HIGHS<br \/>\nAROUND 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS ARE POSSIBLE AGAIN WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH<br \/>\n\u00a0THURSDAY MORNING&#8230;AND AGAIN THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY<br \/>\n\u00a0MORNING.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, (CSi) Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner says Jamestown and Devils Lake were informed, on Monday (Jan 27, 2014) that Great Lakes intends to <strong>discontinue commercial air service effective February 1, 2014. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leitner adds, due to a lack of qualified pilots Great Lakes is drastically scaling back Minneapolis St. Paul operations and exiting many markets. For affected markets, fares will be refunded and tickets will no longer be sold.<\/p>\n<p>Letiner points that the North Dakota congressional delegation and North Dakota Aeronautics Commission have been apprised of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Jamestown Regional Airport Authority Chairman Jim Boyd, Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen and Leitner participated in a conference call with Devils Lake, North Dakota Aeronautics, the federal congressional delegation and the U.S. Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in both Devils Lake and Jamestown earlier endorsed a switch from Great Lakes to SkyWest Airlines to provide service under the federal Essential Air Service program. Great Lakes provides service on turboprop planes, while SkyWest flies jets. The federal Department of Transportation has the final say,and has until February 6, 2014, to make a decision on either of the two airlines making bids on the Jamestown EAS package, the present carrier, Great Lakes Airlines, or SkyWest.<\/p>\n<p>The federal Department of Transportation has the final say.<\/p>\n<p>Starting Monday, Jan 20, Great Lakes Airline reduced service to only 1 flight a day from and to Minneapolis, Sunday through Friday. There are no flights on Saturday. This brings the total weekly flights to 6, on the 19 passenger Beech 1900 turbo-prop.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000Great Lakes Airlines Statement:<\/p>\n<p>CHEYENNE, Wyo., January 27, 2014 \u2013\u00a0 Effective February 1, 2014, Great Lakes Airlines will be suspending service from Devils Lake and Jamestown, ND; Fort Dodge and Mason City, IA; Ironwood, MI; and Thief River Falls, MN due to the severe industry-wide pilot shortage and its relative acute impact on Great Lakes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Charles Howell, CEO released the following statement:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cDue to the unintended consequences of the new congressionally mandated pilot regulatory requirements, the Company feels it is in the best interest of our customers, communities, and employees to suspend service from these stations until we are able to rebuild our staff of pilots in order to provide reliable service.\u00a0\u00a0 We deeply regret and apologize for this inconvenience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">All customers with future flights in any of these stations will be given refunds. (CSi)\u00a0\u2013 U.S. Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven today met with senior U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) officials to stress the need for regular and dependable air service to Devils Lake and Jamestown Regional Airports.<\/p>\n<p>The DOT officials committed to Heitkamp and Hoeven that they would announce Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts for North Dakota communities this week. If a new airline is selected in the EAS process, Heitkamp, Hoeven and the DOT also committed to pressing for an expedited transition to new service after the new bids are announced. (AP) &#8211; A Canadian man survived an accident caused by the weekend snowstorm near the border in North Dakota but was struck and killed when he went to help someone else.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened Sunday afternoon on Interstate 29 just south of the Pembina Port of Entry.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The agency says 53-year-old John Geortz, of Winnipeg, got out of his vehicle to check on another driver involved in the crash and was struck by a tractor trailer.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Four other people were injured in a third vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Williston police are investigating a report of a homicide and want the public&#8217;s help locating a piece of evidence.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Detective David Peterson tells The Associated Press that police received the report of a homicide on Saturday. He says police have not confirmed the report nor have they found a body.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peterson says police are looking for a bed mattress that is considered evidence in the case. He says the mattress may have been discarded along a roadway or ditch in the Minot area after being transported from Williston.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peterson says the public should report any discarded mattress found in the region.
