(CSi) \u00a0 Casselton aviator, Jim Maroney has died in an aircraft accident south of Knoxville, Tennessee,\u00a0\u00a0in the Cherokee National Forest.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred on Sunday as he was flying to participate in a Florida airshow.<\/p>\n

Fargo AirSho\u00a0\u00a0Committee Co-chairman\u00a0 Dick Walstad says, Maroney was flying his \u201cSuper\u00a0\u00a0Chipmunk, aircraft \u00a0when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n

Maroney, who lived in Milwaukee,was a former squadron and Group Commander for the Happy Hooligans,\u00a0119th Wing of the Air National Guard in Fargo, retiring \u00a0from the\u00a0Guard in 2002.<\/p>\n

He also was a Chief Pilot for Delta Airlines.<\/p>\n

The cause of the crash is under investigation.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Board will look at having its new logo put on the southwest Jamestown water tower.<\/p>\n

At the annual meeting Monday, it was pointed out that the BCTF will announce its new branding and logo at a public gathering set for May 9, 2014, from 4-7-p.m. at the Jamestown Arts Center.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown City Council in April is likely to decide on the color and if any logo will be included in the new paint scheme.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen told the board that there is time for the BCTF logo to be considered by the City Council, but the timeline doesn\u2019t fit with the BCTF Board\u2019s plan for the brand launch.<\/p>\n

Andersen said she would prefer to see a logo go up now, instead of painting the tower one color and putting up the name “Jamestown.”<\/p>\n

The base cost of the paint scheme is a white tower, with “Jamestown” in black letter.<\/p>\n

In other business, the BCTF Board approved reducing the number of board members from 15 to 12, allowing the board to have enough peopleattend to its next regular meeting in April to conduct business.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) – The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program announces that the University of Jamestown\u2019s cafeteria operations will provide food for the Daily Bread program. Aramark, the University\u2019s provider of cafeteria services will rescue prepared food and freeze this food for pick up and distribution by the Daily Bread representatives.<\/p>\n

The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program has been offering free frozen surplus meals at its first location, the Ave Maria Village for about two years. At the Village, these surplus meals have been frozen and placed in a freezer for use by Ave Maria employees. At times, this food has also been delivered to the Salvation Army and Community Action. Jamestown Regional Medical Center is also contributing frozen surplus food on a small scale.<\/p>\n

Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown Steering Committee member, Tyler Lamp says, “We know that there is a hunger problem in the Jamestown area. In order to meet this need, we are seeking more food suppliers in the area that will rescue food for freezing. We arrange for distribution of this frozen food by using RSVP volunteers. The RSVP volunteers are very eager to help us on this endeavor.”<\/p>\n

“The federal \u2018Good Samaritan\u2019 law protects the supplier of this food. The kitchens that prepare this food must be ND Department of Health certified kitchens. The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program is patterned on the Daily Bread programs that have been operating successfully for years in Fargo and Bismarck.”<\/p>\n

Aramark, Food Service Director, Mark Kneeskern says, “We are excited to begin to supply Jamestown\u2019s Daily Bread Program. I have participated in similar programs in other cities where I have worked. It is a good partnership that allows us to help solve the local hunger problem. We feel good knowing that this food will be used to feed hungry people, instead of being thrown away. The Daily Bread-Jamestown program is very simple for us. We prepare the food for freezing and then place it in the Daily Bread \u2013Jamestown freezer. They take care of the rest of the distribution logistics.”<\/p>\n

“We see a large need in the community for this program,” said Lamp. “Our mission is to have all available food rescued and used to feed hungry individuals in the area. We are extremely grateful to Aramark and the University of Jamestown community for contributing to this program.”<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck woman accused of helping hold another woman against her will has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n

Thirty-five-year-old Shanna Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) is one of three people accused of holding the woman at a Mandan home for more than a day in early February and threatening to kill her and her children if she wouldn’t take the blame for drug charges against 43-year-old Timothy Beiers.<\/p>\n

Stenehjem is charged with felony restraint and terrorizing and misdemeanor simple assault. Her trial is scheduled June 26.<\/p>\n

Beiers earlier pleaded not guilty to felonious restraint and terrorizing and is scheduled for trial May 6.<\/p>\n

Thirty-five-year-old Donny Wagner is to enter pleas to felonious restraint, terrorizing and aggravated assault on April 14. He’s accused of using a stun gun on the woman.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Law enforcement authorities in North Dakota will extradite a man to South Dakota where he is wanted in connection with an attempted homicide.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stark County Judge Dann Greenwood on Monday authorized the extradition.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The South Dakota Attorney General’s office says the 38-year-old Sisseton man was arrested Sunday afternoon in the southwestern North Dakota town of Beach.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 South Dakota authorities are expected to pick up the man from a jail in Dickinson within 10 days.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The fire chief of an eastern North Dakota town who led the response to a fiery train derailment is scheduled to testify before Congress.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Casselton Fire Chief Tim McLean has been invited by North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp to speak before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs subcommittee about training programs for first responders.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The derailment happened about a mile outside of Casselton on Dec. 30 when a train hauling oil from western North Dakota crashed into a grain car that had fallen onto the track. There were no injuries.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp, who is a member of the subcommittee, says McLean will share his on-the-ground experience in responding to emergencies and talk in detail about the aftermath of the derailment and fire.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Land Board has awarded about $8 million in state oil-impact grants to Watford City and the McKenzie County school district.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say the money awarded Monday will be used for street, water and sewer infrastructure that will support the construction of a new high school and residential development.\u00a0 The Land Board also committed another $3 million in grants next year to help cover the utility construction costs.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Land Board will award a total of $240 million in impact grants through 2015 to counties experiencing rapid growth from the state’s oil boom.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State wildlife officials are seeking the public’s help in locating bald eagle nests in North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Game and Fish Department officials say they are looking for the locations of eagle’s nests, not individual eagle sightings. Officials say eagles are actively incubating eggs in March and April.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sandra Johnson is a conservation biologist with the department. She says the nests are easy to distinguish because of their large size.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Johnson estimates that there are about 120 active bald eagle nests in North Dakota, possibly more.

Valley City State has announced that women\u2019s basketball coach Kathy Hanek has resigned after one season. The Vikings went 13-12 last season and 3-5 in North Star Athletic Association.<\/p>\n

Hanek had been the head coach for one season at Miles City Community College (Mont.) prior to getting the VCSU job.<\/p>\n

But the Vikings started the season 1-3 then lost four of their last five games to finish the season<\/p>\n

\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Dickinson State University men’s basketball coach Ty Orton is resigning to take a fundraising position.

Security forces killed the single suspect late yesterday as the base was briefly put on lockdown. Both the civilian and the sailor were male. Officials say the scene is secure and base operations are normal, with counselors available.

The Port Authority condemned the jump as selfish and endangering the public.
