Jamestown (CSi) The Main Street Downtown Jamestown Association announces that this year\u2019s Holiday Dazzle Parade will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 the day after Thanksgiving which is the traditional start of the Holiday Season.<\/p>\n

This year, the parade will start at 7 p.m. and originate at the south end of McElroy Park and travel north to 8th St. S.E. and then west to First Avenue and going north to Third Street North.<\/p>\n

Main Street Downtown President Nancy Miller said that last year there were over 40 entries in the parade which was watched by several thousand people.<\/p>\n

Parade entries will compete for trophies in four categories:<\/p>\n

Best Dazzle<\/p>\n

Most Original Theme<\/p>\n

Most Outstanding<\/p>\n

Amateur Built<\/p>\n

Most Outstanding Civic or Non-profit.<\/p>\n

Floats will be judged for motion, lights, creativity, originality of theme, holiday spirit and music.<\/p>\n

Judges will select the winners at 6:30 p.m. at the gathering area in McElroy Park and awarded at the after parade party at the Gladstone Inn with songs by the Jamestown Choralaires and refreshments and cookies courtesy of Shady\u2019s and the Main Street Downtown Association.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Main Street Downtown Association will again be in charge of the City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Wednesday Nov. 27, 2013 at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/p>\n

The lighting ceremony will start at 5:15 p.m. with Christmas carols and songs, a history of the tree and a Christmas message by Deacon Tom Geffre, chaplain at Ave Maria Village.<\/p>\n

Coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider will be served along with cookies, courtesy of the Main Street Downtown Association.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s tree was selected from the home located at 2015 \u2013 5th<\/sup> St. N.E. by City Forester Doug Wiles and is over 40 feet tall.<\/p>\n

This is truly a city project, with the tree cutting and trimming done by the city street department crew, the moving by Scherbenske and Son and the tree lights and decorations done by the Jamestown Fire Department.<\/p>\n

\u3000ABERCROMBIE, N.D. (AP) – Fire has destroyed the office and drive-thru garage of a privately owned grain elevator in the southeastern North Dakota town of Abercrombie.

\n\u00a0Several large steel grain bins also were damaged in the early morning blaze Tuesday. All but one of the bins was empty.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eight area fire departments responded to the blaze. There was no immediate word on a possible cause.<\/p>\n

\u00a0AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho (AP) – The Idaho State Police made three major drug busts on Interstate 86 near American Falls in southern Idaho over the weekend that led to five arrests, the seizure of over 65 pounds of marijuana and just over $9,000 in cash.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All those arrested face felony charges of trafficking and possession of marijuana.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On Friday afternoon, Shirley Scherr and Michael Curt, both 50 and from Bismarck, N.D., were arrested. Officers seized just over 13 pounds of marijuana and nearly $7,300 in cash.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Early Sunday afternoon, 22-year-old Mario Rodriguez of Pocatello was arrested and officers seized nearly 14 pounds of marijuana and $736.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On Monday morning, 37-year-old Danny Goddard of Valley Springs, Calif., and 38-year-old Richard Royal of Linden, Calif., were arrested. Officers seized 38.7 pounds of marijuana and just over $1,000 in cash.

\u00a0\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Health Department says another eight people from the Minot area are infected with hepatitis C, and it’s still looking for the source of the outbreak.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Daniel Greatwalker Sr., of Belcourt, was convicted in 2002 of killing Linus Wallette, whose body was found in a wooded area near Belcourt. Wallette was beaten with a pickax, knife and hammer.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Federal prosecutors say Greatwalker’s son, 23-year-old Daniel Greatwalker Jr., of Belcourt, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and altering, destroying or concealing a tangible object in a federal investigation.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He killed 21-year-old Perry Picotte by striking and stabbing him, then disposed of the knife, washed his clothes and burned his shoes.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tesoro Corp. earlier did testing and found no contamination. State Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt says state officials are taking their own samples to verify Tesoro’s findings.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The pipeline rupture discovered in September sent oil across a wheat field. Tesoro is working on cleanup, and Glatt says about 5,000 barrels of oil have been recovered. He says most of the rest will have to be baked out of the soil, and the soil renewed and replaced. He says that could take a couple of years.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Glatt says Tesoro is doing more soil boring as part of the cleanup, but he doesn’t expect the spill size estimate to change much.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A judge says a Fargo group serving as public sponsor of a planned Red River diversion can help defend the project in a federal lawsuit.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The suit filed by the Richland-Wilkin Joint Powers Authority accuses the Army Corps of Engineers of planning a project that is overpriced and will damage farmland. The group says the diversion shouldn’t move forward until further review of possible environmental impacts.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Magistrate Leo Brisbois ruled last week in favor of a request by the Red River Diversion Authority to join as a defendant in the suit. The authority is made up of city and county officials from the Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., area.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diversion supporters say long-term protection is needed for residents who have had major flooding in four of the last five years.<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minneapolis City Council has approved an agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx to renovate the Target Center, one of the NBA’s oldest venues.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The $97 million renovation of the 23-year-old, city-owned Target Center includes a redesign of the outdated exterior, additional clubs and gathering spaces, as well as improved traffic flow.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Timberwolves and Lynx will pay $43 million toward the project. The city will contribute $48.5 million and building manager Anschutz Entertainment Group Facilities will pay $5.5 million. As part of the deal, the Timberwolves will extend their lease at Target Center through 2032.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The design of the building will take place this winter, with construction expected to begin after the 2013-14 Timberwolves season.

Carney noted that USAID and the U.S. military are providing relief on the ground, and that the aircraft carrier USS George Washington and several escort ships are on their way to provide emergency services.
