News Oct 21, 2013) \u2013 With the Jamestown sanitary sewer project, Interstate Engineering reports that starting Monday, a section of 7th Street SE, at the intersection of 13th Avenue SE, will close due to construction. 7th Street SE will close from WedgCor to the west side of the railroad tracks. News) On Saturday (Oct 19, 2013) , two lifts of asphalt were laid on 2nd St SW, from 3rd Ave SW to past 4th Ave SW, in front of Historic Franklin School.<\/p>\n<p>2nd Street SW has been closed for a month during installation of new sewer force main. A small portion of 2nd St east of the bridge remains unpaved, as additional work is needed. The portion from 3rd Ave SW to 4th Ave SW is expected to open as early as today. (Monday.)<\/p>\n<p>On Friday Oct 18, 2013 sections of steel pipe were being welded on 3rd Av SW in preparation to be installed under the Burlington Northern tracks.<\/p>\n<p>The nearly block long pipe will be placed under the tracks, and the new force main will be installed inside the steel casing. News) \u2013 The opening to traffic of 9th Avenue Northwest in Valley City, is now scheduled on or after October 23, 2013, postponed due to rain.<\/p>\n<p>The ribbon cutting ceremony with local and state officials is now tentatively set for Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1-p.m., weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p>The two phase project was origninally set for completion in September, but has been weather delayed, for the most part.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 21, 2013) \u2014 The Jamestown Regional Medical Center Foundation held North Dakota\u2019s first 3D Mammography event Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the JRMC Apple Basket Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>In attendance was North Dakota\u2019s first lady Betsy Dalrymple.<\/p>\n<p>JRMC is the first facility in North Dakota to offer 3D mammography for breast cancer screening. 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) helps radiologists identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue.<\/p>\n<p>Mammographer Dawn McCarty explained how the 3D mammography, machine works, using images from both the 2D and 3D machines as examples.<\/p>\n<p>She said, 40 percent more invasive breast cancer is found with the 3D machine, but the cancer is found in stage 0 \u2014 its earliest stage, adding that &#8220;Early detection does save lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>JRMC Foundation Director, Lisa Jackson said, in the three weeks that JRMC\u2019s 3D mammography machine has been in use, it has already detected one cancer.<\/p>\n<p>JRMC Medical Director of Imaging, Dr. Gary Wade, took questions from the audience about the new machine.<\/p>\n<p>Private 3D mammography tours, were given, with the Pink Ribbon Cutting at 11-a.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 21, 2013) &#8212; The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation (BCTF), Grant\/Executive Advisory Board met Friday at The CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School.<\/p>\n<p>Grant applications included:<\/p>\n<p>Advertising for Buffalo City Flyers in the amount of $1,000<\/p>\n<p>The parade train, for the Frontier Village in the amount of $5,000<\/p>\n<p>Advertising for an Ice Fishing Tournament $4,000 &amp; Fishing Personality Ted Takasocki for $3,000 for a total request of $7,000.<\/p>\n<p>The grant requested by the Frontier Village regarding the Parade Train was tabled, pending proof of ownership of the train, and paperwork regarding the Carlascio family transfer of the train. Also to be determined is, if the grant dollars will be used for a purchase, or for repairs to the train.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Syverson has made some repairs on the train, and is interested in making the donation. The train most recently was at Bonanzaville, and is in disrepair.<\/p>\n<p>At Friday\u2019s meeting, FVA President Charlie Tanata said the train would be in use during the summer at the Village, frequently, but not on an everyday basis.<\/p>\n<p>Toursim Board member, Beth Dewald also suggested varifying if the train is &#8220;street legal,&#8221; for operations on city streets.<\/p>\n<p>The consensus of the Board is that the tabling is to make sure all issues of the process of the Frontier Village taking ownership is clear, and that the board is excited with the prospect of having the train in regular use, for tourism purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The Board on Friday, approved the grant request of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department of $7,000 for the Ice Fishing Tournament in 2014. The Funds raised will go toward the purchase of a new fire truck for the Rural Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>Also approved was the request of $1,000 from the Buffalo City Radio Control Squadron for $1,000 for the upcoming Indoor Fun Fly, at the Jamestown Civic Center, on November 16, 2013. Spokesman Larry Gilje said, the dollars are earmarked for advertising, and lodging and meals for participants.<\/p>\n<p>The event includes radio controlled aircraft demonstrations and giving away an Ice Castle trailer, and other items.<\/p>\n<p>The board also learned that traffic on the tourism web site was down over 32 percent in September of 2013 from the month before.