For New Year&#8217;s Eve, fireworks may be used from 9 a.m. Dec. 31 through 1 a.m. Jan. 1<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown Police says the only place to receive a permit to sell fireworks in Jamestown during this time period is Memory Fireworks.<\/p>\n<p>Tracy Wolf, along with his wife and son from Bismarck, have opened the Memory Fireworks location in Jamestown, on 24th Avenue Southwest, across from Superpumper, open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Mandan fireworks vendors say they&#8217;re pleased with sales over the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Britta Knutson manages the Memory Fireworks south of Mandan and says, that business is good and word is just starting to be spread that they are open. She says people are excited about being able to start the new year off with a bang.<\/p>\n<p>Mandan allows fireworks to be ignited within city limits after 5 p.m. on New Year&#8217;s Eve and until 1 a.m. on New Year&#8217;s Day. Across the river in Bismarck, it&#8217;s illegal to do so within city limits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Arts Center reports that in cooperation with R.M. Stoudt, in Jamestown, over $2,000 was raised, for the Arts Center in the &#8220;Driven To Give,&#8221; event.<\/p>\n<p>In October R.M. Stoudt offered a test drive in new Lincolns located at the Arts Center, and for each test drive, Lincoln, through R.M. Stoudt, donated $20 per driver to the Arts Center.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Executive, Felicia has announced the winners of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce awards that will be handed out at the Annual Banquet on Janaury 30, 2014 at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Those include:<\/p>\n<p>Outstanding Citizen of the Year: J.T. (AP) &#8211; An investigation into the September death of a miniature pony near Bottineau concluded it was an accident.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Bottineau County Sheriff&#8217;s Department and North Dakota Stockmen&#8217;s Association&#8217;s investigated what appeared to be an intentional dragging death.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But as a result of the probe, charges won&#8217;t be filed against the three young people who said they hit the horse that night.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The trio told investigators they didn&#8217;t report it because they didn&#8217;t want to get in trouble. (AP) &#8211; A North Dakota volunteer group has become a fixture at funerals of military members, law enforcement, firefighters and other first responders.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jim Avard of Mandan is a ride captain and assistant state captain for the North Dakota Patriot Guard.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Avard\u00a0says \u00a0between 900 and 1,200 members volunteer their time, talents and resources to honor those who serve.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Patriot Guard members are often recognized as flag-carrying motorcycle riders leading processions, but members don&#8217;t have to ride.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The group&#8217;s motto &#8220;Standing By&#8221; has been its focus since 2005, when members organized nationally to protect and shield the family of a fallen U.S. soldier from protesters at his funeral.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Avard says the North Dakota group formed in 2006 and is affiliated with the national Patriot Guard riders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; President Obama has signed the first bill authored by North Dakota Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer into law.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Bureau of Land Management Streamlining Act passed the House on May 15 and the Senate on Dec. 20. The bill includes North Dakota among a list of six states in a pilot project meant to improve the efficiency of processing federal oil and natural gas permits.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cramer says he&#8217;s happy that the president &#8220;accepted these modest improvements&#8221; to the federal permitting process.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Industrial Commission has given backers of a proposed coal-to-liquid fuel plant in western North Dakota a sixth extension of state aid to study the project.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dallas-based North American Coal Corp. says developers asked for the extension because favorable coal legislation and a clear U.S. energy policy is still needed for the $4 billion project to move forward.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North American Coal and Headwaters Inc. of South Jordan, Utah, formed American Lignite Energy LLC in 2007 to oversee construction and operation of the proposed plant.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Industrial Commission in 2007 committed up to $10 million from coal tax collections to determine the project&#8217;s potential.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Records show North American Coal has spent more than $1.38 million in state money to study the project, including about $35,000 this year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Washington Redskins have fired coach Mike Shanahan after a 3-13 season.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shanahan was dismissed Monday after meeting with team owner Dan Snyder.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shanahan went 24-40 in four years in Washington, but his greater failure was an inability to restore order and professionalism to a franchise that has often been in disarray for the last two decades.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Redskins finished last in the NFC East in three of Shanahan&#8217;s four seasons.
