Valley City (CSi) Following a 4-hour hearing in Southeast Judicial District Court in Valley City yesterday, Judge Jay Schmitz says he will issue his decision next week, to determine if the Valley City school board was justified in issuing unilateral contracts to members of the Valley City Education Association after the school board attempted to adjust wording in the negotiated agreement healthcare section.<\/p>\n

The Valley City Education Association took legal action against the Valley City School District after the school board attempted to issue contracts that had changed the language in a healthcare section that was not identical to the state Fact Finding Commission report.<\/p>\n

After the judge\u2019s decision, if one side doesn\u2019t like the decision they can petition for an appeal 30 days.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out Tuesday evening, about 10:30 to McGinnis Cemetery where a prairie fire was reported.<\/p>\n

Rural Fire Chief Rick Woehl says the Rural Fire Department responded with five trucks and ten fire fighters.<\/p>\n

High wind and soft ground created limited access.<\/p>\n

Rural firefighters used a six wheeler with a 100 gallon water tank to put out most of the fire.<\/p>\n

Damage estimates of burned acreage was not immediately available.<\/p>\n

Rural fire fighters were on the scene about an hour and a half.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) SkyWest is preparing to start airline service to Jamestown on June 5, 2014.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner said, Jamestown SkyWest Agents will undergo extensive training April 28th<\/sup> through May 23rd<\/sup>. He added that shipments from SkyWest are coming to the airport with signage and other amenities for the terminal and airport grounds.<\/p>\n

He said SkyWest will hold an open house at the airport, tentatively set for June 20, 2014, with the official date to be announced later.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the 50 seat aircraft servicing Jamestown will have the United Airlines logo and paint scheme.<\/p>\n

He said that reservations can be made on line at www.united.com or through local travel agencies, and more information on line at www.flyjamestown.net<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

He said, weekdays during the high traffic days there will be three flights with the Denver hub, and a lighter weekend schedule.<\/p>\n

With the Jamestown Regional Airport hangar project, Leitner said construction bids will be opened May 2, 2014, as the initial hangar will have eight units.<\/p>\n

He added that Interstate Engineering in Jamestown has more information.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Regional Airport Authority members will meet with University of Jamestown, and a Jamestown Public School official to possibly start aviation classes at the airport for high school and college students.<\/p>\n

Matt Leitner and authority Chairman Jim Boyd will meet with a representative of the North Dakota Aeronautics Commssion and University of Jamestown President, Bob Badal, and JPS Superintendent Rob Lech to start the classes, possibly next year.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC)Board has pledged $100,000 over four years for a proposed manufacturing training center for southeast North Dakota.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the JSDC\u2019s Business Development Coordinator, DeAnn Brunner said the project recruits high school students for careers in manufacturing and provides educational opportunities designed to help them fit into regional industries.<\/p>\n

The project is a partnership of the North Dakota State College of Science, area businesses and economic development groups.<\/p>\n

Ms. Brunner pointed out that plans include hiring a business developer and one or two recruiters. The students could be educated at the NDSCS campus at Wahpeton or in specialized training hosted by industries in other communities.<\/p>\n

The JSDC pledge matches a pledge by the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp. The project has a goal of $500,000 and will continue to solicit pledges from economic development groups and businesses within the region.<\/p>\n

Once the goal is reached, the program will request additional funding from the North Dakota Legislature for a three- or four-year period after which the program should be self-sufficient.<\/p>\n

In other business, the board has approved the sale of a lot in the I-94 Business Park to Charles Rickets, who plans to construct a building to rent as shop space for various contractors and businesses.<\/p>\n

The approval will be taken to the Jamestown City Council and the Stutsman County Commission, for action.<\/p>\n

The board also passed a $15,000 budget for the ACT Program. The ACT Program will provide training and testing for workers in the area.<\/p>\n

She noted that Buffalo City Diesel in Jamestown is working on its expansion project.<\/p>\n

She added JSDC will hold the Meeting on Wednesday April 30, 2014, at the Quality Inn & Suites in Jamestown, with the social at 6-p.m., and the dinner and meeting at 7-p.m.<\/p>\n

The Guest Speaker will be Greg Allen of Cavendish Farms in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Valley City (CSi) Valley City water rates will increase, starting in May.<\/p>\n

City Administrator David Schelkoph notes that the new water treatment plant consumes more electricity treating Devils Lake water coming into the Sheyenne River in the summer and fall.<\/p>\n

Schelkoph says most Valley City residents will see a $7 per month increase on their monthly water bill after May 5th.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A federal judge has overturned a North Dakota law banning abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy and before many women know they’re pregnant.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland on Wednesday ruled that the law banning abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detected is “invalid and unconstitutional.” Hovland said the law “cannot withstand a constitutional challenge.”

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state’s only abortion clinic is in Fargo. Backed by the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights, the clinic filed a lawsuit against the measure in July.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities in court records allege that Dean broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home Thursday, physically assaulted her and shocked her with a stun gun. Records show Dean wore white gloves and a nylon hood over his head during the incident.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He faces seven charges including attempted kidnapping, second degree assault and first degree burglary. The attempted kidnapping charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The woman had reported a man grabbed her as she went into her Lincoln home last week. The woman alleged the man assaulted her, put her in a box in his pickup and drove her to a home in Mandan. She reported he then forced her to drink alcohol and assaulted her.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators with the Mandan and Lincoln police departments have determined the woman was neither abducted nor assaulted.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities accused Steen of hindering law enforcement officers investigating the spring 2013 death of 58-year-old Jack Sjol (shohl). The Class C felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the state will get $3.1 million, up from $483,000 last year. He says an emphasis on specialty crops in the new farm bill is the reason.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The goalie who helped lead the University of North Dakota to the NCAA Frozen Four is sticking around.<\/p>\n

Zane Gothberg announced Wednesday night that he will return for his junior season.<\/p>\n

Gothberg is from Thief River Falls, Minn., and is a 2010 draft pick of the NHL’s Boston Bruins. He was 20-10-3 last season for UND and led the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with a 1.99 goals-against average.<\/p>\n

Gothberg on Wednesday was named the NCHC player of the month for March\/April. He led the nation in appearances, starts, minutes played and saves during the time period. He tied for the national lead with a pair of shutouts and was second in wins, with six.<\/p>\n
