HIGHS AROUND 5 BELOW.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police has made an arrest in connection with three holdups or attempted holdup of Jamestown convenience stores.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Scott Edinger says, an attempted holdup of Dan\u2019s Sooper Stop, at 811 13<sup>th<\/sup> Street Northeast, occurred Tuesday evening (Jan 28, 2014) at about 8:30-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The man police identified as 55 year old Gary Lynn Hemphill of Jamestown, entered the store and said he had a weapon, demanding cash.<\/p>\n<p>The clerk on duty challenged him about actually having a weapon, which he said he did not have, and fled in a vehicle, which the clerk gave a description of, and police located it, leading to the arrest of Hemphill.<\/p>\n<p>He was wearing similar clothing the male suspect was wearing in the robberies of the Cenex Convenience store, on December 15, 2013 and Jetstream Car Wash, on January 9, 2014, located within a block of each other on 10<sup>th<\/sup> Street Southeast in Jamestown. Police believed the three incidents are connected.<\/p>\n<p>The clerk at Dan\u2019s Sooper Stop said the suspect was wearing a Carhart jacket with a hoody with a raincoat over it, and was wearing a mask, with a plastic bag over his head.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Edinger said Hemphill is being held at the Law Enforcement Center, Correctional Center in Jamestown, booked on &#8220;Criminal Attempt<span style=\"font-family: TimesNewRoman; font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: TimesNewRoman; font-size: xx-small;\">, &#8221; <\/span><\/span>and has not been formally charged, pending a further investigation at the crime scene, and processing information.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police in Mandan have identified a man they believe is the victim of a homicide.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the body of 28-year-old Alex Lansdon was found in his home on Monday night. Police say Lansdon is originally from California and had been living in Mandan the past two years.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No arrests have been made. The state crime bureau is helping in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Law enforcement officials say 22 people have been arrested in a drug bust on the North Dakota oil patch.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say the conspiracy involved heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cocaine. A handful of defendants are from California.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The operation dubbed &#8220;Operation Pipe Cleaner&#8221; was the result of a joint investigation by the FBI and North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fourteen of the defendants are charged in federal court and eight in Stark County.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Special agent in charge Chris Warrener of the FBI&#8217;s Minneapolis office says the &#8220;safety and well-being of the people of western North Dakota remains a priority&#8221; with federal, state and local officials.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota U.S. Representative Kevin Cramer says the farm bill passed by the House and sent to the Senate on Wednesday has &#8220;both good results and areas of concern&#8221; for North Dakota producers. The compromise measure was approved 251-166. Cramer voted for the bill.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Former North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman has been released from a hospital to continue his recovery at home from a traffic crash in Mandan early this month.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 43-year-old Poolman suffered a broken pelvis, broken wrist and a concussion in the Jan. 6 crash in which another man died. The Highway Patrol says Poolman was driving a sport utility vehicle that was struck by a pickup truck that crossed a concrete lane divider on Mandan&#8217;s Main Street.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0Poolman flew home on Tuesday from Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. He has 18 screws in his pelvis and will need months of physical therapy.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Poolman was state insurance commissioner from 2001 to 2007. He&#8217;s now vice chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FORT YATES, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has opened shelters for people without adequate heat due to a propane shortage exacerbated by recent cold weather. The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border. The tribe has opened shelters in Fort Yates on the North Dakota side and in Wakpala on the South Dakota side. The American Red Cross is providing meals at both locations, along with cots and blankets.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Westbound passengers on Amtrak&#8217;s Empire Builder line at Grand Forks, Devils Lake and Rugby are completing part of their trip by bus through Sunday. Spokesman Marc Magliari tells KZZY radio that the bus is taking the place of the train between Fargo and Minot, because of traffic demands.