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 18, 2013) \u2013 The Jamestown Public School District will receive a $10,000 grant this year through America\u2019s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate its success, a check presentation will take place Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 before the middle school\u2019s fall band concert. A Monsanto representative and farmers in the community who nominated the school district will be attending the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, offers farmers the chance to nominate a local public school district, which can then compete for a grant of up to $25,000 to enhance math and\/or science education. More than 1,150 nominated school districts submitted applications. The Monsanto Fund will invest $2.3 million through America\u2019s Farmers Grow Rural Education grants this year.<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s Farmers Grow Rural Education helps farmers support math and science education in local rural school districts. Currently in its second year, this program is part of the Monsanto Fund\u2019s overall effort to support rural education and communities.<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s Farmers Grow Communities, which offers winning farmers the chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit organization in their county, is also part of this effort. To date, these programs combined have contributed more than $15 million to rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MEDINA, N.D. (AP Oct 19, 2013) \u2013 A primary health care clinic in Medina has shuttered. The decision to close the Health clinic came as a result of decreasing patient demand in Medina combined with increasing patient demand in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic had been open four hours a day, twice a month. Dr. Scott Rowe has been traveling from Essentia\u2019s clinic in Jamestown to see patients in Medina for more than 25 years. Rowe says he hopes to continue seeing patients from Medina at the newly constructed Essentia Health clinic in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police are urging residents to lock their doors. Police received two reports Saturday of a man entering women&#8217;s homes. Another man was spotted peeping in a window. The incidents follow other reports in Bismarck and in Mandan over the past three weeks of a man peeping in windows or entering homes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Twenty-nine North Dakota National Guard soldiers have been honored for their service at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Guard held a &#8220;Freedom Salute&#8221; ceremony Sunday at the Fargo Air Museum for members of the 191st Military Police Company. Gov. Jack Dalrymple was among those who spoke at the event.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The soldiers mobilized last October and arrived at the high-security prison at Guantanamo Bay a month later, joining a larger force there. (AP) &#8211; A send-off ceremony was held for 36 North Dakota Army National Guard soldiers bound for a year of duty in Kosovo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The guard says the ceremony for Company C, 2nd Battalion of the 285th Aviation Regiment was held Sunday morning at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Bismarck.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The soldiers will head to Fort Hood in Texas for final training and then serve overseas in support of the NATO-led international peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The unit served in Iraq in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LEITH, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say a white supremacist who moved to Leith two weeks ago was removed from a city council meeting by law enforcement officers. City councilman Lee Cook says Kynan Dutton was confrontational, profane and made racist comments at the meeting. Dutton and his wife said they were the first white supremacist settlers in a plan to take over the community and the town&#8217;s government.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Agriculture Department is offering a total of $75,000 in grants to fund research into honeybee health. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the state Legislature appropriated the money to counter increasingly serious bee diseases and parasites. The application deadline is December 2nd.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) &#8211; A seed dealer in the South Dakota city of Brookings is being sued by the North Dakota State University Research Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation claims that Jeff Muckey of Sexauer Discount Farm Services and others violated federal law by selling patented seed varieties without paying royalties. It seeks unspecified money damages.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit accuses Muckey of buying an oat variety called &#8220;Souris&#8221; from unnamed farmers and reselling it for planting without authorization from the foundation, which collects royalties on NDSU&#8217;s behalf. It also targets between one and 25 so-called &#8220;John Doe&#8221; defendants, who are accused of illegally selling the seed to Muckey.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Emerson, the Sioux Falls lawyer representing Muckey, declined to comment on the case to the Argus Leader newspaper<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Cass County commissioners are slated to consider a new morgue today. The county does not currently have a morgue.
