DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) \u2013 A ticket sold in the North Dakota city of Dickinson has won a Wild Card 2 jackpot worth a little more than $673,000.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota lottery officials say the ticket matched all five white balls and the Wild Card in Wednesday\u2019s drawing. The winning numbers were 2, 9, 14, 22, 30 and the Wild Card was the Queen of Diamonds.<\/p>\n
The ticket was purchased at the Pit Stop in Dickinson. It is the second Wild Card 2 jackpot winner in North Dakota this year.<\/p>\n
There was also a $10,000 Powerball winner from the December 18th drawing. It was sold at HiWay Service in Hankinson.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The odds of winning the Wild Card 2 jackpot are 1 in about 1.9 million.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A federal judge says it’s too early to tell whether an appeal by a man sentenced to death for killing a University of North Dakota student can be decided without a hearing.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lawyers in the case of Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., of Crookston, Minn., appeared in a Fargo courtroom Thursday to update U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson on the habeas motion, considered the last step in the appeal process.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A jury in 2006 convicted Rodriguez, a convicted sex offender, of kidnapping and killing Dru Sjodin (shuh-DEEN’), of Pequot Lakes, Minn.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The government last month filed a 417-page answer to the appeal, which claims among other things that Rodriguez is mentally disabled and his trial lawyers did a poor job.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Damage to a high-rise apartment building in Fargo is estimated at $125,000 after a fire blamed on an unattended candle.

\nMost of the damage was caused by water from the sprinkler system in the 22-story building. The automatic sprinklers extinguished the fire in a 15th-floor apartment Tuesday night.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The building has 249 one-bedroom apartments and is one of the tallest residential buildings in North Dakota’s largest city. No one was hurt, though some residents were displaced for a time.<\/p>\n

Juniors and seniors were allowed inside for two hours Thursday to get things they had to leave behind after a gunman opened fire, wounding one student before killing himself. Underclassmen are scheduled to report Friday. Many students visited a tribute to wounded student Claire Davis. She remains in critical condition. Classes will resume in January.

New Mexico is the newest, after a ruling Thursday from the state’s highest court. Justice Edward Chavez wrote that none of New Mexico’s marriage statutes specifically prohibits same-gender marriages, but that the state’s laws as a whole have prevented same-sex couples from marrying. And he said that’s unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

It was shut down for two and a-half hours because of slippery conditions that caused a cargo plane to lose traction on a taxiway. An airport spokeswoman says crews were able to get one of the three runways de-iced. In the meantime, a number of flights were canceled or diverted to other Utah airports.
