Jamestown (CSi ) No injuries reported Friday in a house fire at 8171 31st Street,\u00a0 Southeast at around noon.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Rural Fire Department Chief, Rick Woehl says the fire started at a space heater in a basement bedroom.<\/p>\n

The fire was confined to the bedroom with smoke was reported throughout the house.<\/p>\n

The Rural Fire Department and had 12 firefighters and four trucks on the scene for about an hour and a half.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Over $2,400 was raised Saturday at the 9th annual Business Leaders Chili Cook-Off at the Buffalo Mall in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

$2,384 was raised for the James River Senior and Community Center\u2019s Meals on Wheels program.<\/p>\n

Buffalo Mall Administrative Assistant, Bev Dawson says preliminary figures show, 241 tickets were sold for the chill cook off, raising $1,584, with the wrist bands. $800 was raised in the RSVP+ bake sale, with those proceeds also going to the home delivered measls program.<\/p>\n

The Buffalo Mall won the People\u2019s Choice trophy in the chili cook-off. Central Auto Repair and Services raised the most money, and Classic Catering won the best decorated booth award and the most unique chili award.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Victory Christian School in Jamestown will host the first Winter Gala fundraising event.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, spokesperson Levi Taylor said, on Thursday, March 13, 2014 there will be dinner and entertainment in the University of Jamestown\u2019s, Reiland Fine Arts Center. Doors open at 5-p.m., dinner is at 5:30-p.m., with entertainment, by Deuces Wild, dueling pianos from Minneapolis at 7-p.m.<\/p>\n

Taylor said, while tickets to the dinner are sold out, there will be some tickets to the concert at the door at $35. For more information call Levi Taylor at 659-3130.<\/p>\n

Proceeds will go toward the general operation of the faith-based school, in addition to the tuition paid by parents.<\/p>\n

He said the school is located in the basement of Victory Lutheran Church in Southwest, Jamestown with various class days, and times available for pre-k and kindergarten age youth.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that there are three teachers and one teacher assistant at the school, with a low teacher to student ratio.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Backers of a proposed project in North Dakota that would turn a variety of sugar beets into ethanol are hoping to get commitments from growers by the end of the year.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota State University agriculture economics professor Dave Ripplinger, who’s helping developers with the project, is touring the state to gauge interest in growing the so-called energy or industrial beets. He says the turnout has been strong.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The goal is to open a plant by 2016 or 2017, but farmers map out their crop rotations at least two and perhaps four years in advance.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ndereimana was pulled from the Fargo South swimming pool during a physical education class. Teachers performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 66-year-old Gordon Pavlicek was flying the 1971 Piper Cherokee 140 about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he had to land in the Ward County field.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pavlicek was not injured and the plane suffered just mechanical damage.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The director of the North Dakota Pipeline Authority says proposed increases of tar sands oil from Canada likely won’t have an impact on the state’s soaring oil production.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Justin Kringstad says “both Alberta and North Dakota are growing sources of crude and both are looking at how to move that oil to market.”
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Calgary-based Enbridge has announced a $7 billion plan to increase the capacity of a crude oil pipeline that runs from Canada to Wisconsin. That project is in addition to the TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline that would run from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kringstad says refinery destinations for the two crudes may differ because heavy sour crude from Alberta’s tar sands is of lower-value and more difficult to refine than North Dakota’s light sweet crude.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota is renewing a contract with Tokai (toh-KY’) University in Japan to train pilots.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Grand Forks school has hosted more than 160 Tokai students since the first agreement eight years ago. This will be the third four-year contract between the schools.

\u00a0SURREY, N.D. (AP) – The water system in the north central North Dakota city of Surrey is getting a $3.2 million upgrade.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The City Council recently approved construction of a new water tower, a new water main and a pump station upgrade. The work is to be done over two years.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The State Water Commission is providing a $1.5 million grant to help mitigate the cost. The improvements are still expected to cost property owners about $200 annually for 10 years. However, the project should improve the city’s insurance rating and mean lower fire insurance premiums for residents.<\/p>\n

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williston State college point guard Trey Dickerson plans to play for the University of Iowa the next three years.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot freshman from New York City gave a verbal commitment to the NCAA Division I Hawkeyes over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Williston State says Dickerson had received interest from numerous schools and offers from Iowa, Nebraska, Iona, Washington, Washington State, Arkansas, Alabama-Birmingham, St. Louis, and Fordham.<\/p>\n

Williston State is a two-year junior college in northwestern North Dakota. Dickerson this season helped lead the Tetons to a 26-5 regular season record and a Mon-Dak Conference title. He was named most valuable player in the conference, with an average of 20 points, six assists and four rebounds per game<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Austin Hollins had 14 points for Minnesota in an 81-63 victory over Penn State yesterday to set up a rematch between these teams in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. DeAndre Mathieu led the Golden Gophers with 16 points and six assists. Minnesota and Penn State will play on Thursday in Indianapolis.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) – Public safety officials are getting ready to release more details about enhanced security for this year’s Boston Marathon.<\/p>\n

Local, state and federal agencies, the Boston Athletic Association and leaders from the eight communities that make up the marathon route are expected to reveal the new security measures during a news conference Monday at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency’s headquarters in Framingham.<\/p>\n

Authorities have been meeting for months to come up with a plan to beef up security for the April 21 marathon following last year’s deadly attack. Three people were killed and more than 260 injured after two bombs exploded near the finish line of the race.<\/p>\n

This year, police are expecting about 36,000 runners and up to a million spectators.<\/p>\n
