Jamestown (CSi) According to Matt Leitner, manager at Jamestown Regional Airport, Great Lakes Airline has released a schedule change for Jamestown.<\/p>\n
Starting Monday, Jan 20, Great Lakes Airline will reduce service to only 1 flight a day from and to Minneapolis, Sunday through Friday. There will be no flights on Saturday. This will bring the total weekly flights to 6, on the 19 passenger Beech 1900 turbo-prop.<\/p>\n
Passengers are encouraged to check with their travel agent or the airline to see how the schedule change will impact their reservations and for exact flight times. The “no Saturday flights” goes into effect Jan 18, 2014.<\/p>\n
Last week, the Airport Authority approved covering the expenses of sending Chairman Jim Boyd, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager Matt Leitner and Mayor Katie Andersen to Washington later this month to answer questions about the bid from SkyWest Airlines to provide essentail air service to Jamestown.<\/p>\n
The bids are advertised, reviewed, and awarded by the United States Department of Transportation for the FAA.<\/p>\n
Regional Airport Authority Chairman Jim Boyd says DOT officials have some concerns about the SkyWest Airlines bid.<\/p>\n
The SkyWest Airlines bid is a one flight daily roundtrip from Denver to Jamestown using a 50-seat jet airplane. The DOT minimum bid for a 50-seat jet airplane service to Jamestown is two daily flights.<\/p>\n
SkyWest’s bid would require a higher subsidy from the federal government because its plane would be traveling a greater distance.<\/p>\n
Prior to the schedule reduction, Great Lakes Airlines, which currently provides service to Jamestown Regional Airport, submitted a bid to continue providing service to Jamestown with three roundtrip flights daily from Devils Lake\/Jamestown to Minneapolis, using 19-seat turboprop airplanes. It is unknown if Great Lakes plans to withdraw or revise that bid, after the airline reduced flights.<\/p>\n
The original bid meets the DOT’s minimum bid requirement for turboprop airplanes.<\/p>\n
The Regional Airport Authority has recommended the SkyWest Airlines bid to the DOT.<\/p>\n
Boyd says he hopes the state’s congressional representatives, including Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Senator John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Representative Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., will be able to answer questions from DOT officials about the SkyWest bid.<\/p>\n
Leitner said Great Lakes Airlines continues to have problems getting full flight crews for its flights due to changes in FAA requirements for co-pilots, increasing the minimum number of flight hours a co-pilot must have in order to be part of a flight crew for a passenger flight from 250 hours to 1,500 hours.<\/p>\n
The change has put qualified co-pilots in high demand for all airlines.<\/p>\n
The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority met Saturday to review and update its strategic plan, setting priorities for 2014-18 assuming SkyWest Airlines will receive the bid to provide jet airplane passenger service to the Jamestown Regional Airport from Denver through the Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s Essential Air Services program starting later this year.<\/p>\n
Airport Authority member Brent Harris says he doesn\u2019t believe that there is currently enough parking space to accommodate a big increase in passengers at the airport.<\/p>\n
Airport Authority member Keith Veil agreed also says if the jet service from SkyWest proves popular enough to bring in a second flight daily, the authority should consider space for a new commercial hangar to house a jet airplane overnight.<\/p>\n
Chairman Jim Boyd said there is space on airport property to accommodate more parking and hangar space.<\/p>\n
The committee\u2019s goals for 2014-18 are:<\/p>\n
building a jetway boarding ramp;<\/p>\n
increasing the number of SkyWest flights and destinations;<\/p>\n
increasing public relations for new passenger and airport services;<\/p>\n
expanding market size with the Denver destination;<\/p>\n
increasing the crosswind runway width to 100 feet to accommodate jet landings;<\/p>\n
creating a terminal area growth plan that includes increased space for parking and aircraft accommodations\/hangars.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Passenger boardings at North Dakota’s eight commercial airports in 2013 set a record for the second straight year.<\/p>\n
The state Aeronautics Commission says boardings in Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Devils Lake and Jamestown totaled more than 1.1 million. That was an 11 percent increase from 2012, when boardings surpassed the million mark for the first time.<\/p>\n
North Dakota has a healthy economy in large part because of an oil boom in the western part of the state. Passenger boardings in the oil patch cities of Dickinson and Williston were up 47 percent and 152 percent respectively over the year.<\/p>\n
Aeronautics Commissioner Kyle Wanner says he expects the growth to continue.<\/p>\n
In December, of 2013 Jamestown boardings were 214, compared to 300 in December of 2012.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) A veteran of the Jamestown Police Department has been appointed Assistant Chief of Police, with the rank of Major.<\/p>\n
John Johnson started his new position today, assisting Jamestown Police Cheif Scott Edinger with administrative and supervision duties.<\/p>\n
His duties including being in charge when Chief Edinger is on vacation or out of town on department business.<\/p>\n
Before \u00a0his appointment Johnson was sergeant and a commander on the night shift.<\/p>\n

