VC (VNL) – A Valley City man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he threatened two family members with a hammer and damaged a vehicle during an argument last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shaunn Theodore Wieser, 20, was charged August 19 in Barnes County District Court with attempt to commit aggravated assault, two counts of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor criminal mischief. He made his initial court appearance August 20 and is due back in court September 10 for a preliminary hearing and arraignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the incident occurred August 10 at a residence in Valley City. Two family members told police they were helping Wieser unload a vehicle from a trailer when the vehicle rolled off the trailer and struck another vehicle belonging to Wieser after a 17-year-old family member attempted to stop it with a wood block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The affidavit states Wieser became angry, blamed the teen for the collision, picked up a hammer, and went after him. According to the affidavit, an adult family member stepped between them and grabbed Wieser\u2019s hand before he could strike the teen, who ran into the street out of fear. The affidavit states Wieser then turned toward the adult family member while still holding the hammer and threatened to \u201csmash\u201d his head in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adult family member told police he pushed Wieser back and told him to stop. Wieser then allegedly damaged a vehicle, striking it multiple times with the hammer, ripping off trim, and bending the driver\u2019s side door off its hinges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the affidavit, the adult family member initially declined to pursue charges but wanted the incident documented. He later told police he feared for his life during the encounter and referenced a previous, unrelated incident in which Wieser allegedly threatened him with a gun several years earlier. Court records show a restraining order related to that earlier incident had been lifted several months before this incident occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The affidavit also notes Wieser was on probation for a prior assault charge at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
