Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 19, 2012) — The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out about 3:45 Wednesday afternoon to a crop field fire.<\/p>\n

The location was in the Eldridge area.<\/p>\n

No other information was available late Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man shot by Jamestown police officers after he came out of his Southwest Jamestown apartment building carrying a shotgun says in a civil lawsuit he never aimed the gun at anyone and police used excessive force.<\/p>\n

Michael Partlow survived the September 2010 shooting.<\/p>\n

Partlow’s attorneys say their client made suicidal threats after a night of drinking, and his sister called police.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit says Partlow was bending down to place the gun on the ground when police opened fire.<\/p>\n

The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, names officers Joseph Stadler, Michael Craig and Sidney Mann, was well as the city of Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Jamestown City Attorney, Ken Dalsted, did not respond to requests for an interview.<\/p>\n

A jury later convicted Partlow of terrorizing, but found he did not attempt to<\/p>\n

inflict bodily injury.<\/p>\n

Partlow was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and five years of supervised probation.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 19, 2012) — Anyone with a metal detector, with headphones, unit, is asked to contact, Barnes County Airport Authority Chairman, Dennis Helland, or the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The equipment will be used by the Federal Aviation Administration in their investigation into the plane crash that took the life of Bob Odegaard on September 7, 2012, while he was practicing for a Valley City air show that was to be held the next day.<\/p>\n

The metal detector is needed to locate a digital camera memory card.<\/p>\n

The camera was mounted on Odegaard\u2019s plane.<\/p>\n

The search for the card is planned, next week.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 19, 2012) \u2014 Kim Diede, at the Buffalo Mall thanks the community for supporting this year\u2019s Stuff The Bus drive, to donate school supplies to less fortunate children.<\/p>\n

Thank You\u2019s went out to cash donors, including Jamestown Service Clubs, local businesses, Community Members<\/em> ,and Eventide at Hi-Acres, “Dream Team, ” along with the VFW and Ladies Auxilary, and Bison 6 Cinema.<\/p>\n

She says donations are still coming in.<\/p>\n

Donations were collected at the Buffalo Mall, Riddles Jewelry, Gate City Bank, Anytime Fitness & Top Designers.<\/p>\n

She explained how cash donations are managed.<\/p>\n

Every week the school supplies were counted to arrive at the exact number of notebooks, pencils, and etc.<\/p>\n

The week leading up to school the mall was in contact with RaeAnn at community action to see how many were on her needs list, including ages and genders.<\/p>\n

The mall then shops for the items low on, such as pencils, (50 received).<\/p>\n

Notebooks and water paints were also low.<\/p>\n

Calculators and flash drives were purchased. (They are higher ends items and are more expensive)<\/p>\n

Backpacks range from $8.00-23.00 and 150 were needed.<\/p>\n

As of 2 weeks ago there were 61.<\/p>\n

A phone call from Gate City Bank inquired how the drive was going, and the bank offered to donate 80 backpacks.<\/p>\n

More backs came in since receiving their donation, reaching the goal of 150.<\/p>\n

Ms. Diede added, the need in the community is high.<\/p>\n

The families on the list are hard working families working 2 jobs to make ends meet.<\/p>\n

She said the Stuff the Bus Committee is so grateful for having a wonderful community.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Fans of Elvis Presley are invited to a Jamestown show, highlight the entertainers memorabilia, and a sale of items obtain from Elvis\u2019 Graceland mansion, in Memphis.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jack Gorman of Jamestown said, he\u2019s followed Elvis\u2019 career and attended hundreds of Elvis concerts.<\/p>\n

Jack and his wife, Betty, have brought back from Graceland memorabilia including jumpsuits and other Elvis items.<\/p>\n

Gorman said Elvis souvenirs can be purchased at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jamestown, October 5,6, 2012 from 10-a.m., to 8-p.m., both days.<\/p>\n

The costs of the souvenirs range in price from $4 to $25.<\/p>\n

Also available will be photos of Elvis, taken by Gorman, from Elvis\u2019 last concert, at a cost of $5 each.<\/p>\n

Also showing will be rare concert footage of Elvis on a big screen T.V. along with a video of a private tour of Graceland.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi -T.V. News Sept 19, 2012) \u2013 The City of Jamestown is in the process of developing a planning Ordinance, having recently taken public input, and reviewing planning Ordinances in place by other North Dakota cities.<\/p>\n

At Tuesday\u2019s Building, Planning & Zoning Committee, the consensus of the committee members was to have a draft of an Ordinance for a review by the committee.<\/p>\n

A Jamestown meeting concerning planning was held Wednesday afternoon (Sept 19, 2012), with members of the Jamestown City Council, Stutsman County Commission, and the Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation, with Cindy Gray from SRF Consulting.<\/p>\n

