News0 &#8212; The Jamestown Rural Fire Department sent six units and 12 firefighters to a soybean field four miles west of Jamestown Friday, (Sept 21, 2012), about 4- o&#8221;Clock.<\/p>\n<p>The fire started from a combine fire that spread to 30 acres of stubble.<\/p>\n<p>A neighboring farmer assisted digging fire breaks with a tractor and disk.<\/p>\n<p>Assisting at the scene was the Pingree Rural Fire Department, with the units on the scene about an hour and a half.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; The James River Humane Society has fundraisers planned in the community.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday\u2019s (Sept 21, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Jennifer Barnard said, the Lloyd\u2019s Motors fundraiser in in progress, running through October.<\/p>\n<p>They are donating a portion of profits from cars sold, to the Humane Society.<\/p>\n<p>A bake sale is set for October 13<sup>, <\/sup>2012, at the Buffalo Mall from 10a-2pm.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in donating items for the sale, are asked drop them off at the mall around 9:30a.m.<\/p>\n<p>-On October 27<sup>, 2012, a<\/sup> taco in a bag sale will be at the Buffalo Mall from 11a-2pm.<\/p>\n<p>It will cost $5 and includes a beverage.<\/p>\n<p>She thanked local businesses, donating items for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Other big thank you\u2019s went out to First Community Credit Union and their fundraising donations for JRHS, and to Hugo\u2019s with the Pepsi promotion benefiting the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard added, residents may donate to the James River Humane Society, from recycling beverage cans and used batteries to Gerdau Ameristeel in Jamestown, located at 1510 10the Street, Southeast, open M-F 8am-5pm.<\/p>\n<p>Just let them know you would like JRHS\u2019s account credited for your drop off.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard pointed out, window clings with the James River Humane Society\u2019s Logo are now available for purchase, at $5 each.<\/p>\n<p>They are being sold to support the Humane Society, at the shelter, and at fundraising events.<\/p>\n<p>She said the James River Humane Society, continues to appreciate all donated items from community supporters.<\/p>\n<p>She added the shelter is always looking for treats for the animals (especially rawhides) and cleaning items.<\/p>\n<p>The James River Humane Society is located off the I-94 Bloom Exit.<\/p>\n<p>Call 252-0747, for more information or to volunteer.<br \/>\nAs of last Friday the shelter had 15 dogs, and 20 cats available for adoption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Fargo police say a grocery store employee was<br \/>\nshot twice during a robbery.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Lt. Joel Vettel\u00a0say \u00a0the Sunmart Foods employee was taken to a Fargo hospital following the shooting late Sunday night.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel says the employee&#8217;s condition was unknown on Monday and<br \/>\nthe suspect remained at large.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police responded at about 11 p.m. to the reported robbery.<br \/>\nPolice say the victim and another employee were inside at closing<br \/>\ntime when the suspect approached the victim and made demands.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel says the victim was shot during a physical altercation<br \/>\nwith the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>No customers were inside at the time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP Sept 23,2012) \u2014 North Dakota authorities say an 18-year-old man was killed early Sunday when he was hit by a train in Fargo.<\/p>\n<p>Fargo Police Sgt. Mike Erbes says Empire Builder train hit a pedestrian. Authorities have not released the name of the man, who died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The accident happened about 3 a.m. on the tracks west of the North Dakota State University campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Game and Fish Department<br \/>\nsays two men were rescued from Lake Sakakawea after their boat<br \/>\ncapsized<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A third man was able to swim to shore safely and notify authorities.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 District game warden Mike Raasakka says the men&#8217;s boat began<br \/>\ntaking on water early Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Raasaaka says he and Mountrail<br \/>\nCounty Deputy Duane Marmon found the two men clinging to the<br \/>\nswamped boat early Saturday morning, about a mile from shore.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Raasakka says the men were cold and wet and &#8220;pretty happy&#8221; to<br \/>\nsee rescuers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) &#8211; What began as a small grass fire<br \/>\nFriday afternoon has spread to more than 600 acres in the Dakota<br \/>\nPrairie Grasslands area about 30 miles southwest of Watford City in<br \/>\nwestern North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0The fire has closed down the Maah Deah Hey Trail and the Bennett Campground.