News) &#8212; The James River Humane Society has fundraisers planned in the community.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u2019s (Sept 21, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Jennifer Barnard said, the Lloyd\u2019s Motors fundraiser in in progress, running through October.<\/p>\n<p>They are donating a portion of profits from cars sold, to the Humane Society.<\/p>\n<p>A bake sale is set for October 13<sup>, <\/sup>2012, at the Buffalo Mall from 10a-2pm.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in donating items for the sale, are asked drop them off at the mall around 9:30a.m.<\/p>\n<p>-On October 27<sup>, 2012, a<\/sup> taco in a bag sale will be at the Buffalo Mall from 11a-2pm.<\/p>\n<p>It will cost $5 and includes a beverage.<\/p>\n<p>She thanked local businesses, donating items for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Other big thank you\u2019s went out to First Community Credit Union and their fundraising donations for JRHS, and to Hugo\u2019s with the Pepsi promotion benefiting the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard added, residents may donate to the James River Humane Society, from recycling beverage cans and used batteries to Gerdau Ameristeel in Jamestown, located at 1510 10the Street, Southeast, open M-F 8am-5pm.<\/p>\n<p>Just let them know you would like JRHS\u2019s account credited for your drop off.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard pointed out, window clings with the James River Humane Society\u2019s Logo are now available for purchase, at $5 each.<\/p>\n<p>They are being sold to support the Humane Society, at the shelter, and at fundraising events.<\/p>\n<p>She said the James River Humane Society, continues to appreciate all donated items from community supporters.<\/p>\n<p>She added the shelter is always looking for treats for the animals (especially rawhides) and cleaning items.<\/p>\n<p>The James River Humane Society is located off the I-94 Bloom Exit.<\/p>\n<p>Call 252-0747, for more information or to volunteer.<br \/>\nAs of\u00a0 Friday the shelter had 15 dogs, and 20 cats available for adoption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Belcourt man who was a member of the<br \/>\ntown&#8217;s Rural Fire Department has been sentenced for arson.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-seven-year-old Joseph Morin was accused of trying to burn<br \/>\ndown his former residence where his wife and children lived.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Morin pleaded guilty in the<br \/>\nFebruary incident and was sentenced to three years and 10 months in<br \/>\nprison, to be followed by two years of supervised release.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) &#8211; Police say a man they suspect of<br \/>\ninvolvement in a 2011 shooting in north-central Idaho has been<br \/>\narrested in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Lewiston Tribune reports 41-year-old Steven R. Francis was<br \/>\narrested in Tioga, North Dakota earlier this week and is awaiting<br \/>\nextradition to Idaho, where he is charged with three counts of<br \/>\nattempted second-degree murder.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Lewis County Sheriff&#8217;s Office says they believe Francis was<br \/>\ninvolved in a shootout that happened after several men stormed a<br \/>\nKamiah home in an apparent attempt to collect a debt.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Three people were treated at an area hospital after the shooting, but there were no fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Longtime Burleigh County Clerk of Court<br \/>\nDeb Simenson during her career has sent jury duty summons to her<br \/>\nhusband and two sons. Now, she can add her own name to that list.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Simenson uses a computer program to randomly select names from<br \/>\nlists of voters and people with driver&#8217;s licenses.<\/p>\n<p>The program prints out summonses, and a machine puts them into an envelope.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Simenson says she got one of the envelopes in her personal mail on Aug. 25.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The clerk&#8217;s office also keeps files for court cases.<\/p>\n<p>Simenson says she went out of her way to not look at files in the case for<br \/>\nwhich she had called herself.<\/p>\n<p>She ended up not having to serve anyway &#8211; the case was settled without a trial.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The city of Minot is seeking nearly $23<br \/>\nmillion from the federal Economic Development Administration to<br \/>\nhelp upgrade the city&#8217;s aging downtown infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The city&#8217;s request asks for help in upgrading water mains, storm<br \/>\nsewers, sanitary sewers and paving within 25 blocks.<\/p>\n<p>Added money from the city and a developer would make it a $30 million project to improve systems that are nearly a century old.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mayor Curt Zimbelman, City Manager David Waind and other local<br \/>\nand state officials traveled to Denver this week to make the<br \/>\nrequest. EDA officials did not immediately decide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police-operated surveillance cameras are<br \/>\ngoing online in part of downtown Fargo.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some people in North Dakota&#8217;s largest city have raised privacy<br \/>\nconcerns, but police say crime in the area is on the rise and the<br \/>\ndepartment can&#8217;t afford to put more officers out on patrol.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lt. Jeff Skuza says businesses in the area asked for the help<br \/>\nafter a rash of vandalism and thefts.<\/p>\n<p>The cameras will record video and feed it to the police station 24 hours a day. (AP) &#8211; Two North Dakota cowboys are being<br \/>\ninducted into the national Rodeo Hall of Fame.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pete Fredericks of Twin Buttes and Brad Gjermundson<br \/>\n(JUR&#8217;-muhnd-suhn) of Marshall will be honored during ceremonies<br \/>\nFriday and Saturday in Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Both already are members of the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 National Rodeo Hall of Fame inductees are chosen by members of<br \/>\nthe Rodeo Historical Society of the National Cowboy and Western<br \/>\nHeritage Museum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In world and national news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; Mitt Romney and his wife are releasing their 2011 tax returns &#8212; and it turns out they paid just under $2 million in federal income taxes on income of $13.7 million &#8212; most of it from investments.<\/p>\n<p>Their effective tax rate was 14.1 percent &#8212; just slightly above the 13.9 percent rate the couple paid for 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Romney had earlier released his 2010 returns and an estimate for last year, but he has declined to reveal his returns from previous years.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) &#8211; There have been violent demonstrations and clashes between protesters and police in cities across Pakistan today.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a day that Pakistan&#8217;s government had declared as a holiday, to allow for what officials said should be peaceful protests over the anti-Islamic film produced in the United States that has led to Muslim anger and violence around the world.<\/p>\n<p>In Karachi, police say armed demonstrators in a crowd of 15,000 fired on police, and burned two movie theaters and a bank.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve people were killed in Karachi, and at least 17 in Pakistan overall.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; The U.S.-Pakistan relationship is facing new strains amid the massive, violent anti-American protests in several Pakistani cities.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met today with Pakistan&#8217;s foreign minister, who avoided an invitation to explicitly condemn the violence.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the Pakistani focused her comments entirely on the film, and thanked Clinton for speaking out against it &#8212; saying it sent a &#8220;strong message&#8221; that should help end the violence.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PITTSBURGH (AP) &#8211; A hostage standoff in a Pittsburgh high-rise office building is over &#8212; but not before the suspect used Facebook to provide updates during the siege.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, police say, he surrendered to authorities without incident.
