Proceeds from from the sale is planned to go toward a historical or heritage area in the new library<\/p>\n<p>The James River Valley Library System will apply for grants for a new bookmobile and electronic devices.<\/p>\n<p>The bookmobile grant request would be for $74,000 from U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. Should the grant request be accepted, the current 18-year-old bookmobile would be replaced.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Public School Board received an update from JSDC&#8217;s Holly Miller. and University of Jamestown professor Fadi Fawaz on the ACT Work Ready Communities pilot program.<\/p>\n<p>Stutsman County is one of only 10 counties in the nation that have been accepted into the program, which issues National Career Readiness Certificates to students who pass three one-hour tests in applied mathematics, reading for information and locating information.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Miller said, &#8220;We&#8217;re getting close to making this program live in our community and that is when the public school system, the local university and the employers can utilize this program. Right now what we&#8217;re working on is a host site, potentially the North Dakota Job Service office will be our first host site. And then we will be bringing forth to the city and county a possible budget for the next three years to carry through and see how this program operates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fawaz said the program could be used by employees who want to improve their resumes, students who choose not to go to college and enter the workforce and unemployed individuals who want to get back to work.<\/p>\n<p>No timeline on when the program will start was given.<\/p>\n<p>In other business, the board heard information and was requested to give feedback on a possible Bring Your Own Device policy which would allow students to use iPads or similar devices to assist them in school or to be used in class projects.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was recorded by CSi 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, with showings to start on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corportation (JSDC) is updating it policies and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>JSDC Board members and staff met with representatives of KLJ Monday to review existing documents and discuss possible changes.<\/p>\n<p>The new proposed policies and procedures would list marketing as part of the JSDC&#8217;s normal procedures.<\/p>\n<p>The board members discussing possible new policies didn&#8217;t have any firm suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>The draft document will restructure the old policy and procedure document to make it more user friendly, and include any revisions discussed during the meetings, and is expected to be prepared within two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) A farmer has donated to the Jamestown Rural Fire Department to help purchase a new pair of structural firefighting gloves for each fire department team member.<\/p>\n<p>With assistance from America\u2019s Farmers Grow Communities, Michael Carlson donated $2,500 to the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s Farmers Grow Communities offers farmers a chance to win $2,500, which is then donated to a farmer\u2019s nonprofit of choice.<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception the organization has donated over $16 million dollars to more than 6,500 nonprofit organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Another round of North Daktoa meetings have been schedule for farmers to attend informational meetings on the economics of industrial beet production at five locations across central North Dakota this week.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings will provide farmers with economic information and tools to help them decide if they want to grow industrial beets.<\/p>\n<p>A Valley City meeting is set for Tuesday March 18, 2014 from 9-a.m., to 11-a.m., at the Eagles Club.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Tuesday the 18<sup>th<\/sup> a Jamestown meeting will be at the North Dakota Farmers Union from 1-p.m. to 3-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Other meetings<\/p>\n<p>Carrington \u2014 9am to 11 am., Wednesday, March 19, Carrington Research Extension Center.<\/p>\n<p>* Cando \u2014 1p to 3p., Wednesday, March 19, Towner County Extension Service office.<\/p>\n<p>* Langdon \u2014 1p to 3p., Thursday, March 20, Cavalier County Courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>The development of beets as a new industrial crop is a partnership between Green Vision Group based in Fargo and Heartland Renewable Energy based in Muscatine, Iowa. The research component is led by NDSU.<\/p>\n<p>Industrial beets, also called energy beets, are varieties of beets bred for industrial sugars that can be converted to a wide range of bio-fuels and chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers voiced strong interest in growing beets for industrial purposes during January meetings, but indicated that more information, especially on economics, was needed before making a decision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Great Lakes Airlines will suspend service to two more North Dakota locations by the end of the month.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Wyoming-based company says it is suspending service to the Dickinson and Williston airports. It pulled out of Devils Lake and Jamestown at the end of January.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Great Lakes has said it is pulling out of several regional airports because of problems retaining pilots. The company has cited new federal rules that require co-pilots to log 1,500 flight hours before they can work for commercial airlines. They previously required 250 hours.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new regulations have also affected Great Lakes flights in Pierre, S.D. The shortage of pilots caused about 17 percent of flights to be cancelled in February in Pierre.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police in eastern North Dakota say former attorney general Nicholas John Spaeth (spayth) was found dead this weekend.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say officers found the body of the 64-year-old man on Sunday at a home in Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators say the cause and manner of death have not been determined, but they do not suspect foul play.