Jamestown (CSi) A unique fundraiser is set to benefit the Jamestown\/Stutsman County United way.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s (Dec 23, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown United Way Executive Director,Karla Bachmeier said a Victorian “High Tea,” will be held at the North Dakota State Hospital\u2019s Superintendent\u2019s House, December 27 & 28, 2013.<\/p>\n

She said this is a 1917 style home with plenty of charm.<\/p>\n

She can be contacted to make reservations, with seating limited to 70 individuals at each High Tea, calling 701-252-6390.<\/p>\n

She added to gather your friends and attend the High Tea, a relaxing fun experience following the busy holiday’s.<\/p>\n

Attire may consist of dusting off your vintage hat and show it off, or come as you are.<\/p>\n

She added that this event is not just for the ladies, bring your significant other, and little girls just love tea parties. Seating options include private party style, or attendees may sit with others in mixed company.<\/p>\n

Karla\u2019s sister, Victoria Hokanson from Roseberg, Oregon, is in Jamestown assisting with the High Tea.<\/p>\n

She said this High Tea has protein in the meal and will consist of a light three course meal with an abundance of hot tea, musical entertainment and plenty of socializing time.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that the first course will be sandwiches and salads, followed by a serving of scones, and then assort desserts.<\/p>\n

Ms. Hokanson and her husband operate a Bed and Breakfast in Oregon, and host High Teas, three times a year.<\/p>\n

There will be three seating times for the High Tea:<\/p>\n

Bismarck (CSi) USDA Rural Development recently announced two upcoming grant application deadlines.<\/p>\n

  1. Value Added Producer Grant: applications are being accepted for grants to help agricultural producers enter into value-added activities intended to give them a competitive business edge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In fiscal year 2012, for example, Dakota Pride Cooperative in Jamestown received a $49,000 grant to expand their reach into South Korea by marketing identity-preserved, non-genetically modified soybeans.<\/p>\n

    \u3000BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Linton-based power company says it is working to restore power to its customers in four south-central North Dakota counties.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 KEM Electric Cooperative says in a recorded telephone message that power was out Monday morning to its rural electric consumers in Emmons, Kidder, Logan and McIntosh counties.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The cooperative says it has located the problem and is working to fix it. The company says it did not have an estimated time when power would be restored.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The company says it provides electricity to one of the more sparsely populated areas in the state, with an average of 1.2 members per mile of power line.<\/p>\n

    BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Basin Electric has signed a power purchase agreement with a new wind project to be developed in South Dakota.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The project is co-owned by Fagen Inc. of Granite Falls, Minn., and the principals of Dakota Plains Energy in Aberdeen, S.D. It’s scheduled to go online by the end of 2015.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dakota Plains Energy President Rob Johnson says the Campbell County wind farm will provide 98 megawatts of energy to nearly 30,000 homes in the Upper Midwest.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Basin’s announcement follows its November announcement to enter into two power purchase agreements for an additional 278 megawatts of wind power from projects in North Dakota.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Basin CEO and General Manager Andrew Serri says the projects will help bring the renewable portion of the company’s generating portfolio up to more than 1,100 megawatts.<\/p>\n

    FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Researchers from the National Park Service and Colorado State University are studying haze levels in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 haze has become more noticeable in park’s north unit, which is surrounded by oil and gas development.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haze and other air quality indicators have long been a concern around Theodore Roosevelt National Park and other parks in western North Dakota. Emissions are now on the rise with the dramatic increase in oil drilling and production.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Park chief of resources Bill Whitworth says the haze is increasing, but it’s not every day.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The school has scheduled a pep fest Friday at a 10,000-seat baseball stadium.

    Arizona is No. 1 in The Associated Press college basketball poll for the third straight week.<\/p>\n

    The Wildcats (12-0) are again a runaway choice, receiving 63 No. 1 votes from the 65-member national media panel Monday.<\/p>\n

    Syracuse drew the other No. 1 votes and was No. 2, with the top eight teams holding their spots from last week.<\/p>\n

    Ohio State is third followed by Wisconsin, Michigan State, Louisville, Oklahoma State and Villanova. Duke drops to ninth after it was tied for eighth last week with Villanova. Wichita State is No. 10, its first top 10 ranking since spending two weeks at No. 8 in December 2006.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – A California judge has ordered a second medical evaluation to determine whether a girl who is on life support following tonsil surgery is brain dead. The order calls for the 13-year-old (Jahi McMath) to be examined later today by Paul Fisher, the chief of child neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Doctors at Children’s Hospital in Oakland have concluded the girl is brain dead, but her family disputes that. They also want a third evaluation from another doctor, and the judge is expected to take that request up Monday.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CHICAGO (AP) – Heavy traffic is expected Monday — not just by holiday travelers on the highways, but also online by Americans facing a deadline to sign up for health insurance. This was supposed to be the last day people could sign up and still get coverage by the first of the year. But the administration is extending that deadline by a day, giving people in 36 states more time to select a plan.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HONOLULU (AP) – In a symbolic step, President Barack Obama has signed up for health insurance through the new exchanges created by his health care overhaul. The White House says Obama signed up through the Washington, D.C., marketplace over the weekend. Because he signed up in private, without reporters present, it was unclear whether Obama encountered any of the website glitches that millions of other Americans have experienced. Obama will continue receiving health care through the military. But when he signed the Affordable Care Act into law in 2010, the White House pledged Obama would personally participate. The White House says he enrolled to show support for the marketplaces.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CINCINNATI (AP) – Ohio’s attorney general says the state will appeal a federal judge’s ruling ordering recognition of gay marriages on death certificates. While the judge’s ruling Monday applies only to the death certificate issue, his opinion challenges Ohio’s ban on gay marriage as unconstitutional.

    \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Police say a 14-year-old Colorado girl has been fatally shot by her stepfather after a report of a burglary at her home. A police spokesman in Colorado Springs says the girl’s stepfather fired the shot, but it isn’t clear whether he had mistaken the teen for a burglar. The stepfather hasn’t been arrested and it will be up to prosecutors to decide whether charges should be filed. Colorado’s “Make My Day” law allows residents to defend themselves against intruders.<\/p>\n