Ms. Gray, a planner (American Institute of Certified Planners)<\/p>\n

with over 27 years of experience, discussed the role of City\/County development planning.<\/p>\n

Planning topics included:<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Century Code and the manner in which it addresses planning and zoning for cities and their extraterritorial area.<\/p>\n

The role of planners and the relationship between planning staff and elected officials, planning commissions, citizens, developers, and other city staff or consultants<\/p>\n

Master Planning of development areas<\/p>\n

Ms. Gray addressed the potential growth from the planned Cenex Harvest States Spiritwood Nitrogen Project.<\/p>\n

She says a challenge is short-term housing for construction workers and the permanent housing for the plant\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n

She suggested adding a temporary trailer park or other mobile housing..<\/p>\n

Gray pointed out that the construction workers are more apt to rent a home or apartment while the permanent workers at the plant are more likely to buy homes.<\/p>\n

Mayor Katie Andersen said the city is trying to address that problem of experiencing growth.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A Texas man has pleaded not guilty in
\nNorth Dakota to assaulting a sheriff’s deputy, escaping custody and
\nburglarizing a farmstead.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say 23-year-old Dakota Calder was stopped near
\nNorthwood on suspicion of being drunk and in control of a vehicle
\non July 13.<\/p>\n

They allege he slipped out of his handcuffs, assaulted
\nthe deputy and fled on foot, eventually being apprehended in a
\nwheat field.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Calder allegedly stole shoes and beer from a shop on an area
\nfarmstead before he was caught.
\nCalder told a judge he is in North Dakota working in the western
\noil patch and commuting from an apartment in the eastern town of
\nNorthwood because it is cheaper.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 74-year-old West Fargo landlord
\nsentenced to two years in prison for running over an ex-tenant with
\nhis Hummer has appealed to the North Dakota Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

Alois Vetter argues that jurors who last fall convicted him of aggravated
\nassault and reckless endangerment should not have been allowed to
\nconsider the vehicle a dangerous weapon in the February 2011
\nincident.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court will rule later.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The chairman of North Dakota’s campaign to
\nmake marijuana legal as a pain reliever says he’s hoping the issue
\ndoesn’t fade away.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo state Rep. Steve Zaiser says he won’t be leading another
\npetition drive. But he says he believes other activists will take
\nup the cause.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An initiative in favor of medical marijuana was kept off North
\nDakota’s November ballot because of alleged petition fraud.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zaiser appealed to the North Dakota Supreme Court, but the high
\ncourt refused to intervene in his favor.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Medical marijuana is legal in 17 states, and it’s going on the
\nballot elsewhere this fall.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zaiser believes people across the country are becoming more
\naccepting of the idea of using marijuana as a pain reliever instead

\nbudget estimates that predict the state’s general fund will have a
\n$1.6 billion budget surplus by June.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature’s Budget Section is getting a briefing on the
\nnumbers Thursday.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Budget Section includes members of the North Dakota House
\nand Senate appropriations committees.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 House Appropriations Chairman Jeff Delzer of Underwood says he’s
\nhoping the numbers aren’t too optimistic.<\/p>\n

He says previous surplus estimates have turned out to be accurate.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The numbers count on a continuing increase in North Dakota’s oil
\nproduction.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state is now producing about 674,000 barrels a day.<\/p>\n

The budget estimates assume production will rise to about 850,000
\nbarrels a day within two years.<\/p>\n

\nenforcement of oversize and overweight trucks is at a record level.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Troopers say the state has collected $2.1 million from in
\nenforcement penalties so far this year, compared with $1.9 million
\nfor all of 2011.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Highway Patrol Capt. Eldon Mehrer (MARE) says the patrol has
\nenforced more than 1,300 overload violations this year, which also
\nis more than all of last year.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Troopers say 14 of the patrol’s 22 motor carrier troopers are
\nstationed in the oil patch region of western North Dakota.

\nuniversity system has ordered Williston State College to stop
\nhousing foreign workers.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Businesses have been relying on the foreign exchange students to
\nfill fast-food and other jobs in the oil boom town.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, university system
\nchancellor Hamid Shirvani says housing foreign workers at the
\ncollege “raises legitimate safety and security concerns.” He says
\nit’s a misuse of the school’s facilities.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 College President Ray Nadolny says the contract with
\nMaryland-based United Work and Travel to house the workers ends
\nthis month.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nadolny says the college housed about 200 workers annually. The
\nworkers were foreign college students who came to the U.S. under an
\ninternational cultural exchange program.<\/p>\n

\nthe North Dakota Trade Office for allegedly breaking agreements he
\nmade while with the company.<\/p>\n

The complaint filed by Mattracks alleges that Dean Gorder violated confidentiality and noncompetition agreements he signed at the time of his hiring that barred him from using contacts or information he gleaned as an
\nemployee to benefit another company.<\/p>\n
