(AP) &#8211; North Dakota is in for a bit of a chill before the weather warms later in the week.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The National Weather Service says temperatures overnight into Tuesday morning are expected to range from the single digits above zero in the southwest to the single digits below zero in the northeast. And the wind could make it feel as cold as 20 below zero in north central and northeastern North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A warm-up is in store, though. High temperatures statewide are forecast to be in the 30s and 40s on Tuesday and in the 40s and 50s on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kathryn (CSi) &#8212; The Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports a traffic and a farm accident that occurred over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>30 year old Karl Helland was injured operating a baler near Kathryn Saturday about 8:30-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>His hand and part of his arm were pinned between two steel rollers.<\/p>\n<p>He was extricated from the baler and taken to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for treatment of injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the scene to assists the Sheriff\u2019s Office, were Barnes County Rescue, Barnes County Ambulance, Kathryn First Responders, along with Litchville, and Hasting Fire Departments.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday morning about 7-O\u2019Clock a 19-year-old Valley City man was injured when he lost control and rolled his Dodge Durango into a ditch northwest of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>He was cited for Care Required.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carrington (CSi)\u00a0\u00a0 Officials in \u00a0Foster County announced that\u00a0the county now \u00a0has\u00a0 a reverse 911 system for county residents.<\/p>\n<p>Reverse 911 system uses a database of telephone numbers and associated addresses that can be used to deliver recorded emergency notifications to a selected set of telephone service subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Foster County Emergency Manager, \u00a0Teresa Risovi,\u00a0says the service will be used in the event of an emergency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The system is already being used for the Lake Juanita area in the event of severe weather, Carrington Public Works\u00a0 for water main breaks and the Carrington Fire Department uses\u00a0revers 9-1-1 \u00a0as a supplemental paging system.<\/p>\n<p>The system was established by Global Connect, which was bought out by CodeRED, which is also operational in the area in Stutsman and Barnes Counties.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; Officials at the University of Minnesota have lifted a warning for students to take shelter after man with a gun tried to rob a student on campus.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 University police say the armed man tried to rob a student of her laptop in Anderson Hall on the West Bank of the Minneapolis campus Monday before fleeing into the tunnel system between buildings.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Star Tribune reports police say the gun was not fired.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After the attempted robbery, the university sent a text alert at 3:20 p.m. Monday warning students on the West Bank to stay in a safe place. The alert was lifted about an hour later.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A university Tweet says police believe the suspect has left campus. All regular classes and activities will continue as planned.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; State wildlife officials say there is no way to know for sure whether a mountain lion that was shot and killed south of Bismarck is the same one that was spotted near an elementary school in the area.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A deer hunter killed the 85-pound female lion on Friday. Tom Doering\u00a0says \u00a0he had seen reports of a lion causing a scare for Prairie Rose Elementary School, and had it on his mind that he might encounter a big cat.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Game and Fish Department Enforcement Chief Bob Timian tells The Bismarck Tribune it seems likely the lion is the one spotted near the school, but that it&#8217;s impossible to say for certain.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Students at the school were kept indoors at times last week as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The federal government has given the city of Minot approval to spend about $20 million in flood recovery grant money.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved the city&#8217;s plan for spending the money, which is part of a $35 million grant award announced earlier.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The city devastated by Souris River flooding in June 2011 is planning to use the money for property buyouts, road repairs and to help homeowners with repair expenses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state also has received permission to spend part of a $6.6 million federal grant. The state proposes to provide $3.2 million to a developer for housing for low- and moderate-income residents in Minot.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 2011 flood damaged or destroyed more than 4,000 homes, businesses and other structures in North Dakota&#8217; fourth-largest city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The best curling teams from around the country are in North Dakota competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic teams.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first stones were thrown Sunday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo. The trials run through this coming weekend.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five men&#8217;s teams and four women&#8217;s teams are competing. The top teams will go to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in February.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s not the first time Fargo has hosted a top curling event. The USA Curling National Championships were held in Scheels Arena in February 2011.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In world and national news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) &#8211; The relief effort in the Philippines has barely begun. As many as 10,000 people &#8212; and perhaps more &#8212; are dead as a result of the typhoon that struck on Friday. Philippine soldiers have been distributing food and water in the city of Tacloban (tahk-LOH&#8217;-bahn), and teams from the United Nations and other international agencies have been seen there for the first time. Bodies of victims still haven&#8217;t been removed from the streets.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) &#8211; Desperate survivors of the Philippine typhoon have stripped malls, shops and homes of food, water and consumer goods. Officials say looters have also taken non-essential items such as TVs, refrigerators, Christmas trees and a treadmill. Police and soldiers have been patrolling the downtown area of Tacloban (tahk-LOH&#8217;-bahn) to guard against further chaos.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HOUSTON (AP) &#8211; A sheriff had said that the shooting that left two teenagers dead at a house party in suburban Houston began with celebratory gunfire &#8212; but now, court documents indicate that wasn&#8217;t the case. Affidavits involving two suspects who were arrested Monday say individuals who were at the party told investigators that the two suspects began firing at them before shooting into the crowd. In addition to the two people killed, 19 others were hurt.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) &#8211; An Ohio child killer scheduled for execution in two days has asked that his organs be donated to help his mother and sister. Lawyers for death row inmate Ronald Phillips say in a letter to the Ohio prisons agency that Phillips would also be willing to donate the organs to other individuals. The letter says Philips wants as many people as possible to benefit from his death.\u00a0 Phillips faces execution Thursday by a two-drug combination of a sedative and painkiller. It&#8217;s never been used before in an execution. He was sentenced to die for raping and killing his girlfriend&#8217;s three-year-old daughter.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) &#8211; Sheriff&#8217;s officials say the animal that killed an employee this weekend at an Oregon animal sanctuary was a cougar, and an autopsy shows the woman died of multiple bite wounds. Renee Radziwon died Saturday night inside an enclosure at WildCat Haven in Sherwood.
