Local officials will then send off the recommendation later Friday, which is due to the Department of Transportation by January 6, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday\u2019s (Jan 2, 2014) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner said, airport officials will be sending the recommendation of either the present carrier, Great Lake Airlines, of SkyWest Airlines, with a Code Share with United Express, to provide Jamestown with Essential Airline Service (EAS) for the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>He said, based on support from the Jamestown City Council, the Stutsman County Commission and others from the community local officials will tell the Department of Transportation of the support for SkyWest.<\/p>\n<p>The airline proposes, one daily <span style=\"font-family: Verdana,arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,arial;\">jet flight (50 passenger) to and from the Denver Hub. The service includes a restroom, flight attendant and a galley.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The online survey at CsiNewsNow.com indicates that Great Lakes Airlines is preferred ty 40% of the those taking the survey, while 60% support SkyWest.<\/p>\n<p>Leitner says a decision by the Department of Transportation is expected by late January or or early February 2014, with the new two year contract starting in March.<\/p>\n<p>Coming up in 2014, Leitner pointed out that the airport will have installed a new vertical guidance system, and hangar construction bids will be advertised.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013 airport improvement projects include installation of a new beacon, along with new gates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table dir=\"ltr\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"50%\">\u3000<\/td>\n<td valign=\"center\" width=\"20%\">\u3000<\/td>\n<td valign=\"center\" width=\"30%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/freepolls.com\/fs_img\/spacer.gif\" width=\"75\" height=\"19\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) Jamestown and Valley City residents have received a phone call from Grenada with the Area Code 473.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown residents got the call earlier this week, and in Valley City a reports came in on the calls on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>If the number left on messages is called back, you will be charge long distance rates, and the number connects to an &#8220;adult service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) Officials report that the 2013 Barnes County Salvation Army Kettle Campaign was very successful, netting over $58,000, a new record for the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, $55,000 was raised in the annual kettle campaign.<\/p>\n<p>$26,000 was collected during the 2011 Red Kettle Campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Officials thank Marketplace Foods, Leever\u2019s Foods and Shopko for donating their spaces, and volunteer bell ringers, to help make the annual fund raiser a success.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bismarck (CSi) The N.D. State Council on Developmental Disabilities has awarded seven grants totaling over $298,000 to five North Dakota organizations that serve individuals with developmental disabilities and their family members. Grant funds are intended to support independent community living, self-advocacy and leadership skills, education, and other supports for individuals with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Family Voices of North Dakota in Edgeley received funding for its Parent to Parent Project, a network of parents supporting families of children with developmental delays, disabilities, and special health needs. The project provides emotional and informational support through face-to-face meetings, phone conversations, e-mail correspondence, and online support groups as well as training for parents and providers, along with other support. Information on the project is online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fvnd.org\/nd_parent_to_parent\">www.fvnd.org\/nd_parent_to_parent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Arc of Bismarck was awarded grant funding for the third year to support an educational video project titled &#8220;Capability Chronicles.&#8221; The 10-episode series highlights various disability-related topics that showcase the abilities and contributions people with disabilities can make to a community.<\/p>\n<p>KAT Communications in Bismarck also received grant funding to establish the N.D. American Indian and Developmental Disabilities initiative. The initiative is intended to educate our state\u2019s American Indian population with developmental disabilities and others about the services and supports available so they can continue to live in their communities. Culturally-reflective materials will be created including three video presentations on developmental disability-related issues, and printed materials for tribal schools, health facilities, providers, and other entities. A one-day summit will also take place to raise awareness about individuals with developmental disabilities on reservations.<\/p>\n<p>The N.D. Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University was awarded grant funding to support three projects for individuals with disabilities. The Peer Advocates Voices Empower (PAVE) project will equip participants with anti-bullying strategies for students with disabilities in middle schools in Bottineau, Fargo, and Minot.<\/p>\n<p>The other projects receiving grant funding include assisting individuals with disabilities in securing inclusive, affordable, and accessible housing, and educating North Dakotans about disability-related topics through a statewide outreach campaign called Perceptions Project.<\/p>\n<p>Each year distributions of grant funds support projects and innovative programs that enhance opportunities for people with developmental disabilities and their families.