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Spaeth was a Democrat who served as attorney general from 1985 to 1992. He lost his bid for North Dakota governor in 1992.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says Spaeth modernized the operations of the attorney general&#8217;s office. Heitkamp is a Democrat from North Dakota who became attorney general after Spaeth left office.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple says Spaeth &#8220;faithfully&#8221; served North Dakotans. Dalrymple was a member of the state&#8217;s legislature during Spaeth&#8217;s tenure as attorney general.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities have identified two 22-year-old men who died in a Williams County crash involving a pickup truck and a dump truck.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol says pickup driver Michael Rameden, of Ray, and passenger Kyle Keller, of Bismarck, died at the scene shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday. A third passenger, 24-year-old Blaze Unruh, was flown to a Minot hospital with serious injuries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The patrol says the pickup truck ran a stop sign and collided with the driver&#8217;s side of the dump truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and a county road, about 13 miles west of Williston.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The dump truck driver was not hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A judge has set bond at $1 million for a 19-year-old Fargo man charged with murder.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wade Garrett turned himself in and was arrested Friday night in the death of 26-year-old Rolandas House, whose body was discovered near a grocery store. Police say House was stabbed multiple times.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court documents allege that House had stolen money and marijuana from Garrett.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Garrett made his initial court appearance Monday but did not enter a plea. He is due back in court April 16.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Fargo police lieutenant who killed himself was on the verge of being fired.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nPolice documents indicate Lt. Jeff Skuza was under investigation for failing to report the accidental discharge of his Taser on Feb. 14. The report says Skuza attempted to cover it up by hiding the cartridge and wires, and then took part in the investigation of who was responsible.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The department&#8217;s three deputy chiefs had recommended that Skuza be fired. A letter from Police Chief Keith Ternes says Skuza&#8217;s deception was &#8220;deliberate,&#8221; &#8220;surprising&#8221; and &#8220;disappointing.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say Skuza called police dispatchers a week ago and asked them to send officers to a cemetery south of Fargo, where his body was discovered. They say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u3000\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Texas man says he will plead guilty in a wide-ranging investigation into the synthetic drug deaths of two teens in North Dakota and Minnesota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 John Polinski, of Houston, is charged in federal court with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death. The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fifteen people have been charged in the investigation dubbed &#8220;Operation Stolen Youth,&#8221; and all but Polinski have entered guilty pleas.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the hallucinogens caused the June 2012 deaths of 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and 17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neil Fulton, who heads the public defender&#8217;s office in the Dakotas, filed a change of plea notice Monday for Polinski. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger has announced a public education campaign aimed at reminding people to bring identification to the polls to prove they are eligible to vote.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The theme of the campaign is that voting in North Dakota is &#8220;Easy as Pie,&#8221; which emphasizes that every effort is being made to ensure that all eligible voters are able to exercise their right to vote.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State law has required voters to provide ID since 2004.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The advertising campaign is being paid for with a $700,000 federal grant as part of the Help America Vote Act.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota officials have launched a marketing campaign aimed at filling the scores of unfilled jobs in the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley and the state&#8217;s Economic Development Foundation unveiled the so-called &#8220;Find the Good Life in North Dakota&#8221; campaign Monday at the state Capitol in Bismarck.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The $800,000 campaign is being paid equally by tax-supported state funds and a donation by an oil company. Costello served as VCSU offensive coordinator the past three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Day just completed his third season at VCSU. He served as wide receivers coach in 2012 and 2013, and was running backs coach in 2011. The Gophers were excluded from the 64-team field when it was finalized yesterday. They&#8217;ll play instead in the WNIT for a second straight season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0UNDATED (AP) &#8211; Connecticut is the top seed in the NCAA women&#8217;s basketball tournament as the 34-0 Huskies try for a record ninth NCAA title breaking a tie with Tennessee for most all-time. Notre Dame, Tennessee and South Carolina have received the other No. 1 seeds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Former University of North Dakota head football coach Chris Mussman has landed a job as an assistant at St. Cloud State.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota school has hired Mussman as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.<\/p>\n<p>UND fired Mussman last November after 14 seasons, the last six as head coach. He compiled an overall record of 31-34 during the school&#8217;s transition from the NCAA Division II ranks to Division I.
