News Nov 1, 2013)\u00a0 &#8212;\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0A Former Valley City State student-athlete will be transported back to Minnesota within 14 days to face murder charges following an extradition held Friday.<\/p>\n<p>21-year-old Cedric Chappell Jr was charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of a man and attempted murder after he allegedly wounded another man in Minneapolis shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Chappell is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Willie Smith of St. Paul outside a Minneapolis restaurant and bar.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal complaint says a fight started inside the bar, spilled out into the parking lot and two groups started shooting at each other.<\/p>\n<p>Chappell was arrested Tuesday, October 1, 2013 on campus at Valley City State University.<\/p>\n<p>Chappell, did not waive his extradition back to Minnesota following the bond hearing in Valley City, Judge John Paulson set Chappell\u2019s bail at one million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Reported previously&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>VALLEY CITY, N.D. News,\u00a0Oct 2, 2013) \u2013 A North Dakota college football player who was a standout athlete at a Minnesota high school has been charged with fatally shooting a man outside a Minneapolis bar over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Cedric Chappell Jr. was arrested Tuesday at Valley City State University. He is charged in Hennepin County, Minn. with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He\u2019s being held in the Barnes County jail.<\/p>\n<p>The Minneapolis Police Department contacted the Valley City Police Department last weekend to seek assistance in investigating the case. Minneapolis police got an arrest warrant for one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two-year-old Willie Smith, of St. Paul, was fatally shot outside the Blue Nile restaurant and bar about 2 a.m. Saturday. Another man was shot in the leg.<\/p>\n<p>A criminal complaint says a fight started inside the bar, spilled out into the parking lot and two groups started shooting at each other.<\/p>\n<p>Chappell was a standout athlete at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p>The VCPD, was assisted by the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office and the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force, who able to locate Chappell, on the VCSU campus where he was taken into custody without incident.<\/p>\n<p>VCSU spokesman Greg Vanney, says Chappell has been suspended from the university adding that VCSU officials are cooperating with police in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information on the case should call the Valley City Police Department at 701-845-3110.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V..
