Jamestown (CSi) Mrs. Jamestown America, Eliza Potratz, was crowned Mrs. North Dakota America, Saturday April 12, 2014 at the state pageant, held at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/p>\n

She will represent North Dakota at the 2014 Mrs. America Pageant in Tuscon, Arizona In August.<\/p>\n

Eliza joins Mary Schwartzkopf of Jamestown as a Mrs. North Dakota America, with Mary winning the crown in 2011.<\/p>\n

The first runner-up was Sarah Gratton, Mrs. McLean County. The second runner-up was Rhonda Lura, Mrs. Carrington, and third runner-up was Shannon Smith-Eidson, Mrs. Fargo.<\/p>\n

On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 Ms. Potratz joined other contestants and Mary Schwartzkopf.<\/p>\n

Eliza said that she was born and raised in Jamestown, and currently is a full-time student at University of Jamestown to graduate in May 2014 with a degree in criminal justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

She added that she wants to follow in her parents\u2019 footsteps Ed and Mary Holzworth, in law enforcement, a police officer with a goal of becoming a criminal justice teacher.<\/p>\n

She is involved with the charitable “Walk to Remember” inspired by her father, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n

She said “We all have life struggles, and finding the joy in little things, it helps.” She emphasized the importance of people finding their inner strength as well as living in the moment, finding memories and enjoying them.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther reports that the investigation into the house fire that occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 915 5th Avenue Southeast in Jamestown indicates the cause was unattended cooking. He says the Fire Investigation Conclusion is based on information collected from firefighters, photos taken at the scene and information collected from interviews. He says, this concludes the fire investigation, and this fire investigation would be considered to be closed unless further evidence is obtained.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The James River Humane Society will host and Open House\/Cookout, planned for May 17, 2014 from 11-a.m. to 2-p.m., at the location off the I-94 Bloom Exit.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Matt Opsahl said the event will give residents the opportunity to see recent improvements to the shelter, as well as viewing animals available for adoption.<\/p>\n

He said that currently there are several dogs, and 19 cats available for adoption.<\/p>\n

He added that volunteers are always welcome to assist with chores, and to socialize with the animals, and walk the dogs. Also that day a $35 discount will be offered on adoptions.<\/p>\n

Those attending may give a free will donation, for shelter operations.<\/p>\n

A drop box for the shelter is at Hugo\u2019s in Jamestown for supplies needed at the shelter, and features photos of some of the animals currently available for adoption.<\/p>\n

Linda Greer was named the JRMC Auxilian Volunteer of the Year. This honor was voted on by her peers, the JRMC Auxiliary, who recognized Linda\u2019s outstanding service over the past year. Greer volunteers in the JRMC Clinic, co-manages the JRMC Gift Shoppe and spends many hours assisting in fundraising on behalf of JRMC.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, an organizer of the event, Caroline Homan said, teams or individual walkers may participate in the walk, which raises funds for education and outreach materials promoting suicide awareness.<\/p>\n

She said more importantly it offers a network of support as we remember lost loved ones.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The Minot Police Department says three people are facing drug charges after officers found marijuana and cocaine inside a vehicle.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say they found the vehicle after a caller complained about loud noise and reported that it appeared three individuals who were outside the car were possibly using drugs.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, officers found 23-year-old Kirsche Rosel, 21-year-old Jaron Jellison and 22-year-old Andrew Barron, all of Minot, inside the car.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say a search of the car yielded marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia and cocaine.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the individuals face initial charges of possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Barron has also been charged with possession of cocaine, while Jellison was charged with the same offense and tampering with evidence.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It’s unclear whether the individuals have legal representation.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – One of 15 people to plead guilty in a synthetic drug conspiracy that resulted in the overdose deaths of two teenagers is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court.<\/p>\n

Casey Rosen is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death. He would be the 13th defendant sentenced in the case.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Rosen was a partner with Andrew Spofford, who cooked up the chemicals that led to the June 2012 deaths of two teens who lived in the Grand Forks area. Spofford was sentenced earlier to 17 1\/2 years in prison.<\/p>\n

Investigators have dubbed the case “Operation Stolen Youth.”<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A white supremacist who tried to take over the small North Dakota town of Leith is to be sentenced late this month for terrorizing its residents.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A pre-sentence investigation was submitted to the court late last week, and sentencing for Craig Cobb has been scheduled for April 29.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 62-year-old Cobb initially faced seven felony terrorizing charges for carrying out armed patrols in mid-November. The charges could have landed him in prison for 35 years.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In late February he agreed to plead guilty to five misdemeanor menacing charges and one felony terrorizing count in a plea agreement that would spare him further jail time, but Judge David Reich (ryk) ordered the pre-sentence investigation before accepting the deal.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Leith Mayor Ryan Schock says he wants Cobb to go to prison.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The parents of a University of North Dakota student who died after an accident in a rail yard have sued a railroad company and a fraternity.
\n\u00a0
\nThe parents of 20-year-old Blake Ayling say BNSF Railway and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity contributed to their son’s death in March 2012.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ayling died of blood loss after his right arm got tangled in a train and was torn off. His death was ruled an accident.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ayling’s parents argue BNSF knew people crossed through the rail yard, but made little efforts to warn them of unseen dangers. They say the fraternity contributed to their son’s death by allowing him to drink alcohol on the premises.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BNSF says it’s reviewing the lawsuit. The fraternity didn’t respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – About 560 barrels of production fluid have leaked from a pipeline into a drainage system in Billings County in western North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kris Roberts with state’s Department of Health says the fluid is saltwater brine that is injected back into a geological formation to push oil toward production wells.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oklahoma-based Continental Resources operates the pipeline. State officials say the company reported that the fluid leaked from a pipeline into a dry drainage, and some of the material reached a flowing drainage.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Roberts says the fluid also went through a stockman’s pasture.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say about 100 barrels of fluid had been recovered as of Saturday afternoon. Berms have been built on the site to prevent fluid from flowing elsewhere.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The military has conducted a change of command ceremony for a North Dakota National Guard unit. Brigadier General David Anderson retired as commander of the Guard’s Army Component Command on Sunday. Colonel Robert Fode is now leading the unit, overseeing about 3,350 soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) – Senator Heidi Heitkamp (HYT’-kamp) is emerging as perhaps President Barack Obama’s most consistent Democratic critic on energy policy. She’s using much of her time as senator to work on energy issues she says are critical to her state – and regularly finds herself at odds with Obama.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heitkamp says that Obama’s energy policy lacks consistency. She also says that when he talks about an “all of the above” energy policy, that’s not what she sees.

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The city of Williston has formally recognized a company that provided beds at its crew camp for a temporary emergency homeless shelter.

The effort dubbed Project Heat ended at the close of March, and\u00a0 Mayor ward Koeser and city commissioners recently thanked Aries Systems Building for providing 10 beds at its crew camp for 50 nights.
