CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 20 PERCENT.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A WINTRY MIX WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO<br \/>\n\u00a0THURSDAY.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0A CHANCE OF SNOW WILL CONTINUE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The City of Jamestown is issuing a \u201cWater Service and Sewer Service Line freeze-up ADVISORY.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Frost depths are approaching and exceeding six (6) feet of depth in some spots, and the City is receiving an increasing number of reports of water and sewer service line freeze-ups occurring in both residential and commercial properties in City Limits.<\/p>\n<p>Reminding residents of the City of Jamestown that the service lines are their responsibility, the City offers the following advice to help prevent these freeze-ups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor your water temperature coming into the house by running the cold water continuously for about 3-5 minutes;<\/li>\n<li>Using any commercially available thermometer, test the water temperature \u2013 holding the thermometer in the water stream until the temperature stabilizes;<\/li>\n<li>If your water temperature is around 40\u00b0F or more, you should not have to take any special precautions unless you are planning on being away from home for several days;<\/li>\n<li>If your water temperature is 38\u00b0F to 40\u00b0F or less, you should consider letting the water run in one sink of your home \u2013 a stream about the diameter of a pencil\/pen;<\/li>\n<li>You may want to consider running the water and\/or having someone check on your house\/business if you are planning on being gone;<\/li>\n<li>Regardless of the temperature of your water service, you should also monitor your basement floor drains and other low-lying access points to the sanitary sewer to make sure they are running as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you should experience a freeze-up in the water or sanitary sewer service lines, please call one of the local plumbing firms to assist you in thawing out your service lines. Commissioner Magnuson said the evaluations should be done annual<b>ly<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CITY ADMINISTRATORS REPORT<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">David Schelkoph said 25% of the AMI meters have been installed, or 1,700. He added 46 days of electric load control were recorded this winter, with a saving of $120,000 per month. He reminded residents to expect more high utility bills with the unseasonable cold weather. He added that once the meters are read after being estimated, the next bills will likely be very high.<\/p>\n<p>He added the problem with frozen pipes continues with the depth of the frost line. He said some Valley City plumbers have gone to Jamestown to assist in thawing frozen pipes.<\/p>\n<p>CITY UPDATE &amp; COMMISSION REPORTS<\/p>\n<p>City Attorney Myhre said a few more recodifications will be coming before the City Commission. (AP) &#8211; State officials plan to meet this week with the operator of the trailers found in western North Dakota with potentially radioactive filter socks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0RP Services based in Riverton, Wyo., remains under investigation for improper storage, handling and transportation of the filter socks.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The filter socks are used to strain liquids in the oil production process and can become contaminated with naturally occurring radiation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The trailers leaking some material were reported to McKenzie County officials on Feb. 20. The report prompted state officials to send a radiation control team to the rural location southwest of Watford City.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The health department says the filters should not be landfilled anywhere in North Dakota. (AP) &#8211; A white supremacist who tried unsuccessfully to turn the small North Dakota town of Leith into an all-white enclave has returned his property to the city.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayor Ryan Schock tells The Associated Press that Craig Cobb deeded his six remaining lots back to the city at no charge. Schoep and Linder didn&#8217;t immediately return calls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Bismrack (CSi)\u00a0 The North Dakota Game &amp; Fish has announced that fish houses\u00a0must \u00a0be removed from North Dakota waters by midnight on March 15, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>State law requires permanent fish houses be removed by that time. The houses may still be used after March 15th as long as they are removed after their use.<\/p>\n<p>According to the State law, it is illegal to leave fish houses on any federal refuge land, state-owned land or managed land after March 15th.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown Jimmie men\u2019s basketball team won the first North Star Athletic Association championship at the Jamestown Civic Center, Monday night, defeating Dakota State 72-67.<\/p>\n<p>The North Star doesn\u2019t have an automatic bid to advance to national tournament competition because there are only five teams, this year. Next year with the addition of Dickinson State the tournament possibility is back.<\/p>\n<p>The Jimmie men end the season with a 17-12 record, with a 12-1 record in 2014 and a 9-1 record in the NSAA.<\/p>\n<p>Not ranked in the Top 25, the Jimmies will not have the opportunity to earn a spot in the NAIA national tournament.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Two mushers native to North Dakota are racing in the 42nd Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kelly Maixner was raised in Golva, and Ellen Halverson is formerly of the Thompson area. Both now live in Alaska.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 1,000-mile race from Anchorage to Nome got underway Sunday. Maixner was in 46th place mid-Tuesday, after leading for a time Monday, and Halverson was last out of 68 remaining mushers.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s the fourth Iditarod for Maixner and the fifth for Halverson. Bieber has pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license. (AP) &#8211; An asteroid will pass by the Earth tomorrow &#8212; coming even closer than the moon. But astronomers say it will pose no danger. The newly-discovered asteroid will still be an estimated 217,000 miles from Earth &#8212; or about nine-tenths of the distance between the moon and Earth.