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; BNSF Railway has opened a claims center for residents of Casselton after the derailment of a crude-oil carrying train about a mile from the southeastern North Dakota town.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No one was hurt in the Monday derailment, but about two-thirds of the town&#8217;s 2,400 residents temporarily evacuated.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Steve Hedlin was among the first in line when the claims center opened Thursday morning at a hotel in Casselton. Hedlin says he left town with his father, girlfriend and her three children after the derailment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hedlin says he intends to file a claim for about $200 to cover the cost of a hotel and food in Fargo and for the gas it took to get there and back.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says the railroad was processing about nine claims per hour Thursday.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Casselton Mayor Ed McConnell says he suspects several business owners and individuals will file claims.<\/p>\n<p>BNSF says one of the lines reopened at 3 a.m. Thursday and the second about 15 minutes later.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0McBeth says trains have been operating on the route since then without incident.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic was rerouted on other lines while cleanup and repair work was done, but BNSF says some shipments moving through the corridor might be delayed up to 36 hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The National Transportation Safety Board says a\u00a0\u00a0preliminary analysis shows that the grain train was traveling 28 mph before derailing while using emergency brakes.\u00a0 The oil train was going 42 mph when it hit the derailed grain train car on it\u2019s track.\u00a0 Board member Robert Sumwalt says\u00a0 investigators were able to look at video from the end of one of the locomotives.<\/p>\n<p>A broken axle has been found and will be studied to see if it played a role in the derailment and crash on Monday. Sumwalt says it\u2019s still the early stages of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Railroad Administration data shows that Cass County \u00a0led North Dakota with 30 train derailments from January 2000 through October 2013, and nearly half of the county\u2019s 37 overall train accidents were caused by track defects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) &#8211; Following a string of explosive accidents, federal officials say crude oil being shipped by rail from the Northern Plains across the U.S. and Canada may be more flammable than traditional forms of oil. The U.S. Department of Transportation issued a safety alert Thursday. It warns the public, emergency responders and shippers about the high explosive potential of crude being shipped from the Bakken oil shale patch in Montana and North Dakota. The warning comes in the aftermath of the massive explosion caused by Monday&#8217;s oil train derailment near Casselton, N.D.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<b><b><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>(CSi) Troopers with the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to 209 crashes from December 1<sup>st<\/sup>-31<sup>st<\/sup>, 2013 in the Southeast Region of the NDHP. The Southeast Region encompasses the following fifteen counties: Traill, Cass, Richland, Steele, Barnes, Ransom, Sargent, Griggs, Stutsman, LaMoure, Dickey, Eddy, Foster, Logan and McIntosh Counties. Of the 209 crashes, 178 were property damage only and 31 were injury crashes. Luckily, no fatal crashes occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last five years, the NDHP has averaged 110 crashes investigated in the month of December within the Southeast Region. December 2013 was an abnormally busy month compared to other years.<\/p>\n<p>147 of the 209 crashes occurred in Cass County, with 126 crashes occurring in the Fargo metro area on I94 between Exit 343 and the Red River Bridge and I29 between Exit 60 and Exit 69.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists continue to drive too fast for conditions, accelerate too quickly while merging into traffic, follow too close, utilize their cruise control and speed on the icy road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>We urge motorists to slow down, take the cruise control off, increase their following distances, safely merge into traffic, and to wear their seat belt. Motorits should always be prepared for changing road conditions, especially during out winter months and to utilize the NDDOT Travel Information Map or to call 511 before leaving on a trip.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Grand Forks police are looking for two men who stole four bottles of booze worth $2,800 from a liquor store.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One of the bottles shoplifted Sunday afternoon from Happy Harry&#8217;s Bottle Shop was a $2,600 bottle of King Louis XIII cognac.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say one suspect is in his 50s to 60s and the other is in his late 30s to mid-40s. He wants just one more.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The senior signal-caller will cap off a stellar career on Saturday when the undefeated and top-seeded Bison face Towson for the FCS championship in Frisco, Texas.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jensen has won 47 games with the Bison. The California Supreme Court today granted a law license to Garcia, who challenged a federal law that says people who are in the country illegally can&#8217;t get professional licenses from the government or with the use of public money. Garcia arrived in the country illegally 20 years ago to pick almonds with his father. (AP) &#8211; Family members say they&#8217;re not convinced that Warren Weinstein (WYN&#8217;-steen) is still alive &#8212; despite a recently released video and letter from the American man who was kidnapped in Pakistan by al-Qaida more than two years ago.
