worked at Baker Boy Bakery, The Crippled Children\u2019s School, and TSC. In the 1970\u2019s she started working at Newman Signs where she worked until her retirement in 1991.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After marriage, Ray and Shirley lived briefly in Ypsilanti and later moved to Jamestown. In the mid 1970\u2019s they fulfilled a long-time dream by purchasing a home \u201cout in the country\u201d, south of Jamestown, where they enjoyed several years together. Her husband Raymond died in 1984. A few years after his passing, she moved to a home in Jamestown, later to assisted living, and finally to enjoy the dedicated care at Ave Maria nursing home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She enjoyed time with family, country music (especially the years when she and her sister-in-law Helen attended many concerts together), and playing cards every Monday with devoted nieces Vicki Soma and Valorie Bear and other dear friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was preceded in death by her cherished son Roy Alan Linstaedt, who died in an accident in 1960 at age ten, her beloved husband Raymond Linstaedt, and much -loved grandson Seth Linstaedt. She was also preceded in death by all of her eight siblings and several in laws: Robert Bear, James Bear and his wife Arlene, Mark Bear and his wife Helen, David Bear and his wife Lavonne, Doris Resinger and her husband John, Donald Bear and his wife Carol, Thomas Bear, and Polly Schmuhl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is survived by: Sons Keith Linstaedt (Marg Siegler), and Ray Linstaedt (Judi Weidner), daughters Janet (Ronnie)Kinzler, and Amy (Scott) Maurer, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Kay Bear and Judy Bear, and brother-in-law Edwin Schmuhl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funeral Service \u2013 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2026, at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with Pastor Lucinda Lien officiating, followed by a burial at Highland Home cemetery. A reception will follow at the Elks in Jamestown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorials may be made to SMP Health- Ave Maria, or JRMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
