Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to a Southwest Jamestown residence on Monday about 11:10-a.m.<\/p>\n

There was no fire. The smoke coming from the garage area was from a wood burning stove.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Prairie Paws Rescue is still selling sponsorships for $100 for the “Raise the Woof Comedy Tour” . The sponsor will also get two tickets to the show.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s (Feb 24, 2014) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President and Co-Founder of Prairie Paws Rescue Kaye John said ticket sales are going well, and more sponsors are welcome.<\/p>\n

Prairie Paws is raising money for a used vehicle to transport animals and equipment.<\/p>\n

She says the vehicle is essential to animal rescues which is used it to get equipment and animals to meet and greet events, transporting animals to vet appointments, and picking up dogs from area pounds on death row to get them either to Prairie Paws or to other reliable havens.<\/p>\n

She adds, the old van is a hazard to volunteers and pets as there is no heat, electrical doesn\u2019t work with no ability to adjust seats, dome lights and most important no headlights for night time travel. The van is also used to bring animals to Meet and Greet Events around the area.<\/p>\n

The standup comedy troup, “Raise the Woof Comedy Tour” will perform:<\/p>\n

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m., for those 21 years of age, and older.<\/p>\n

The comedy show only performs for shelter fundraising.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that there will be three acts, with intermissions at which time there will be raffle drawings, plus there will be silent auctions.<\/p>\n

She added that there will be a silent auction including tickets to the police departments upcoming Pam Tillis Concert in Jamestown. Other items include Theme Baskets, and a Ford clock donated by R.M. Stoudt.<\/p>\n

Raffles will include WeFest Tickets, with entries from the $10 purchase of a Prairie Paws Rescue mug<\/p>\n

Tickets are $10 each in advance from sponsors or $15 the day of the show, available at area veterinary clinics, R.M. Stoudt, Big Dog Country or from Prairie Paws Rescue volunteers.<\/p>\n

Kaye also notes that CMA,ACM and Grammy Award winner and Country Artist Miranda Lambert\u2019s MUTT NATION FOUNDATION\u2026has donated $3000 to Prairie Paws for the help of defraying the cost. Lambert is a friend of Kaye John. The fundraiser goal is between $7,000 and $8,000 for the van.<\/p>\n

Prairie Paws has monthly Meet and Greet events at Jamestown Tractor Supply company the 2nd Saturday of every month from 10am-2pm. She adds, the events have been a great way for people to come out and visit the pets.<\/p>\n

Right now Prairie Paws has 32 pets in their foster home based rescue.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown commemorated the completion of Annie’s House.<\/p>\n

The 11,500 square-foot facility is at Bottineau Winter Park that helps people of all abilities enjoy skiing and other outdoor activities.<\/p>\n

Mike Cerkowniak was hired by ACC to run the Annie’s House adaptive skills program. He said since the beginning of January, the facility has been busy every weekend with adaptive ski groups learning what the facility has to offer<\/p>\n

Nelson died on Sept. 11, 2001, during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.<\/p>\n

When her personal property from New York was returned to her parents, they found her laptop computer. The files contained “Annie’s 100,” a list of 36 items Nelson either wanted to be or to do. Included was “Buy a house in North Dakota.”<\/p>\n

She started a list of things she wanted to be or do. She didn’t live to complete the list, but one of her dreams on the list has become a reality, and others with adaptive needs can use it to enjoy the outdoors.<\/p>\n

On Monday afternoon, Nelson’s parents, Gary and Jenette Nelson, were at the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown for the commemoration.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Police in Minot are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death over the weekend.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say a 44-year-old woman was found injured at an apartment early Sunday, and she died of her injuries at a hospital later in the day.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A 47-year-old man who also was in the apartment was arrested for violating a judicial order. Formal charges were not immediately filed against him. Court documents show that the man pleaded guilty to simple assault-domestic violence charges twice last year.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A former camp counselor has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a Grand Forks hotel two years ago.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A jury in late October convicted 28-year-old Sean Kovalevich of gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor.\u00a0 Judge Sonja Clapp sentenced him on Monday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Kovalevich met the girl at a church camp near Belcourt on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. He was arrested in late 2012, after he started teaching science at the high school in Starkweather.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A woman who has been in prison for 14 months since she was arrested for threatening children and others on the Minot Air Force Base has been sentenced to time served.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tiffany Anderson, of Lompoc, Calif., pleaded guilty in November to three counts, including communicating a threat to destroy property by explosive. Authorities say Anderson called a bomb threat into the base on November 2012.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anderson is also accused of calling the early child Head Start program on the base in December 2012 and threatening to shoot children.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Anderson admitted to making the threats in an attempt to cause trouble for her former boyfriend, who was an airman stationed at the base.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot-area authorities arrested three people and confiscated a large amount of methamphetamine after a reported burglary that involved gunshots.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Ward County Sheriff’s Department says a Minot resident early Sunday reported that his residence had been burglarized by people who had fired shots at him, and that he had returned fire.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Deputies a short time later stopped a vehicle for speeding and determined the people inside were tied to the burglary. The deputies also seized nearly 1 pound of meth worth nearly $100,000 on the street.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Three men from the Minot and Balfour areas were arrested on drug and weapons charges. Formal charges were not immediately filed.<\/p>\n

