The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has updated the Travel Alert <\/b>to only include areas in extreme northeastern North Dakota including the cities of Grafton, Drayton, Pembina and surrounding areas. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel, <\/b>but should be cautious of winds causing blowing snow and reduced visibility along with scattered snow drifts.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling. \u00a0For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the website: www.dot.nd.gov<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

NDDOT releases information to inform the public about travel conditions throughout the state. The three categories are as follows:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

TRAVEL ALERT<\/b> \u2013 Motorists can still travel but may encounter areas of challenging winter weather driving conditions on roadways. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination and be alert to conditions that may make travel difficult, change rapidly, or cause travel delays. A TRAVEL ALERT has the potential to change to a NO TRAVEL ADVISED if conditions deteriorate.<\/p>\n

NO TRAVEL ADVISED<\/b> \u2013 Motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may make it unsafe to travel.\u00a0Snowplows may be pulled from the roads during severe conditions. Motorists should take NO TRAVEL ADVISED seriously as those motorists who choose to travel at their own risk may become stranded and emergency responders may not be able to reach them safely. A NO TRAVEL ADVISED has the potential to change to a ROAD CLOSED OR BLOCKED if conditions deteriorate.<\/p>\n

ROAD CLOSED OR BLOCKED<\/b> \u2013 Motorists are not allowed to travel on a closed road due to life threatening conditions.\u00a0The road may be impassible or blocked.\u00a0Motorists who drive past a road closure device may be fined up to $250.<\/p>\n

Please be advised that road condition information on 511 and the travel map is updated daily from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. CDT. The road report is based upon the information available to the NDDOT at the time of preparation and is provided solely as a public service. Conditions may vary from those reported.<\/p>\n

If you become stranded, motorists should stay with their vehicle and call 911 for emergency assistance<\/p>\n

\u00a0Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown street crews yesterday were removing snow from the Energency Snow Routes and started grading residential streets.\u00a0 Late last night the crews cleared snow from the downtown streets.Residential snow removal will continue until finished.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) In conjunction with the Jamestown sanitary sewer project, construction crews have filled in the remaining open trench on 3rd Av SW. 3rd Av SW is open, from 2nd St SW, north to 1st St.<\/p>\n

The intersection at 1st St & 3rd Av SW is now open. The 2nd St SW bridge remains closed, use the detour to 1st Street.<\/p>\n

Motorists can now enter & exit Historic Franklin School parking lot and drive-up payment box normally.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) \u2014 Officials with Pizza Ranch have announced a new restaurant is planned to open in Valley City.<\/p>\n

The new Valley City Pizza Ranch is tentatively set to open in April of 2014 on the site of the current Roby\u2019s Restaurant.<\/p>\n

The site will have demolition planned to start in January, 2014, followed by the new Pizza Ranch building.<\/p>\n

Bergan Enterprises CEO Bob Bergan says the owner of Roby\u2019s Restaurant sold the property, and Director of Operations Tom Bergan says there will be a large selection of menu items.<\/p>\n

Bergan\u2019s Enterprises also owns the City Lights Supper Club and Taco Johns Restaurant in Valley City.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – The nonprofit Farm Rescue organization has wrapped up its year after helping 50 families.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota-based nonprofit provides planting and harvesting help free of charge to farm families in the region stricken by a major illness, injury or disaster.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Since 2006, Farm Rescue has helped more than 250 farm families in the Dakotas, Montana, Minnesota and Iowa. The 50 families helped this year was the organization’s highest annual total to date.<\/p>\n

\u00a0OAKES, N.D. (AP) – A report by Oakes school district officials say the district’s longtime high school principal resigned after entering the home of a student on two occasions without permission.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The report obtained by KFGO radio shows that Don Warren was first found by the student’s father in the kitchen of their home. Warren said he was looking for the student in connection with an unexcused absence.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Warren returned to the home a week later after the student failed to appear for after-school detention. He allegedly took the backpacks of two students who were in another part of the house.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The report also accuses Warren of telling one student he was going to “drop him like a bad habit.”
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Warren resigned last week. A message left at his home was not returned.<\/p>\n

