(Mar 6, 2014) for the James River Valley.

In the one month outlook, the region is favored below normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.

The next three month outlook shows below normal temperatures are favored with an equal or below normal, to normal or above normal precipitation.

The northern James River Basin is most likely to resist the early effects of warm weather, as the thicker snow pack will take more time to warm, ripen, and melt.

Overall, rivers and streams across the region are still holding an above normal volume ice. Even as many locations are expected to start receiving snowmelt runoff, the runoff volumes are not likely going to be enough to warrant undue concerns of ice jam related flooding in the short term. The most likely outcome will be in-stream rises which can make ice more hazardous for recreational users as opposed to lifting, breaking and mobilizing the ice which enhances risks for ice jam flooding.

Overall, the flood risk across the James River Basin remains near normal to somewhat elevated. Despite recent years where the greatest contributor to flood risk was readily apparent in the snow pack on the ground, this year the risk comes primarily from the frozen wet soils, and the possibility of spring rains on those nearly impermeable soils.

Jamestown (CSi) On Thursday morning, the Buffalo Valley Red Cross hosted the media, at the Gladstone Inn & Suites to highlight local hotels who provide rooms to those displaced by house/apartment fires.

Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter, Executive, Beth Dewald says, “We Simple cannot thank these lodging partners, enough. Red Cross volunteers respond to house/apartment fires, most often, leaving many families homeless, unexpectedly.

The “Rooms For Red Cross,” campaign, plays a key role in helping disaster victims get back on their feet, and give them a warm place to stay.
