(AP) &#8211; Another Alberta clipper is bearing down on the Dakotas, but forecasters say it won&#8217;t be nearly as strong as the one that swept through Thursday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The storm that blew in from western Canada with winds gusting as strong as 76 mph snarled traffic, shut down schools, and damaged everything from trees and flags to signs and buildings.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Abeling says it&#8217;s one of the strongest clipper systems he&#8217;s seen in a while. He says another one is expected Friday night into Saturday, but with wind gusts of up to only about 40 mph.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A wind advisory is in place for central North Dakota for late Friday and early Saturday including the Jamestown area.\u00a0 A winter weather advisory has been posted for northeast and east central South Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Police Department is warning residents of a convicted sex offender, living in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>31 year old Thomas Stewart Maedche is living at 2308 Circle Drive, North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>He is 31 years old a white male five feet nine inches tall, weighing 245 pound with brown eyes and brown hair.<\/p>\n<p>Maedche was convicted of indecent exposure, in Burleigh County District Court, with a conviction date of June 17, 2008. Disposition: one year, with six months suspended with two years supervised probation.<\/p>\n<p>Maedche was convicted of sexual assault, with a conviction date of November 9, 1995 in Burleigh County District Court. Disposition: Juvenile Placement.<\/p>\n<p>Maedche was convicted on sexual assault on May 3, 1994 in Burleigh County District Court. Dispostion, unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Maedche is on GPS Monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>Maedche is not wanted by police at this time, and has served the sentence imposed by the court. This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution. His photo posted on line at CSiNewsNow.com<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday January 28, 2014, at 5-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The agenda item is the purchase and sale agreement between the City of Jamestown and big box home improvement store.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 According to Matt Leitner, manager at\u00a0Jamestown Regional Airport, Great Lakes Airline has released a\u00a0schedule change for Jamestown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starting Monday, Jan 20,\u00a0 Great Lakes Airline will\u00a0reduce\u00a0service to\u00a0only 1 flight a day from and to Minneapolis, Sunday through Friday.\u00a0 There will be no flights on Saturday.\u00a0\u00a0This will bring the total\u00a0weekly flights to 6, on the 19 passenger \u00a0Beech 1900 turbo-prop.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers are encouraged to check with their travel agent or the airline to see how the schedule change will impact their reservations and for exact flight times.\u00a0\u00a0 The &#8220;no Saturday flights&#8221; goes into effect Jan 18, 2014.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the Airport Authority\u00a0approved covering the expenses of sending Chairman Jim Boyd, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager Matt Leitner and Mayor Katie Andersen to Washington later this month to answer questions about the bid from SkyWest Airlines to provide essentail air service to Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The bids are advertised, reviewed, and awarded by the United States Department of Transportation for the FAA.<\/p>\n<p>Regional Airport Authority Chairman Jim Boyd says DOT officials have some concerns about the SkyWest Airlines bid.<\/p>\n<p>The SkyWest Airlines bid is a one flight daily roundtrip from Denver to Jamestown using a 50-seat jet airplane. The DOT minimum bid for a 50-seat jet airplane service to Jamestown is two daily flights.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/skywestCRJ2005.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"skywestCRJ2005\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/skywestCRJ2005-300x200.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>SkyWest&#8217;s bid would require a higher subsidy from the federal government because its plane would be traveling a greater distance.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the schedule reduction, Great Lakes Airlines, which currently provides service to Jamestown Regional Airport, submitted a bid to continue providing service to Jamestown with three roundtrip flights daily from Devils Lake\/Jamestown to Minneapolis, using 19-seat turboprop airplanes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is unknown if Great Lakes plans to withdraw or revise that bid, after the airline reduced flights.<\/p>\n<p>The original bid meets the DOT&#8217;s minimum bid requirement for turboprop airplanes.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Airport Authority has recommended the SkyWest Airlines bid to the DOT.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd says he hopes the state&#8217;s congressional representatives, including Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Senator John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Representative Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., will be able to answer questions from DOT officials about the SkyWest bid.<\/p>\n<p>Leitner said Great Lakes Airlines continues to have problems getting full flight crews for its flights due to changes in FAA requirements for co-pilots, increasing the minimum number of flight hours a co-pilot must have in order to be part of a flight crew for a passenger flight from 250 hours to 1,500 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The change has put qualified co-pilots in high demand for all airlines.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) The former recreational vehicle park, is the planned location for a McDonald\u2019s restaurant for Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>The location is to the back of the Wagon Wheel Inn.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s will lease the property.<\/p>\n<p>More announcements are expected in about two months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0TIOGA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Thirteen cars from an eastbound train carrying mostly empty truck containers and trailers derailed about 35 miles east of Williston on Thursday morning.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Williams County Emergency Services tells KFGO radio that it&#8217;s possible that 60 mph winds from a powerful winter storm might have caused the derailment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BNSF spokesman Steve Forsberg says the company hasn&#8217;t determined the cause but there was unusual weather in the area.