Spiritwood (CSi) — Spiritwood Energy Park Association announced this week that Dakota Missouri Valley Western RR (DMVW) of Bismarck, ND was awarded the bid for the rail procurement and construction project in Spiritwood Township, Stutsman County, ND.<\/p>\n
The DMVW bid was within the proposed $7.5M budget set for the project. The Dakota Missouri Valley Western RR company rated highly in all of the following areas: (a) extensive knowledge of the site; (b) extensive project specific experience with Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) (c) lowest financial risk factor and (d) lowest safety risk factor.<\/p>\n
DMVW has a strong working knowledge of the site. They were the contractor that built the Spiritwood Station rail spur. They are also under contract to operate the rail on the neighboring sites. DMVW is very well experienced in the rail construction industry and has extensive experience working with Class A Railroads.<\/p>\n
SEPA Business Manager Connie Ova says, “We are excited to have DMVW as partners in this promising venture and look forward to a phenomenal growth period in the Spiritwood Energy Park. DMVW will begin construction on May 1, 2014 and finish on October 1, 2014, weather permitting.<\/p>\n

KATHRYN, N.D. (AP) – A rural Kathryn woman is charged with three misdemeanors for the deaths of eight horses in one of her pastures.<\/p>\n
Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin says, Ginger Helland was charged with animal neglect, animal abuse and improper disposal of animal carcass.<\/p>\n
The horses were found in December.<\/p>\n
McClaflin says the state animal veterinarian office and North Dakota Stockmen’s Association helped in the investigation.<\/p>\n
Helland could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Missouri man is charged in federal court with stalking a North Dakota woman.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Carl Story is accused of harassing, intimidating and threatening to hurt the woman, who was living in Rolette. Story was arrested last week in Kansas City, Missouri.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The indictment says Story placed the woman “in reasonable fear” of death and serious bodily injury to herself and members of her immediate family.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Story is also charged with mailing threatening communications and interstate threatening communications.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court documents do not list a lawyer for Story.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The explosive derailment of an oil train near Casselton last month has North Dakota’s senators pushing harder than ever for expanded oil pipelines.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Republican John Hoeven and Democrat Heidi Heitkamp are longtime supporters of expanded pipelines. But the accident in Casselton that produced a fiery wreck and forced residents to briefly evacuate has the senators renewing their pitch to federal officials in recent days.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hoeven and Heitkamp have met with several federal officials in the aftermath of the Casselton crash. Much of that discussion has focused on increased rail safety. But the senators have also mentioned pipelines as an alternative or something that needs to be considered in tandem with increased safety procedures.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Residents defeated a $125 million proposal for schools on Dec. 10, but the school board plans to roll out a scaled back version this spring.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The revamped bond issue would pay for construction of a new elementary school, the construction of additions at Perkett and Edison elementary schools, and safety and security measures at all district schools.

(AP) – Williston Fire Chief Alan Hanson is resigning at the end of the month, and says leaving will be “somewhat of a relief.” Hanson took the reins of the fire department in 2007, before an oil boom that has transformed the city into a bustling regional hub. Hanson tells the Williston Herald that he’s had a lot of sleepless nights over the last three years, with increases in fires and ambulance calls.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State officials say preliminary work has begun on a unique wildlife crossing between two cities in the oil patch of North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The underpass is designed to allow wildlife will go underneath a bridge on U.S. Highway 85 between Watford City and Williston. It’s part of a $300 million upgrade on a road that has seen increased traffic with the oil boom.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wildlife officials say the area is a natural corridor for movement of big game animals like moose and white-tailed deer, as well as predators like mountain lions, coyotes and other animals.
