(AP) \u2014 A well-known North Dakota pilot who has participated in air shows throughout the country died after his plane crashed while he was practicing for a Valley City show.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Odegaard, 66, of Kindred, died Friday when his 1945 Super Corsair airplane went down at the Barnes County Municipal Airport at 5:55 p.m, the Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 Witnesses said Odegaard was attempting a barrel roll prior to the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Highway Patrol Sgt. Troy Hischer said authorities aren\u2019t yet sure if the crash was caused by mechanical or human error.<\/p>\n<p>Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration arrived on the scene Friday night, which had two agents investigating the site Saturday in Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething went terribly wrong and he crashed,\u201d Hischer told the (Fargo) Forum newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>Larry Welken, vice chairman of the airport\u2019s board of directors, was on the field helping fuel planes when the crash happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looked like he was possibly trying to get out of the plane, like he knew something was wrong,\u201d said Welken, a pilot for 35 years. \u201cHe just plowed into the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An eyewitness said , no smoke was noticed coming from the plane, and no explosion occurred before the plane went down.<\/p>\n<p>There was a small fire was on the ground that was possibly ignited by fuel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/odegaardRobert.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"odegaardRobert\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/odegaardRobert-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Odegaard founded and operated <a href=\"http:\/\/odegaardaviation.homestead.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Odegaard Aviation<\/a>, a fixed-base operation and aerial spray firm. He was active in the formation of the Fargo Air Museum, where he was a board member. He also was a member of the board of directors for the North Dakota Aviation Association.<\/p>\n<p>Odegaard has received numerous aviation honors, including the Henderson Air Racing History Award, the Aviation Mechanic Safety Award, the 1999 Aviation Heritage Trophy, and the 1999 People\u2019s Choice National Aviation Heritage Invitation.<\/p>\n<p>He also had been involved with production of the aviation movie \u201cThunder Over Reno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m kind of stung by it. It\u2019s a shock,\u201d said Dick Walstad, co-chairman of the Fargo air show. \u201cHe\u2019s one of those guys where if it had wings, he could fly it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Dennis Helland, chairman of the Barnes County Airport Authority,\u00a0says that Odegaard was a legend in the flying community and was known nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Valley City air show has been cancelled. News) &#8212; The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out at 2:22-p.m., Friday (Sept 7, 2012) to an oven fire, at a residence located at 819 13t<sup>h <\/sup>Avenue, Southwest.<\/p>\n<p>City Fire Chief, Jim Reuther says, grease in the hot oven, caused the fire.<\/p>\n<p>No damages, as the fire department extracted smoke from the home.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries reported.<\/p>\n<p>Five units of the city fire department with 24 fire fighters were on the scene about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; Jamestown Police investigated a one vehicle accident about 3:30-p.m., Friday (Sept 7, 2012) at Railroad Drive, East, near the intersection of 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Street Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>Reports from the scene indicate a car rolled off of Railroad Drive East, down a slight embankment, and landed against a building.<\/p>\n<p>The driver escaped the vehicle on her own, as the City Fire Department returned to the fire hall after being called to the scene for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown Area Ambulance Service was called to the scene, and transported the driver for medical services.<\/p>\n<p>The female driver appeared to be alone in the car at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n<p>The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office was also called to the scene, as the cause of the accident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>More information when the police report is filed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. (AP) &#8211; A man working on a water project in Bismarck died when he was struck by a backhoe bucket while in a trench installing pipe.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 36-year-old man from Minnesota was not immediately identified. Authorities say he was working on Bismarck&#8217;s new $16 million water intake project when the incident happened Sunday afternoon.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities are turning over the investigation to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; State, federal and military officials have<br \/>\nhonored members of the North Dakota Air National Guard&#8217;s 119th Wing<br \/>\nfor their service.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first Hometown Heroes event was held in 2010 to honor those<br \/>\nwho had served in the first eight years after the Sept. 11, 2001,<br \/>\nterror attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony held Sunday in Fargo recognized those<br \/>\nwho served more than 30 consecutive days of active duty between<br \/>\nJan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. (AP) &#8211; Grafton school officials say enrollment is<br \/>\ngrowing thanks to North Dakota&#8217;s oil boom on the opposite side of<br \/>\nthe state.<br \/>\nEnrollment in the Grafton Public Schools is rising after a decline<br \/>\nof more than 40 years. Superintendent Jack Maus says Grafton&#8217;s<br \/>\nfirst-day enrollment this year was 895 students, up 62 from last<br \/>\nyear.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The gain in students in the northeastern North Dakota city is<br \/>\nlinked to an increase in jobs. Many of those jobs are at Diverse<br \/>\nEnergy Systems, which makes storage tanks for the oil sites in the<br \/>\nwestern part of the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Maus says some Grafton residents commute to jobs in the oil<br \/>\nfields, which opens up their previous jobs in Grafton for<br \/>\nnewcomers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Chief Justice Gerald<br \/>\nVandeWalle (VAN&#8217;-duh-wall) says a report on western North Dakota&#8217;s<br \/>\njudicial system is a &#8220;useful tool&#8221; for asking the Legislature to<br \/>\ngive some help.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Bar Association report says western North Dakota needs<br \/>\nat least two more judges and additional clerks and other court<br \/>\npersonnel.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It recommends hiring at least one more lawyer for the state&#8217;s<br \/>\npublic defender system.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota has 44 district judges who handle trials.
