Valley, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 Following the Federal Aviation Administration investigation at Friday\u2019s crash site, the Barnes County Airport reopened Saturday.<\/p>\n

Friday evening\u2019s tragic plane crash took the life of pilot, Bob Odegaard, of Kindred, who was practicing for Saturday\u2019s Air Show, which was cancelled.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Airport Authority, Chairman, Dennis Helland, is asking anyone with photos, to contact the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Photos may include the plane in flight, on the ground or during the crash.<\/p>\n

66-year-old Bob Odegaard died after his 1945 Super Corsair crashed Friday night, about 5:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u3000Jamestown, N.D. (KCSi- T.V.) — The United Way of Stutsman County will be launching its campaign on Sept. 13, 2012 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, In Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Guests on the Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, on Monday, from the United Way were the President, Lynette Stodart, and 1st<\/sup> Vice Presidnet, Carla Edinger.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ms. Stoddart said, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes many activities, such as a shoot out with community leaders, a cakewalk with cakes from various bakeries in town and bouncy games for children to begin fundraising toward the goal of $200,000. A full meal will also be served.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Those participating in the Hoop Shoot will be Jamestown\u2019s Mayor, Katie Andersen, Brad Nold from Farmers Insurance, Greg Allen from Cavendish, Amber from the Jamestown College Women\u2019s basketball starting center, along with Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger, and Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther, along with Jamestown School Superintendent, Bob Toso, and two employees from the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Brian the Phamacy Manager, and Jeremy the I.T. Manager.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The theme for the campaign is “Be an All-Star”.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ms. Stoddart added, “We are very excited to launch the \u2018Be an All-Star campaign. The team has set a much higher goal than in recent years, due to extra need in the community. We feel the support of the community will remain strong, and have every intention of meeting that goal.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ms. Edinger said, the cost to attend the event is $7 for an adult, $4 for a child or $25 for a family, immediate family only.<\/p>\n

\u00a0She added, The United Way of Stutsman County helps 23 local agencies and over 99% of the money donated stays in Stutsman County. The organization will be doing an event every month for the rest of the year to help reach their campaign goal.<\/p>\n

\u00a0United Way packets will be distributed this month.<\/p>\n

Other upcoming United Way fundraisers include\u2026a pancake feed at Applebee\u2019s in Jamestown, a fall bake sale at the Buffalo Mall, and a return of the bowling tournament.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 Patriots\u2019 Day, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 will be commemorated in Jamestown with a program and a Freedom Walk\/Parade through downtown Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The event is sponsored by the Patriotic Council of our community.<\/p>\n

This is the 11th<\/sup> Anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy and a chance for our Jamestown area residents to commemorate and remember the event.<\/p>\n

Freedom Walk is a free and nonpartisan event open to the general public. This is not a platform to discuss politics or policies.<\/p>\n

“The purpose of this event is simply to continue the traditional Jamestown Freedom Walk started several years ago to reflect on the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country and to honor our military members and their families and our first responders”, said Charlie Kourajian, Patriotic Council Chairman.<\/p>\n

The event will start with a half mile walk through downtown Jamestown at 5:30 p.m., starting at the All Vets Club, 116 1\/2 First Street East.<\/p>\n

After the walk, the Vets Club will host a free spaghetti supper served (about 6:00 p.m.) followed with a short program of remembrance of the 9-11 tragedy and a show of support for our troops and first responders.<\/p>\n

Police chief Scott Edinger will be the speaker.<\/p>\n

Kourajian noted, “This will be an opportunity for the community to remember the 9-11 terrorist attack on our country and the people who perished as a result. t will also be a chance to show our appreciation and our continued support of our troops wherever they may be, abroad or stateside.<\/p>\n

Everyone is invited to attend, the walk route is short and should be an interesting walk\/mini-parade downtown. If you can\u2019t make the walk, you are invited to come for the supper and enjoy the program.”<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND\u00a0 (KCSi-T.V. News)\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, two people were injured Sunday morning\u00a0(Sept 9, 2012) \u00a0when a deer ran into the motorcycle they were riding.<\/p>\n

The report says,\u00a0 55 year old Mark S. Gusaas, of Horace, North Dakota was\u00a0operating \u00a0a 2012 Harley Davidson, a\u00a0part of a Harley Owners Group annual ride.<\/p>\n

As part of the ride, twenty-four motorcycles were in the group going from Fargo to Jamestown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Gusaas\u00a0motorcylce was \u00a0the third bike in the group.<\/p>\n

The bikes were westbound on North Dakota\u00a0Highway 26 just west of Sibley, at Lake Ashtabula when two deer crossed the road.<\/p>\n

The second deer ran into the left side of Gusaas\u2019 motorcycle.<\/p>\n

The motorcycle then tipped to the ground and began to roll, causing Gusaas and his passenger, 52 year oldValerie J. Gusaas, 52, of Horace, to be dismounted.<\/p>\n

Both riders were wearing helmets.<\/p>\n

The suffered injuries and\u00a0were\u00a0 taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, in Valley City.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Mark Gusaas was taken by air ambulance to Sanford in Fargo.<\/p>\n

