The 2014 figures include 1,192 undergraduate students, along with 149 graduate students in VCSU\u2019s online Master of Education (M.Ed.) program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The FTE figure for Spring 2014 is 956, an increase of 35 over last spring\u2019s mark of 921.<\/p>\n<p>The increase seen in VCSU\u2019s Spring Semester 2014 enrollment is part of a strong growth trend at Valley City State. Since 2009, VCSU\u2019s spring headcount numbers have grown from 959 to 1,341, a 40 percent increase. Similarly, FTE over the same period has increased from 767 to 956, a 25 percent increase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to announce this all-time record spring enrollment as well as the continuation of our recent significant campus growth,\u201d said VCSU President Steven W. Shirley. \u201cThe numbers reflect the quality and variety of our academic offerings, and they\u2019re an important indicator of the overall teaching and learning environment here at Valley City State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The record enrollment also points to an increase in student retention and success, said Shirley. \u201cSince our new student numbers\u2014transfers and new freshmen\u2014this spring are very similar to last spring\u2019s numbers, it means VCSU is retaining more of the students already here, and that\u2019s a positive indicator of student persistence and success across campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1890, VCSU completed construction on a $10.3 million renovation and addition to Rhoades Science Center in Summer 2013, and in Fall 2013 the university began offering a new major in software engineering, the first undergraduate major in software engineering in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>VCSU has been ranked a U.S. News \u2018Best College\u2019 for 16 consecutive years and the No. 1 or No. 2 Public Regional College in the Midwest each of the last 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>From&#8230;\u00a0 Greg Vanney<br \/>\nDirector of Marketing and Communications<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Valley City (CSi)\u00a0 Valley City State University has released its final student enrollment figures for Spring Semester 2014, and those figures indicate that VCSU has set records for both headcount and FTE (full-time equivalent), eclipsing all previous marks since the university switched to a semester system in 1992\u201393.
