Jamestown, (CSi) \u2013 The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called to a shop fire in rural southeast Jamestown about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, two miles east of Hillcrest Golf Course.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports a shop on the property was fully engulfed in flames when the units arrived.<\/p>\n

The shop\u2019s owner Jim Madsen says no one was home when the fire started.<\/p>\n

Otter Tail Power Co. was on scene to cut off electricity to the property, and Montana-Dakota Utilities was there to cut off the gas.<\/p>\n

Rural Fire Chief Rick Woehl says firefighters were on the scene for about two and a half hours.<\/p>\n

The shop was destroyed.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Jamestown Rural Fire Department, with the estimated damage to the shop at about $50,000, not including the value of the contents.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol and Jamestown Police Department were also at the scene.<\/p>\n

Then 10 minutes after firefighters arrived at the shop fire scene, they were called to another fire, a small grass fire on Interstate 94, near the Spiritwood exit.<\/p>\n

The Rural Fire Department sent two pickups to the second scene, and the grass fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported a rollover accident that occurred just after 9-a.m., Wednesday on I-94, at mile marker 240 between Cleveland and Windsor.<\/p>\n

33 year old Katey Richter-Kappenman of Bismarck was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound at approximately 75 miles per hour on frost-covered roads. The driver crossed an overpass and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the median, rolled and continued sliding across both eastbound lanes, coming to rest in the south ditch.<\/p>\n

She was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

Her passengers a three year old boy, and two year old girl also of Bismarck were not injured. The children were secured in car seats.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Ambulance Service responded to the call.<\/p>\n

The frost-covered roads were a factor in two additional property crashes this morning on I-94. Drivers are encouraged to continue to buckle up, slow down and remove cruise control as the winter driving season begins.<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN (AP, CSi) – Jamestown’s police chief says authorities plan terrorizing charges against a student who allegedly made threats that led to a brief lockdown of the University of Jamestown campus last week.<\/p>\n

Chief Scott Edinger says the student is being evaluated at the state mental hospital. No charges will be filed until that is complete.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old student from California allegedly threatened to kill three students and drink their blood as part of a satanic ritual. The alleged threats last Thursday led to a half-hour lockdown of the campus while authorities searched for the student.<\/p>\n

The student’s father tells The Jamestown Sun that his son was just joking around, and that his son has been expelled over the misunderstanding.<\/p>\n

While in Jamestown, Ronald Flores has been in contact with Jamestown police and UJ officials.<\/p>\n

The school won’t confirm that because of privacy rules.<\/p>\n

The Flores\u2019 are from Thousand Oaks, Calif., an outer suburb of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Ronald Flores said Tuesday, “We just kid around. It\u2019s like a punk thing. It\u2019s like a goth thing. It\u2019s just a thing in Los Angeles.”<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (CSi) — Valley City police reports, a second suspect has been arrested in connection with one of several late September Valley City church burglaries.<\/p>\n

25 year old Andrew Miklas of Valley City was detained near Hillsboro on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Miklas is being held at Cass County Jail, charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary in Barnes County and possession of stolen property in Traill County. All charges are Class C felonies.<\/p>\n

Miklas will be sent to Traill County first, then to Barnes County.<\/p>\n

Miklas\u2019 original arrest warrant from Valley City police was for charges of burglary, which is a felony, and theft of property, a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

Valley City police issued arrest warrants October 30th, for Miklas and 18 year old Nicole Lindermann, of Kathryn, in connection with a burglary at Faith Lutheran Church, in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Lindermann turned herself in October 30, 2013 and was released from the Barnes County Jail on a $4,000 unsecured appearance bond.<\/p>\n

Miklas and Linderman were arrested Thursday night, after Hillsboro Police received a call about two suspicious people staying at the Hillsboro Inn. The vehicle the people had arrived in was stolen out of Hannaford and matched the description of a vehicle used in a burglary in Aneta.<\/p>\n

A second vehicle was found stolen out of Casselton.<\/p>\n

Miklas and Lindermann were arrested for possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and outstanding warrants for burglary.<\/p>\n

Lindermann is being held in the Cass County Jail, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.<\/p>\n

Miklas is being held at the Cass County Jail on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit burglary in Barnes County and possession of stolen property in Traill County, Class C felonies,<\/p>\n

A series of church burglaries happened during the weekend of September 28 and 29 this year. Trinity Lutheran Church, Our Savior\u2019s Lutheran Church and the Congregational Church of Christ were burglarized that weekend, along with Faith Lutheran. The Valley City Public Library was also burglarized that weekend.<\/p>\n

Valley City police have said the church burglaries appear to be related, based on observations at the scenes.<\/p>\n

