At the end of the Jamestown Public School Board meeting Monday Sept 17, 2012, it was announced that Jamestown Public School classes would not be held as normal on Thursday Sept\u00a0 20 to allow staff & students to attend the funeral service for Jane Aune<\/a>, who died at her home Sunday, September 16, 2012 ending a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.<\/p>\n

It was indicated that the District would\u00a0announce details of the\u00a0plans via the phone calling system to parents\/students, \u00a0and release the full details Tuesday morning.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

NO School on September 20th<\/sup> , 2012.<\/p>\n

Out of respect for the family of Jane Aune, the Jamestown Public Schools will be closed on September 20th<\/sup> to allow staff to attend the funeral. Jamestown Public School Central Office will be open.<\/a><\/p>\n

This day will be made up, that will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n

\u00a0At Monday’s School Board meeting….<\/p>\n

Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Robert Toso announced that he will retire at the end of this school year.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made official at the school board, meeting, and the board unanimously approved Toso\u2019s resignation letter.<\/p>\n

School Board President, Roy Musland said the board has taken steps to begin looking for the next superintendent, working with Toso to find his replacement.<\/p>\n

Toso has spent 37 years as an educator, as a teacher, administrator and superintendent.<\/p>\n

He joined the Jamestown school district twelve years ago as an administrator and has been superintendent since 2006.<\/p>\n

Toso highlighted improvements in facilities, technology and the overall performance of the district that have taken place during his tenure.<\/p>\n

Toso said, in the future specifically, Toso pointed to preparing for a new state assessment in the spring of 2015.<\/p>\n

He also pointed to adopting Common Core standards for next school year.<\/p>\n

Other improvements concern overall reading proficiency, developing a statewide pre-K program and balancing the district\u2019s budget.<\/p>\n

He also addressed the need to improve Jamestown Public Schools facilities.<\/p>\n