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 80 people are working to contain the fire, and a<br \/>\nhelicopter is being used to drop water on the blaze.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dakota Prairie Grasslands district ranger Jay Frederick says<br \/>\ntemperatures were expected to drop near freezing overnight, which<br \/>\nwould help firefighters.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rangers have taken precautionary measures to protect some<br \/>\nranchers near the fire, but there has been no property damage so<br \/>\nfar. The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Students at a North Dakota high school have<br \/>\nraised more than $7,000 to help a family whose home was destroyed<br \/>\nby fire in a North Fargo mobile home park.<br \/>\n\u00a0Stephen and BobbiJo Garcia and their four children escaped the fire on Labor Day weekend, but were not able to save anything from the home.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After hosting fundraisers for the Garcia family for two weeks,<br \/>\nstudents at Fargo North High gave the family a check on Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BobbiJo Garcia says the money helps a lot because the family&#8217;s<br \/>\nhouse was a total loss.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Garcia family is staying with relatives until they can find<br \/>\na new home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A trust fund that benefits North Dakota&#8217;s<br \/>\nschools has reached the $2 billion mark.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Department of Trust Lands commissioner Lance Gaebe<br \/>\n(GAY&#8217;-bee) says the Common Schools Trust Fund had $1 billion in<br \/>\nassets only three years ago.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The fund gets income from the sale of rights to explore for oil<br \/>\non state lands, and it gets royalty payments from oil production.<br \/>\nGaebe says the oil income is the biggest reason for the fund&#8217;s<br \/>\ngrowth.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The school trust fund also gets money from leasing out about<br \/>\n700,000 acres of state-owned pasture land.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Part of the fund&#8217;s assets are paid out to North Dakota schools.<br \/>\nDuring the current two-year budget, schools are getting about $93<br \/>\nmillion. Gaebe says that will be going up to $137 million in the<br \/>\nnext two years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Lawmakers say they want to keep sales tax<br \/>\nbreaks for Montana and Canadian residents who shop in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Montana shoppers can get a refund of North Dakota&#8217;s sales tax<br \/>\nwhen they buy goods in the state. Montana doesn&#8217;t have a sales tax,<br \/>\nand North Dakota merchants say the break helps draw shoppers.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Canadians have to pay North Dakota sales taxes on the goods they<br \/>\nbuy, but they can get a refund. The state Tax Department has paid<br \/>\nalmost $2.2 million in refunds this year.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Legislature&#8217;s Taxation Committee won&#8217;t support<br \/>\nproposals to get rid of the tax breaks.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo Rep. (AP) &#8211; An 88-year-old former North Dakota man who<br \/>\nleft high school to serve in World War II has received an honorary<br \/>\ndiploma.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Teddy Wong was drafted when he was a high school junior in 1943.<br \/>\nWong, who now owns a restaurant with his wife in Roseville, Minn.,<br \/>\nreceived an honorary diploma Saturday during the Fargo North High<br \/>\nSchool&#8217;s annual Hall of Fame Ceremony.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wong\u00a0says \u00a0it took him nearly 70 years, but he was finally ready to graduate.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wong was born in North Dakota, spent his early school years in<br \/>\nChina, and his family moved back to Fargo when he was 13.<\/p>\n<p>Halfway through his junior year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and<br \/>\nserved three years during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Locked-out American Crystal Sugar<br \/>\nworkers have called on their children in an effort to get the<br \/>\ncompany to negotiate an end to the labor dispute.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The company locked out its regular workers almost 14 months ago<br \/>\nin a union contract dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Company officials have said they have<br \/>\nmade their final offer, but the locked-out workers want to continue<br \/>\nnegotiations.<br \/>\n\u00a0Children of the workers gathered Saturday to write letters to company officials and farmers who are company board members. The letters describe the impact the lockout has had on them in the hope of making the<br \/>\ncompany realize it needs to end.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some of the children say the lockout has hurt their families and<br \/>\ncreated worry that they will run out of food or lose their homes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D.
