Jamestown (CSi) This is Mrs. North Dakota America Pageant Weekend in Jamestown –April 10-12, 2014, with the final pageant show scheduled for<\/p>\n

Saturday at 7:00 PM<\/strong> at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

Mary Schwartzkopf, of Jamestown, Mrs. North Dakota-America 2011 and the state pageant director, is leading the festivities with her staff and Sister Queens (called the Queen Team) during the pageant weekend.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s venue theme features the movie, “Frozen” as well as musical vocal dynamics from the current Mrs. North Dakota-America Aly Downs.<\/p>\n

Local titleholders from across the state of North Dakota will be competing for the state crown having arrived in Jamestown on Thursday, April 10th<\/sup>, 2014. During the pageant weekend, the ladies will be on location, participating in a photo-shoot in the city of Jamestown, visiting local attractions and meeting with pageant sponsors. This year, there will be an “In-House” Fashion show planned that Friday afternoon at Leanne\u2019s Bridal in Jamestown with the local titleholders and Mrs. NDA 2014 modeling formal gowns and bridal wear that the store features.<\/p>\n

Mrs. ND-America 2013, Aly Downs was interviewing locally to promote the pageant event on Friday morning, April 11th<\/sup>, in Jamestown, ND, as she and some of the other contestants were on The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, along with Ms. Schwartzkoph.<\/p>\n

The Mrs. North Dakota ~ America Pageant is the official state preliminary to the national event. It is also a stage from which women in North Dakota can promote family values, women causes and local charities. Mrs. ND- America state pageant is for married women that are at least 19 years of age \u2013 no age limit! Mrs. America<\/b><\/a> will be holding an online contest called “Fabulous Face” which will feature the winner from each state on line that you can purchase votes for. (The proceeds will go to Charitable Causes). This year they will include an online page with the “First Runner-up Delegates” from every state that will have their photo to be voted on. The First Runner-up who wins with the most online votes will be an additional delegate at the Mrs. America 2014 as the National First Runner-up Winner, all expenses paid. Jamestown (CSi) The James River Humane Society will host and Open House\/Cookout, planned for May 17, 2014 from 11-a.m. to 2-p.m., at the location off the I-94 Bloom Exit.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Matt Opsahl said the event will give residents the opportunity to see recent improvements to the shelter, as well as viewing animals available for adoption.<\/p>\n

He said that currently there are several dogs, and 19 cats available for adoption.<\/p>\n

He added that volunteers are always welcome to assist with chores, and to socialize with the animals, and walk the dogs. Also that day a $35 discount will be offered on adoptions.<\/p>\n

Those attending may give a free will donation, for shelter operations.<\/p>\n

A drop box for the shelter is at Hugo\u2019s in Jamestown for supplies needed at the shelter, and features photos of some of the animals currently available for adoption.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther reports that the investigation into the house fire that occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 915 5th Avenue Southeast in Jamestown indicates the cause was unattended cooking.\u00a0 He says the Fire Investigation Conclusion is based on information collected from firefighters, photos taken at the scene and information collected from interviews.\u00a0\u00a0 He says, this concludes the fire investigation, and this fire investigation would be considered to be closed unless further evidence is obtained.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Regional Medical Center Foundation held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Monday, April 7, <\/sup>2014 .The event is held in honor of the commitment that volunteers have to JRMC and the Foundation.<\/p>\n

Linda Greer was named the JRMC Auxilian Volunteer of the Year. This honor was voted on by her peers, the JRMC Auxiliary, who recognized Linda\u2019s outstanding service over the past year. Greer volunteers in the JRMC Clinic, co-manages the JRMC Gift Shoppe and spends many hours assisting in fundraising on behalf of JRMC.<\/p>\n

Other individuals honored at this year\u2019s banquet were: 100 hours of service<\/i>: Diane Helmstetler, Lynell Madsoe, Vickie Poland, Charlotte Rivers, Marlene Schulte, Maris Thompson, JoAnn Volrath, Michelle Walker; 500 hours of service<\/i>: Audrey Barnes, Linda Greer, Marlene Humphrey, Carol Lawrence, Joy Neustel, Ella Thoms; 1000 plus hours of service<\/i>: Marlys Perleberg, Carol Splonskowski. Jamestown (CSi) The Annual LaMoure County Suicide Prevention Walk, will be on Sunday May 14, 2014, start with registration at 1-p.m., at the Kulm Community Center, on 1st<\/sup> Avenue Southeast.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, an organizer of the event, Caroline Homan said, teams or individual walkers may participate in the walk, which raises funds for education and outreach materials promoting suicide awareness.<\/p>\n

She said more importantly it offers a network of support as we remember lost loved ones.<\/p>\n

GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) – A woman had to be rescued in the northeastern North Dakota town of Minto after driving into floodwaters.

\nU.S. Highway 81 was shut down due to ice jam flooding on the Forest River on Thursday but the woman drove into the water anyway.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More than a dozen homes were surrounded by water Thursday, but the Walsh County Sheriff’s Office said early Friday that the situation was calming down. The river peaked Thursday and was dropping Friday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Transportation Department said Highway 81 was reopened Friday morning after floodwaters receded.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The Red River Regional Bomb Squad safely destroyed two homemade explosive devices found in West Fargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the devices were found along a city street Thursday afternoon. Authorities determined that they were made with common fireworks sparklers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Historical Society is still negotiating the purchase price of the boyhood home of famous band leader Lawrence Welk.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The group voted 6-5 in January to buy the Strasburg homestead from Welk’s nieces. But a final sale price was not negotiated.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The purchase agreement also was contingent on negotiated repairs being made to the property, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature last year included $100,000 in the Historical Society’s budget for the purchase but lawmakers stipulated that repairs must first be made.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The goal is to reduce the potential for wildfires in the heavily wooded recreation area along the Missouri River. Open burning including campfires is banned until further notice on both sides of the river.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Oahe Wildlife Management Area covers more than 25 square miles in Burleigh, Emmons, and Morton counties. The area is popular among anglers, campers and other outdoor recreationists.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University senior guard Taylor Braun has accepted an invitation to play in the 2014 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Virginia next week.

ORLAND, Calif. (AP) – The California Highway Patrol says it does not yet know what caused a FedEx tractor-trailer to veer across a grassy highway median and slam into a bus, killing 10 people. A spokesman says investigators will try to determine whether the FedEx driver fell asleep, experienced mechanical failure or lost control because of a separate collision on the southbound side of the freeway. They will also look at roadway and weather conditions. The bus was carrying more than 40 high school students on their way to visit Humboldt State University when it was struck by the FedEx tractor-trailer. The two drivers were among those killed.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – Safety advocates say rules to make crashed buses easier for passengers to escape have not been implemented despite a recommendation from accident investigators 15 years ago. The National Transportation Safety Board recommended in February 1999 that federal regulators issue new standards for large buses so that after an accident passengers can easily open windows and emergency exits.

Francis asked forgiveness from victims, and said the church must do more to protect the young.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House says President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama paid just over $98,000 in taxes on income of nearly half a million dollars last year. The couple’s 2013 income tax returns were posted on the White House website four days before the tax filing deadline. The 42-page return shows the president and first lady reported donating more than 12 percent of their adjusted gross income to 32 different charities. Their largest charitable gift was nearly $9,000 to the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House supports military families.

As a result, authorities in Jackson have downgraded their evacuation order for some businesses below the hill.