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The derailment has blocked the main BNSF line, and customers have been told to expect delays of 36 hours to 48 hours. Forsberg says that could change depending on an assessment by repair crews.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On December 30th, a train carrying crude oil derailed and caught fire about a mile from Casselton, prompting the evacuation of about 1,400 people. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; U.S. officials say companies need to come up with safer ways to transport oil on the nation&#8217;s rail lines following some explosive accidents as crude trains proliferate across North America. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx met with oil and railroad executives Thursday in Washington, D.C. The meeting came after a series of derailments in North Dakota, Alabama and in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A North Dakota man has pleaded guilty to dealing drugs out of a trailer home on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. Chadwick Cummings is charged in federal court with maintaining drug-involved premises. Authorities say he used the residence to distribute methamphetamine and heroin to several people. He faces up to 20 years in prison when he&#8217;s sentenced April 21.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) &#8211; Spokane police have recovered a gun they believe was used to kill businessman Doug Carlile, and now suspect the crime might be a contract killing tied to troubled business dealings in North Dakota&#8217;s oil fields.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This week&#8217;s search of a car shop belonging to a co-worker of alleged shooter Timothy Suckow produced multiple weapons. They include a handgun police suspect was used to kill the 63-year-old Carlile on December 15th.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 50-year-old Suckow is charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $2 million bail.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Spokesman-Review reported Thursday that police searched a Spokane home where they seized several rifles and handguns said by the homeowner to belong to Suckow. Court documents said that included a .45-caliber handgun that matches the description of the weapon used to kill Carlile.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TIOGA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Unofficial results show that voters in the western oil patch city of Tioga have approved a $9.9 million bond issue to pay for the expansion of existing schools.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n218 voters were in favor Thursday and only 81 were opposed. That&#8217;s 73 percent approval, far higher than the 60 percent required.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Tioga school district has seen its student body more than double in recent years due to the oil boom. The expansion project will add on to both the elementary school and high school.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Superintendent D&#8217;Wayne Johnson says the plan will raise property taxes on a $200,000 home by about $256 a year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Officials from the federal government and electric utilities are slated to gather at in Bismarck to discuss how proposed regulation on carbon emissions could affect North Dakota. The daylong symposium organized by the North Dakota Public Service Commission will be held Wednesday at the state Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Independent Beef Association of North Dakota says it will oppose efforts to double the $1-per-head checkoff that state ranchers pay when they sell cattle.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Stockmen&#8217;s Association plans to ask the Legislature next year to double the checkoff to provide more money for beef research, education and promotion. Ranchers would have the option of asking for a refund of the additional dollar.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IBAND President Kenny Graner says any checkoff increase should be decided by ranchers nationwide &#8211; not by state lawmakers.\u00a0 And he says having to ask for a refund would be a headache for ranchers.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IBAND formed about eight years ago after becoming unhappy with the Stockmen&#8217;s Association. IBAND has about 270 members, while the Stockmen&#8217;s has about 3,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>VALLEY CITY (VCSU) &#8211; Milnor High School (N.D.) senior Briton Bussman has chosen to continue his education and basketball career at Valley City State University.<\/p>\n<p>Viking head coach Jeff Kaminsky announced today that Bussman has signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings starting this fall.<\/p>\n<p>A 6-foot-3 guard, Bussman helped lead Milnor to the North Dakota Class B State Title last season. The Bison are currently 12-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state this season. In December, Milnor won the Barnes County Tournament, which was played at Valley City State.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Briton is an outstanding addition to our program,&#8221; said Kaminsky. &#8220;He has had tremendous success on the basketball court and we are equally excited about the success he has had in the classroom. The versatility that he has as a perimeter player will provide him with an opportunity to have an immediate impact in our program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bussman is currently in the midst of a great senior season, averaging 26 points, nine rebounds and two assists per game for the Bison. His junior season earned him numerous accolades, including All State, State Tournament MVP, All Region, All District and All-Wild Rice Conference.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Briton is an exceptional student-athlete, smart and hard-working,&#8221; said Milnor head coach Ben Nelson. &#8220;I&#8217;ve seen him grow into a leader in the classroom and on the court; someone who is admired and respected by his peers. He has been instrumental to our success the past few years and I believe VCSU offers a great opportunity for him. They are receiving a quality young man.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bussman is the son of Brian and Sherry Bussman. He signed his letter of intent Thursday afternoon at Milnor High School. Bussman joins Williston High School&#8217;s Jayden Ferguson as current VCSU signees for the 2014-15 season.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City State University is coming off a 23-7 season and an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament during the 2012-13 season under coach Kaminsky.