It is unclear if the church burglaries are related to an arson fire at Faith Lutheran Church Oct. 21. The fire caused about $2.2 million in damage and is under investigation by Valley City police and state and federal investigators.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Public Service Commission has approved a $350 million, 200 megawatt wind farm in the southeastern part of the state.<\/p>\n

The PSC approved Geronimo Energy’s Courtenay Wind Farm on Wednesday. The commission’s action came after the company agreed to delete nine of the proposed 136 turbines from its plan after safety concerns were brought up by owners of a nearby crop-spraying business, at public hearing on the project July 12 in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The crop sprayers worried that the turbines were too close to their private runway in Stutsman County.<\/p>\n

The entire project covers about 21,000 acres, or about 33 square miles. Developers hope to begin construction later this year, with completion done by late 2014.<\/p>\n

Xcel Energy Inc. has agreed to purchase all power produced from the wind farm.<\/p>\n

Cooperstown (CSi) — Authorities are investigating the shooting of a horse south of Cooperstown that occurred on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The owner, Kim Damsgard found her horse, “Buckskin,” lying half frozen in a pond shot through the neck.<\/p>\n

A Cass County Sheriff’s Department detective is investigating the shooting, and a separate open case of three or four cattle that were reported shot within the past month in Cass County<\/p>\n

Damsgard says a hunter may have mistaken the buckskin-colored horse for a deer.<\/p>\n

Investigators plan to take a metal detector to the area today to see if they can recover a slug.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) \u2014 VCSU is hosting “Tuskegee Airmen,” historian, Ron Spriggs, with his presentation of the “Legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen,”<\/p>\n

The program is Thursday (Nov 14, 2013) from 4-p.m., to 5:30-p.m., at Froemke Auditorium inside Foss Music Hall.<\/p>\n

A segregated unit, The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American pilots in World War II, ttrained at the Tuskegee Institute, a historically black college in Tuskegee, Alabama.<\/p>\n

Ron Spriggs is an oral historian, lecturer and curator of the Tuskegee Airmen exhibit.<\/p>\n

Spriggs founded the Ron Spriggs Exhibit of Tuskegee Airmen in December 2002 as an independent means of telling the history and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.<\/p>\n

\u00a0NOONAN, N.D. (AP) – The Highway Patrol has released the names of two men killed when a pickup and delivery truck collided in northwestern North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It happened late Tuesday afternoon on state Highway 5 about 3 miles west of Noonan.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say 43-year-old Brent McCollum, of Crosby, was driving home when his pickup crossed the center line and struck the tractor-trailer head-on. Thirty-year-old Barry Morris, of Williston, was driving the Freightliner.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Both drivers died at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo man suspected of dealing large quantities of methamphetamine is facing a federal complaint. Court documents say Brian Anderson was arrested in July after selling four grams of meth to an informant for $800. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 26th.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say defense attorneys for a man sentenced to death for killing a University of North Dakota student were “zealous advocates” for their client who grilled witnesses and sought to exclude numerous pieces of evidence.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 417-page document filed Wednesday is a response to what is considered the final appeal for Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., convicted for kidnapping and killing Dru Sjodin (shuh-DEEN’), of Pequot Lakes, Minn., in 2003. Rodriguez sits on death row in Indiana.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rodriguez’s appeal claims, among other things, that he is mentally disabled and his lawyers did a poor job of defending him. The appeal asks that the sentence be thrown out or amended.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. attorneys say the verdict “speaks to the strength of the prosecution’s case, rather than a failure of the defense team.”<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man whose murder conspiracy conviction was overturned by the North Dakota Supreme Court has been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison on a murder charge.<\/p>\n

The Bismarck Tribune reports (http:\/\/bit.ly\/187rx7Z ) that 31-year-old Richard Whitman was charged, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Wednesday, in a streamlined hearing.<\/p>\n

A jury in June 2012 convicted Whitman and Cody Borner of conspiracy to commit murder in the January 2012 shooting death in Beulah of Mike Padilla, of Billings, Mont. Padilla’s brother, Timothy, was wounded in the shooting that authorities say resulted from a drug-fueled dispute.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court overturned the convictions because of improper charging documents but said the men could be charged again. Borner faces a Nov. 27 preliminary hearing on new charges of terrorizing, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – No one was hurt when a drunken driving suspect rammed a Fargo police officer’s squad car.<\/p>\n

The incident happened early Thursday during a traffic stop. As the officer questioned the driver, the driver sped off and slammed into the unoccupied police car, damaging the left rear side.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old Fargo man was arrested on nearly a dozen charges. Police say he had been cruising through his ex-girlfriend’s neighborhood, squealing his tires and playing loud music.<\/p>\n

(AP) – Federal health officials vowed that the new federally-run online health exchanges would improve, after releasing a report showing applicants had little success in enrolling for new plans in the exchanges’ first month. The report released yesterday showed that just 42 of the 969 completed applications from North Dakota were successful.<\/p>\n
