News) &#8212;\u00a0 Patriot Day, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 was commemorated in Jamestown at 5:30pm with a program and a Freedom Walk\/Parade through downtown Jamestown. The event is sponsored by the Patriotic Council of our community.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was the 11<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy and a chance for our Jamestown area residents to commemorate and remember the event.<\/p>\n<p>The event was a half mile walk through downtown Jamestown, starting at the All Vets Club, 116 1\/2 First Street East.<\/p>\n<p>About 70 individuals participated in the walk.<\/p>\n<p>After the walk, the Vets Club hosted a free spaghetti supper served followed with a short program of remembrance of the 9-11 tragedy and a show of support for our troops and first responders. Police chief Scott Edinger was the speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Edinger, talked about changes in law enforcement since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, including technology, allowing the sharing of information, between local, state and federal agencies.<\/p>\n<p>He said law enforcement has better communication with more access to information in vehicles with high<strong>&#8211;<\/strong>speed Internet in all cars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND &#8212; The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out Tuesday afternoon (Sept 11, 2012) twice within 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The first call came in at about 2:30 p.m., with a one-ton pickup, pulling two horse trailers on fire the two miles east of Jamestown, at the I-94 Bloom Exit 262, on the north side of the highway westbound.<\/p>\n<p>An area of grass was burned on the northside of the interstate, between the ramp and the interstate.<\/p>\n<p>More rural fire units were called out a few minutes later, to a grass fire about two miles south of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>No report on that fire was immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Update<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; Jamestown Police investigated a one vehicle accident about 3:30-p.m., Friday (Sept 7, 2012) at Railroad Drive, East, near the intersection of 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Street Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>A car rolled off of Railroad Drive East, down a slight embankment, and landed against a building.<\/p>\n<p>The driver escaped from the car, and the City Fire Department returned to the fire hall, after being called for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The police report said, 24 year old Jenna Vanhorne, of Jamestown was driving thee car, heading southeast attempting to turn around.<\/p>\n<p>As she backed up the car northwestly on Railroad Drive, she lost control, and the front end of the car spun around to the northwest, left the roadway and rolled, striking the steel building with the car coming to a rest on its top.<\/p>\n<p>There was $5,000 in damage to the car, and about $250 in damages to the building.<\/p>\n<p>The report says, Vanhorne was not wearing a seat belt.<\/p>\n<p>She was transported by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>She was cited for driving under the influence of a substance and was taken into custody upon her release from the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office was also called to the scene, as the cause of the accident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. (AP) &#8211; Vehicle traffic was kept out of the airport<\/p>\n<p>in North Dakota&#8217;s largest city for more than an hour on the<\/p>\n<p>anniversary of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks because of a bomb threat.<\/p>\n<p>The incident Tuesday afternoon did not affect flights, but<\/p>\n<p>authorities kept traffic out of Hector International while local<\/p>\n<p>and federal authorities investigated. That was a headache for some arriving passengers looking for taxi rides or hotel vans.<\/p>\n<p>Police Lt. Joel Vettel says authorities were more diligent than usual in their investigation because of the date.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing suspicious was found and no arrests were made.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police have arrested a man in an<\/p>\n<p>early morning gas station robbery.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege the 21-year-old man walked into the Red<\/p>\n<p>Carpet shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday and demanded cash and<\/p>\n<p>cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect had his hand in the pocket of his sweat<\/p>\n<p>shirt, leading the clerk to believe he had a weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The man left with cash and a pack of cigarettes. He was arrested a couple of hours later while walking along a street.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Two men are running independent campaigns<br \/>\nfor North Dakota governor this fall.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Frequent political candidate Roland Riemers (RY&#8217;-murs) and<br \/>\nRepublican Paul Sorum will be on the ballot as independents, along<br \/>\nwith Republican incumbent Jack Dalrymple and Democrat Ryan Taylor.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sorum is a Fargo architect. He has unsuccessfully sought the<br \/>\nNorth Dakota Republican endorsement to run for the U.S. Senate and<br \/>\ngovernor.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sorum opposed Dalrymple&#8217;s endorsement at the state GOP<br \/>\nconvention last spring. Sorum said at the convention that<br \/>\nRepublicans needed to &#8220;get behind Jack.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Riemers is a Grand Forks resident and longtime political<br \/>\ncandidate. He&#8217;s run for the U.S. Senate and the North Dakota<br \/>\nLegislature.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In 2004 the Libertarian Party endorsed Riemers&#8217; independent<br \/>\ncandidacy for governor. He even filed to run in North Dakota&#8217;s<br \/>\nDemocratic presidential primary in 1996.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Dickinson insurance agent accused of<\/p>\n<p>stealing $30,000 from a client has pleaded not guilty to five<\/p>\n<p>felony theft counts.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege that Scott Biggs took the money from a<\/p>\n<p>client&#8217;s trust account between June 2009 and November 2011 for his own use.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorney Irv Nodland says the case should be handled as a civil matter and not as a criminal matter, but Judge William Herauf this week ruled there was enough evidence to proceed with the criminal case.<\/p>\n<p>In July, state Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm ordered Biggs to stop selling insurance in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota lawmakers are supporting two<\/p>\n<p>options for cutting local property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>One proposal will continue giving subsidies to local schools to pay for property tax cuts.<\/p>\n<p>The program has cut the property tax bills of North Dakota homeowners by about 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping it going will cost about $400 million over two years.<\/p>\n<p>A second idea would give property tax credits to homeowners.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal knocks $75,000 off the property tax value of a home.<\/p>\n<p>If the homeowner is at least 65 years old, the credit rises to<\/p>\n<p>$125,000.<\/p>\n<p>The Legislature&#8217;s interim Taxation Committee voted Tuesday to support the two options.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ll both be introduced in the Legislature next year.<\/p>\n<p>Mandan Sen. Dwight Cook says he favors keeping the existing<\/p>\n<p>school subsidy program. He says it&#8217;s worked well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MEDORA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Officials at Theodore Roosevelt National<\/p>\n<p>Park are moving into the next phase of an elk management program.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent Valerie Naylor says the park has finished<\/p>\n<p>reducing what was a bloated elk herd, and now it will monitor and<\/p>\n<p>maintain the population through the use of radio collars.<\/p>\n<p>The National Park Service has contracted with an Idaho company to capture between 17 and 21 elk in the park&#8217;s south unit and fit them with the collars. The work is set for today and Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The elk reduction effort began in 2010, when officials estimated the park herd at more than 1,200 animals. Park staff and hundreds of volunteer shooters in fall 2010 and fall 2011 killed nearly 870 elk to bring the herd to a level the park can sustain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota State linebacker Travis Beck was<\/p>\n<p>fined $325 and sentenced to 40 hours of community service for an<\/p>\n<p>underage drinking offense.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s MVP in the Football Championship Subdivision title game will also attend an educational program offered to minors who are charged with consuming alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An 18-year-old football player says North<\/p>\n<p>Dakota State College of Sciences kicked him off the team after<\/p>\n<p>finding out he is gay.<\/p>\n<p>The college in Wahpeton acknowledges Jamie Kuntz was disciplined by the team. But football coach Chuck Parsons told Kuntz in a letter that he was removed for lying.<\/p>\n<p>What Kuntz lied about was a kiss from his from his much-older boyfriend at a game earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Kuntz was injured, so he was in the press box at Snow College in Pueblo, Colo.
