News Sept 24, 2012) &#8212; Rural fires reported in the area late Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>At 3:50-p.m., the Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called to a field northeast of Jamestown, a mile and a half southwest of Spiritwood Lake, where a cornfield fire was reported.<\/p>\n<p>About 4-p.m., the Medina Fire Department was went to a reported combine fire, about eight miles north of Medina.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a sobriety checkpoint and alcohol saturation patrol in Stutsman County last weekend netted several arrests for various offenses.<\/p>\n<p>A sobriety checkpoint was set up Friday night in Jamestown in the 1100 block of 19th Street Northeast. Authorities stopped both eastbound and westbound traffic between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. and arrested two drivers for driving under the influence.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Patrol, Jamestown Police Department and Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Department teamed up for the increased enforcement, which resulted in:<br \/>\n&#8211; five arrests for DUI<br \/>\n&#8211; two arrests for driving under suspension<br \/>\n&#8211; one minor in possession<br \/>\n&#8211; one open container of alcohol<br \/>\n&#8211; one deliver of alcohol to a minor<br \/>\n&#8211; one possession of marijuana<br \/>\n&#8211; one unlawful possession of marijuana paraphernalia<\/p>\n<p>The saturation patrol included a sobriety checkpoint Friday night in Jamestown in the 1100 block of 19th Street Northeast. Authorities stopped both eastbound and westbound traffic between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. and arrested two drivers for driving under the influence.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>From VCSU\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2013 A group of approximately 190 freshmen from Valley City State University will harvest fresh produce from an area farm that will be distributed to 278 food shelves, soup kitchens, shelters and other charitable feeding programs supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank, a program of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of VCSU\u2019s &#8220;Learning to Live\/Living to Learn&#8221; (L2L) program.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place from 9:00 am \u2013 11:30 am, Tuesday, September 25, 2012, approximately 10 miles north of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>Each Fall semester all new students at VCSU take part in an orientation program known as Learning to Live-Living to Learn (L2L) in which upper class students serve as mentors for groups of new students and assist students in the transition to college.<\/p>\n<p>L2L topics include team building, orientation to campus services, adjusting to college, substance abuse issues, academic advising, learning styles, stress management, and paying for college.<\/p>\n<p>A component of the Learning to L2L program is a community service project that will allow the entire freshman class to participate as a group and make a significant contribution to the city or the region. In previous years, students have painted fire hydrants throughout Valley City and worked on flood clean-up efforts.<\/p>\n<p>For the third year in a row, the L2L community service project will involve harvesting fresh produce (primarily squash) from a local farm that will be distributed to food shelves throughout North Dakota. Last year, the project yielded approximately 25 tons of produc<strong>e.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Fargo police say a grocery store employee was<br \/>\nshot twice during a robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Lt. Joel Vettelsays \u00a0the Sunmart Foods employee was taken to a Fargo hospital following the shooting late Sunday night.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel says the employee&#8217;s condition was unknown on Monday and<br \/>\nthe suspect remained at large.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police responded at about 11 p.m. to the reported robbery.<br \/>\nPolice say the victim and another employee were inside at closing<br \/>\ntime when the suspect approached the victim and made demands.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel says the victim was shot during a physical altercation<br \/>\nwith the suspect. No customers were inside at the time.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel says armed robberies in which someone is hurt are rare in<br \/>\nFargo.<\/p>\n<p>He says police recommend that people comply with the robber&#8217;s demands.orth Dakota&#8217;s state-owned<br \/>\nflour mill fell by half during its last budget year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Game and Fish Department<br \/>\nsays two men were rescued from Lake Sakakawea after their boat<br \/>\ncapsized<br \/>\nA third man was able to swim to shore safely and notify authorities.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 District game warden Mike Raasakka says the men&#8217;s boat began<br \/>\ntaking on water early Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Raasaaka says he and Mountrail County Deputy Duane Marmon found the two men clinging to the swamped boat early Saturday morning, about a mile from shore.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Raasakka says the men were cold and wet and &#8220;pretty happy&#8221; to<br \/>\nsee rescuers.<\/p>\n<p>MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) &#8211; A regional bomb squad was summoned to<br \/>\nMoorhead to detonate an old grenade found by a citizen.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the man was walking along the Red River north of the<br \/>\nHjemkomst (YUM&#8217;-komst) Center about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when he came<br \/>\nacross the corroded grenade.<\/p>\n<p>He called police who determined it to be authentic.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Moorhead and Fargo, N.D., police cleared the river area and the<br \/>\ngrenade was exploded about 10 p.m. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Profits at\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0North Dakota&#8217;s state-owned<br \/>\nflour mill fell by half during its last budget year.<\/p>\n<p>The mill&#8217;s manager says the $8 million profit is still one of<br \/>\nthe best in the history of the mill.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The mill has been grappling with wheat price increases, and<br \/>\nflour demand has risen only slightly.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple is chairman of the North Dakota Industrial<br \/>\nCommission, which is the mill&#8217;s board of directors.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He says flour milling is a cyclical business, and he&#8217;s not<br \/>\nconcerned about the profit drop.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The mill reported an $8 million profit during the year that<br \/>\nended June 30. It made just over $16 million during its 2011 budget<br \/>\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The University of North Dakota wants to<br \/>\nset up a new geology school, with help from a major oil company and<br \/>\nits chairman.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s a $14 million initiative. Continental Resources Co. and<br \/>\nchief executive Harold Hamm are putting $5 million each into the<br \/>\nproject. A state oil and gas research fund is being asked to supply<br \/>\nanother $4 million.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota&#8217;s Industrial Commission is considering the request<br \/>\nMonday at a meeting in Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The project&#8217;s promoters say the money will be used to equip the<br \/>\nschool, pay its professors and provide financial aid to students.<\/p>\n<p>The new school expects to graduate 50 petroleum geologists and<br \/>\nengineers every year.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov.
