Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 4, 2012) — The community is invited to celebrate the 50th<\/sup> Anniversary of (Eventide) at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

On the Labor Day edition of the Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Administrator, Doug Panchot said the Hi-Acres 50th<\/sup> Anniversary, Community Picnic is Thursday September 6, 2012, from 4-p.m., to 7-p.m., at Hi-Acres at 1300 2nd<\/sup> Place, Northeast, in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

He added that there will be food and music, including the Spiritwood Creek Band, along with inflatable games.<\/p>\n

Panchot said Eventide purchase Hi-Acres from the Rife family in 2010.<\/p>\n

Administrator, Gary Rife stayed on board for a year assisting with the transition.<\/p>\n

Panchot has been the Hi-Acres Administrator for about year.<\/p>\n

He added that Hi-Acres Strategic plan for the future includes a renovation and remodeling of the facility, to keep up with changing health care needs in the community.<\/p>\n

He said plans include to eventually have two-thirds of Hi-Acres having private rooms.<\/p>\n

The renovations are planned to start this fall.<\/p>\n

Eventually Eventide is looking to expand the building as well, and provide additional parking.<\/p>\n

Eventide also has facilities in Moorhead, Minnesota, and West Fargo, North Dakota.<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) The State Historical Society of North Dakota will make repairs to the historic Stutsman County Courthouse following an inspection that identified moisture as the building\u2019s primary problem.<\/p>\n

The society owns the historic 1883 building and received $60,000 in June from the state\u2019s Emergency Commission in to begin interior repairs.<\/p>\n

Director of Archaeology and Historic Preservation Division Fern Swenson says repairs already underway will help with the problem, but the workers also need to get some dehumidifiers in the basement.<\/p>\n

The emergency funds came after Stutsman County officials voiced concern about the old courthouse\u2019s remaining connections with the new courthouse. A study from an environmental consultant showed that the old courthouse has mold, but it had not gotten into the new building.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Police are investigating a robbery at a
\nDickinson fast-food restaurant.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The robbery occurred at a KFC at about 8 a.m. on Monday.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officer Brandon Stockie says there were no weapons used. He says
\nthe suspect is believed to have gotten away with an undisclosed
\namount of money.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A representative at KFC declined comment.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A 17-year-old Fargo girl has been treated for
\nsmoke inhalation after escaping a mobile home fire.<\/p>\n

Fargo Assistant Fire Chief Larry Schuh tells the Forum that the girl woke up to the smell of smoke Saturday night and escaped through the bedroom
\nwindow.<\/p>\n

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0Undated\u00a0 (KCSi-T.V. News)\u00a0 —\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of a Harvey, man killed Sunday morning in a rollover crash in Wells County.<\/p>\n

The patrol says 34 year olf Jason Thomas, of Harvey, was driving northbound on N.D. Highway 30 at 6:50 a.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n

Five miles south of Hamberg, , the car drifted east off the road.<\/p>\n

Thomas overcorrected and lost control.<\/p>\n

The car turned, entered the east ditch, hit an approach and vaulted.<\/p>\n

The car rolled an undetermined number of times, ejecting Thomas, and came to rest on its hood.<\/p>\n

Thomas was taken by ambulance to Harvey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

He had not been wearing a seat belt.<\/p>\n

The car was totaled.<\/p>\n

The crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot police say a hotel employee suffered minor injuries early yesterday after confronting a man who was trying to break into cars in the parking lot.<\/p>\n

Police responded to the reported stabbing at the hotel on North Broadway just before 5 a.m.<\/p>\n

They say the 26-year-old employee suffered minor injuries from a sharp object used by the suspect.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A Williston man has been sentenced to
\nfive years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

19-year-old Kristopher Caples pleaded guilty to gross sexual
\nimposition in March.<\/p>\n

He appeared last week in Northwest District
\nCourt in Williston and was given credit for nearly a year he
\nalready has served in jail while awaiting sentencing.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Authorities say the crime occurred in Oct. 2011.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man convicted in a Fargo murder-for-hire
\nplot says statements he made to police should have been excluded
\nfrom his trial.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Supreme Court is scheduled to take up Gene
\nKirkpatrick’s appeal Tuesday.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kirkpatrick was convicted last July of hiring a hit man to kill
\nhis son-in-law, Fargo dentist Philip Gattuso (gah-TOO’-soh).
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Kirkpatrick wanted to take his granddaughter
\nfrom Gattuso after Kirkpatrick’s daughter died.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kirkpatrick is serving a life prison term for conspiracy to
\ncommit murder and burglary.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kirkpatrick told police he talked to a man about what it would
\ntake to kill Gattuso. But he said there was never an agreement.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kirkpatrick’s lawyer says the statements shouldn’t have been
\nused during the trial because Kirkpatrick was hungry and tired.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota regulators say changes may be coming in state rules that require excavators to check the locations of underground pipes.<\/p>\n

Contractors who are getting ready to dig trenches are supposed to use a state “one call” service.<\/p>\n

It helps put excavators in touch with pipeline companies and other utilities to make sure the digging doesn’t hit buried equipment.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A new survey says 60 percent of longtime
\nnorthwest North Dakota residents say they have benefited
\neconomically from the oil boom but the majority say their quality
\nof life has not improved.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The University of North Dakota study gathered perceptions of the oil boom by sending surveys to residents of Williston, Stanley and Watford City
\nwho have lived in their communities for six years or more.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 17 percent said the oil boom has improved their quality of
\nlife. Fifty-two percent said they disagree or strongly disagree.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The survey project also asked for written comments from
\nrespondents. Many participants wrote that the state should limit
\nthe number of drilling permits to allow communities to catch up
\nwith housing, law enforcement and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger
\nsays he’s finished his review of five measures that voters want to
\nput on the November ballot.<\/p>\n

Jaeger says he’ll announce today how
\nmany of the initiatives will qualify for the election. One proposal
\nwould ban smoking in public workplaces, while another would make it
\nlegal to grow and use marijuana as a medicine.<\/p>\n