Kensal (CSi) — Spontaneous ignition, was the likely cause of a grain bin fire on Tuesday at the Kensal Farmers Elevator.<\/p>\n

The extremely hot fire was in sunflower screeenings. The fire was called in about 8 a.m. Tuesday and was completely extinguished about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Kensal Fire Chief Dave Kramer says the fire was located inside the cribbing, consisting of two inch thick boards, forming the wall of the grain bin.<\/p>\n

Kensal Farmers Elevator, Manager, Miles Armstrong says the damage was minimal, with no structural damage.<\/p>\n

Firefighters from Kensal, Pingree, Carrington, the Jamestown Rural Fire department were called to the scene. Jamestown providing additional water.<\/p>\n

The water tower serving Kensal has a 50,000-gallon capacity but contained less than 20,000 gallons at the time of the fire.<\/p>\n

On scene, the firefighters received assistance from the Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter from Jamestown.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Some organizations in the Dakotas are canceling holiday events as bitter cold settles over the region.<\/p>\n

The Valley City Parade of Lights, and Christmas tree lighting set for Friday evening have been cancelled.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A “Christmas at the Zoo” fundraising event in the North Dakota city of Minot and “Parade of Lights” events in the South Dakota cities of Yankton and Sturgis are among those being called off.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The National Weather Service has posted advisories in the two states for wind chills as low as 40 degrees below zero. Temperatures that cold can quickly freeze exposed skin and cause hypothermia.

\n\u00a0

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. -The extreme cold slamming the Great Plains isn’t about to cool off North Dakota’s oil patch. Workers know they have to keep rigs operating. One way they stay safe is by taking timeouts in small heated buildings near rigs. Craig Hovet, who is working well maintenance in the middle of the patch, jokes that the prospect of subzero temperatures “keeps out the riffraff.”

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Health Department has launched a website that allows the public to monitor oil spills and other hazardous leaks reported in the state. The new website comes after a massive spill from a Tesoro Corp. pipeline that was discovered by a farmer in September. Officials say the website will provide information on spills and their potential environmental impacts.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Regulators say a Texas company has completed cleanup of a 714,000-gallon saltwater spill on the Montana-North Dakota border. Plano, Texas-based Denbury Onshore reported the spill from a 4-inch plastic pipeline in southeast Montana on November 25th.\u00a0 The North Dakota Health Department says the briny water reached the Big Gumbo Creek near Marmarth, in southwest North Dakota.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A January 6th hearing has been scheduled at the Cass County Courthouse in Fargo on a proposed settlement in the case of a failed seed company.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mentor, Minnesota-based Anderson Seed shut down its sunflower processing facility in Redfield, South Dakota in 2012 without paying farmers for millions of dollars’ worth of delivered seeds.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota’s Public Service Commission late last month approved a proposed settlement in which farmers with cash claims will get about 43 percent of what they are owed and those with credit sale claims will get about 80 percent.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Starke says it doesn’t matter if Zaun thought the house was empty. She says he broke the law and the incident has caused her emotional distress. Starke says Zaun was charged with criminal mischief.

\u00a0EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) – Matt Cassel is on track to start this week at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, with Christian Ponder recovering from a concussion. Coach Leslie Frazier said Wednesday that Cassel “more than likely” will start when the Vikings play at Baltimore on Sunday. Cassel took over when Ponder was hit in the head during Sunday’s game against the Bears.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) – The Baltimore Ravens most formidable offensive threat is kicker Justin Tucker. Baltimore won its last two games because Tucker kicked nine field goals – four in a win over the New York Jets and five more on Thanksgiving in a victory over Pittsburgh. Tucker hopes to extend his streak on Sunday, when the Ravens take on Minnesota.

The league said it would consider docking Pittsburgh a draft pick “because the conduct affected a play on the field.” The NFL also said Tomlin should have been flagged 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for nearly colliding with Baltimore’s Jacoby Jones during a kickoff return midway through the third quarter of a 22-20 Ravens victory.<\/p>\n

Nathan went 9-7 with 80 saves and a 2.09 ERA in two seasons with the Rangers before becoming a free agent last month. He addresses a pressing need for the Tigers, who won the AL Central at 93-69 but finished just 11th in the American League with 39 saves.