The motorcycle was totaled.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have released the name of a man who died when he was struck by a backhoe bucket while working on a water project in Bismarck.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say 36-year-old Lucas Volker, of Sartell, Minn., died Sunday afternoon while working in a trench installing pipe.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Volker was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities are turning over the investigation to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Two North Dakota schools have been
\nrecognized nationally for high academic achievement.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Department of Public Instruction says Thompson Public
\nSchool and Carrington Elementary School have been named Blue Ribbon
\nSchools.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The federal Education Department has been recognizing schools
\naround the country through the program for 30 years.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Schools are honored each year at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

\u3000BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota is applying for a waiver from
\nrequirements of the federal No Child Left Behind education law.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 States are allowed to opt out of the controversial law if they
\nmeet certain requirements including developing alternative
\nstandards that meet federal approval.<\/p>\n

More than two dozen states already have received waivers.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A committee of North Dakota education officials recently voted
\nin favor of applying for a waiver, after nearly a year of study.
\nState School Superintendent Wayne Sanstead said Monday that the
\nstate has submitted a request.<\/p>\n

If the Education Department approves it this fall, the state’s alternative standards will take effect beginning with the 2013-14 school year.<\/p>\n

\u3000\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williston’s multimillion dollar jail and
\nlaw enforcement center completed less than five years ago was
\ndesigned to handle prisoner growth for five decades and take
\ntaxpayers a quarter-century to retire the bond.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The $16 million Williams County Law Enforcement Center is now
\npaid for due to the explosion of oil activity in western North
\nDakota.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But Williams County Sheriff Scott Busching says the jail also is
\nfull because of the increased crime that has come with a soaring
\npopulation.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Williams County Commissioner Dan Kalil says the bond for the law
\nenforcement center will be retired next month but county
\ncommissioners likely will ask voters to keep the half-cent sales
\ntax on the books to help pay for a possible expansion of the
\nfacility and other infrastructure needs.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Homeless shelters in the Fargo-Moorhead area
\nreport unprecedented demand this summer.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New Life Center Assistant Director Rob Swiers says the shelter turned away 178 men in June and July because of a lack of space. He says numbers
\nhave been rising steadily since 2008, and case managers can’t keep
\nup.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials cite the state’s good economy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Fargo-Moorhead Coalition for Homeless Persons Executive Director Laurie Baker says people from across the country are coming to North Dakota looking for jobs.<\/p>\n

She also says a housing crisis in the western oil patch is forcing some people into shelters in the east.<\/p>\n

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Four officials with Dakotas-based Sanford Health are attending a medical conference in Africa this week that could set the stage for further expansion on that continent.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The health network plans to have 10 clinics in the African nation of Ghana by 2016. Sanford official Ruth Krystopolski\u00a0says \u00a0the goal is to replicate that effort in other developing nations, though no decisions have been made on where to go next.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sanford bills itself as the nation’s largest not-for-profit rural health care provider, with a presence in more than 125 communities in seven states.<\/p>\n

It also is in the process of developing clinics in Ireland, Israel and Mexico, and is considering expanding to China.<\/p>\n

It is headquartered in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Fargo, N.D.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Nevada woman is the new Miss Indian
\nNations.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-five-year-old Shannon Hooper of Fallon, Nev., was crowned
\nduring the 43rd annual United Tribes International Powwow in
\nBismarck, which wrapped up over the weekend.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hooper is a member of the Shoshone-Paiute (shuh-SHOH’-nee
\nPY’-yoot) tribe and a student at Western Nevada College. She
\nbecomes the 20th Miss Indian Nations.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The annual powwow is held at United Tribes Technical College in
\nBismarck. It draws thousands of people from around the country.<\/p>\n

\u00a0CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is urging negotiators to come up with a new contract for the city’s teachers quickly for the sake of the children. He says negotiations resumed a little before noon.<\/p>\n

At a news conference Monday, Emanuel defended the Chicago Public Schools’ contract offer to teachers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He says negotiators were close to agreement, but the teachers chose to go on strike despite that.<\/p>\n

Thousands of teachers walked off the job today in Chicago’s first schools strike in 25 years.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – The mayor of New Jersey’s capital city has been ordered released on $150,000 bond after being arrested on a corruption charge.<\/p>\n

But a federal magistrate says Trenton Mayor Tony Mack cannot leave the state while free on bail.<\/p>\n

Mack was arrested at his home this morning as a result of an FBI sting operation.<\/p>\n

Federal prosecutors say Mack agreed to take bribes in exchange for help in getting a would-be developer some city-owned land for a parking garage at a cut-rate price.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW YORK (AP) – President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney are set to address a major gathering of international philanthropists hosted by Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n

The former president announced today that Obama and Romney will participate in the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative on Sept. 25 in New York.<\/p>\n

Romney is scheduled to lead a panel looking at ways to redesign the global food production system.<\/p>\n

Obama is set to address a session later that day looking at how banks and other financial institutions can help the world’s poor.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CARROLLTON, Texas (AP) – A Texas man is charged with murder in the death of a 16-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

Police believe the girl was killed to keep her from testifying against the man at his upcoming sexual assault trial.<\/p>\n

They say Franklin Davis has confessed to the killing.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LOS ANGELES (AP) – A jury in Los Angeles is ordering Joe Francis — the man behind the “Girls Gone Wild” videos — to pay $20 million to casino mogul Steve Wynn.<\/p>\n

The jury found that Francis slandered Wynn when he claimed that Wynn threatened to kill him and bury him in the desert.<\/p>\n

The ongoing battles between the two involved gambling debt that Francis racked up in one of Wynn’s casinos.