CARSON, N.D. (AP) – A judge has officially dismissed one of the seven felony terrorizing charges filed against a white supremacist who unsuccessfully tried to take over a small North Dakota town.<\/p>\n

Judge David Reich signed the order on Friday, meeting the request of Grant County State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz. Schwarz earlier had asked for the count against 62-year-old Craig Cobb to be dropped, saying the evidence didn’t justify it.<\/p>\n

Cobb still could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the other six counts. He’s scheduled for trial in mid-July.<\/p>\n

Cobb moved to the town of Leith about two years ago and attempted to turn it into an all-white enclave. He’s accused of terrorizing residents with guns in mid-November. He has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – One of the five North Dakota snowmobilers who spent two frigid nights in northern Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains after becoming lost in a storm says he ate snow to stay hydrated and prayed that he would survive.<\/p>\n

The group was found safe Saturday afternoon after not being seen for two days. The snowmobilers are now back home in central North Dakota’s McLean County.<\/p>\n

Rod Schilling, Dustin Schlichting, James Murray, Jaren Murray and Chad Tweeten lost their way when a snowstorm hit while they were riding Thursday. Tweeten became separated from the others and spent two nights alone enduring what he called “savage” winds. He said he was determined not to die.<\/p>\n

Rescuers eventually found the men safe. Tweeten says he “can’t say enough” about their efforts.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Health Department says cases of sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise in the state.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The number of confirmed syphilis cases has risen from 15 to 24 since 2012, and the number of gonorrhea cases has climbed from 340 to 471 in the same time period.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lindsey VanderBusch with the Health Department’s Division of Disease Control says state officials are trying to raise awareness not only among the public but among doctors. The department is contacting physicians throughout the state to remind them to be on the lookout for STD symptoms when they see patients.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp (HYT’-kamp) says Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy has agreed to visit North Dakota. Heitkamp says McCarthy will join her in the Bismarck area on Friday to talk about such topics as coal and ethanol. Heitkamp says it’s an opportunity for North Dakotans to have their voices heard on EPA policies and proposals impacting the state.

(AP) – Some Democratic lawmakers want Governor Jack Dalrymple (DAHL’-rimp-ul) to call a special session of the Legislature to address problems tied to western North Dakota’s oil boom. The lawmakers contended in a letter to Dalrymple on Monday that development problems can’t wait for the start of the 2015 Legislature in January.

(AP) – The North Dakota Public Service Commission says it recently fined four companies for damages to gas lines and an electric cable that occurred during excavation projects in Mandan and Minot. Officials say the $1,000 and $2,000 fines highlight the importance of the state’s “Call Before You Dig” law. Residents and contractors can contact one-call by calling 1-800-795-0555.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Governors are quoting President Barack Obama as saying he expects to decide on the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline in the next couple of months.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, a Republican who supports the pipeline, said Obama was asked about Keystone Monday at a White House meeting with about 40 governors. Heineman and Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said Obama told governors he expects a decision “in the next couple of months,” but didn’t offer a specific timetable. Fallin, a Republican who chairs the National Governors Association, also supports Keystone.

\u00a0NEW YORK (AP) – Major League Baseball and its players have adopted a rule limiting home plate collisions this season, although the one-year rule experiment allows collisions if the catcher has the ball and is blocking the runner’s direct path to home plate, and if the catcher goes into the base path to field a throw to the plate. The rule bans players from deviating from a direct path to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher or other player covering home plate. A runner violating the rule will be out, even if the fielder drops the ball.<\/p>\n

(AP) – The Baltimore Orioles have finalized an $8 million, one-year contract with slugger Nelson Cruz, who hit .266 with 27 homers and 76 RBIs in 109 games for Texas last season. The 33-year-old Cruz served a 50-game suspension last year for violating baseball’s drug agreement. He turned down a $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Texas Rangers in November.

It all began in 1998 when, for the first time, players from the world’s top professional league took part in the Winter Olympics. For several years, the NHL has been thinking seriously about abandoning the Olympics because several owners are upset at seeing their multimillion-dollar investments playing for free, and sometimes getting injured, while their arenas sit empty for three weeks in February.

That would spare many of the superrich who make the bulk of their money from investments.

Such visits are extremely rare and Xi’s appearance was likely stage-managed to some degree.
