BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The National Weather Service has designated this week as Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota. But conditions are more winterlike in the western part of the state.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Up to five inches of snow is expected in the region before the precipitation changes to rain Monday afternoon. Forecasters are urging motorists to use caution.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Snow also is in the forecast for various parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Parts of eastern North Dakota got an inch or more of rain on Sunday. The weather service has posted flood warnings for the Red River, but only minor flooding is expected throughout the valley.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service recorded .91 inches of rain in Jamestown on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The CSi Weather computer in downtown Jamestown Sunday recorded a little over an inch of rain.\u00a0 Since midnight Monday to 8-a.m., the weather computer has recorded .19 of an inch, and the weather service in Jamestown has recorded .11 inches.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 Authorities, Friday evening, arrested a 37 year old man and a 17 year old male after an alleged\u00a0robbery in Jamestown, followed by a\u00a0pursuit that ended in northern Barnes County.<\/p>\n

The pair are accused\u00a0in the incident\u00a0where a woman\u2019s\u00a0purse was\u00a0stolen,\u00a0 between 5-p.m., and 6-p.m., witnessed by a man, in the parking lot between Perkins Restaurant and First Community Credit Union\u2019s branch office, on Highway 281 South.\u00a0 The woman was then purportedly pushed to the ground by one of the males.<\/p>\n

Following the 9-1-1 cal, \u00a0the pair were followed on I-94 into Barnes County by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, and then north, where they were arrested on suspicion of robbery.<\/p>\n

Assisting was the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The man is being\u00a0held at the Stutsman County Correctional Center, while the 17 year old is being held in a juvenile facility, as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) With the Ave Maria Village, Chapel, Hospice Suite, and all-weather garage, completed and in use, there is still about $259,000 to raise, and complete the Capital Campaign. The campaign passed the first goal of $1 million, several months ago, with the additional dollars needed to reach the total goal of $1,325,000.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 Ave Maria Village\u2019s Development Director, Jan Barnes said fundraisers have been planned to help reach the goal.<\/p>\n

“Tea Time” will be on May 6, 2014, at 2-p.m., at St. Paul\u2019s Methodist Church in Jamestown, with ticket price at $20.<\/p>\n

A Pulled Pork BBQ will be on June 18, 2014, from 11-a.m., to 1:30-p.m. The cost is $5 per basket, and carryouts will be available by calling in advance to 701-952-5677.<\/p>\n

Ms. Barnes added that raffle tickets are also being sold for $25 each, with the drawing on July 7, 2014, with prizes donated by local and area businesses and organizations.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that on May 13, 2014, Bishop John Folda of the Catholic Diocese of Fargo will preside at a Dedicatory Mass and blessing of the Chapel, at 10-a.m.<\/p>\n

That will be followed by an interdenominational servicde of dedication on May 18, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., followed that day by a community open house from 2:30-p.m., to 5-p.m., which will include tours and refreshments, with all events open to the public.<\/p>\n

Bismarck (CSi) The National Weather Service has issued the Flood & Weather Outlook, through late July 2014.<\/p>\n

With the Flood Outlook, for the James River Basin, the weather Service says<\/p>\n

normal to slightly above normal is the general trend for the flood risk, during the period.<\/p>\n

The underlying cause for the risk is the still above normal soil moisture, especially at depth.<\/p>\n

The risk is greatest in the time period of April to early May 2014, and with time vegetative use of soil moisture will lower the risk to near normal.<\/p>\n

Presently only very small amounts of snow remain in well shaded and shelter area.<\/p>\n

Forst is steadily coming out of the ground with most areas now having 20-plus inches of unfrozen soil, above the layer of frost.<\/p>\n

Soil moisture levels remain about normal at depth even though nominal precipitation and onset of the growing season has lowered soil moisture in the upper several inches.<\/p>\n

Rivers and streams are ice-free at this point, and well within their normal range for water levels.<\/p>\n

All dams are at or above their full supply level, with the vast majority of their flood control available.<\/p>\n

In general, the region has thus far enjoyed a relatively quiet spring.<\/p>\n

With the weather outlook through the period the National Weather Service forecast calls for wet and cooler than normal conditions and temperatures, through April 2014.<\/p>\n

The one month and three month outlooks, the expectation is for an increase chance for cooler than normal temperatures with an equal chance of below normal, near normal, or above normal precipitation.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Buffalo City Tourism Executive Board is preparing for the re-branding rollout.<\/p>\n

The event will be held May 9, 2014 from 4-p.m., to 6-p.m., at the Jamestown Arts Center.<\/p>\n

The board is also in the process of discussing a request by the State of North Dakota to host a 125th<\/sup> State Celebration in Jamestown this summer.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 The state of North Dakota has announced the return of the Scenic Byways and Backways Program.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tourism officials have released a brochure mapping out the 11 scenic byways and backways throughout the state. Motorcyclists who travel at least five of the 11 byways and backways will receive a special patch.

\nBuffalo City Tourism Foundation\u00a0Director, Searle Swedlund\u00a0says \u00a0that traveling the scenic byways and backways is “a way to get off the beaten path.”<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A man who helped a fellow inmate scale a fence to escape from a Rugby jail last summer has been sentenced in federal court.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Christopher Ratteray pleaded guilty in January to assisting escape from the Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Ratteray gave Wesley Brown III a jacket to protect Brown from razor wire on the jail fence. Brown was apprehended within three hours.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland on Friday sentenced Ratteray to serve one year in prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brown has pleaded guilty to possession of firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and one count of escape from custody. A sentencing date has not been set.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brown faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Police say five men have been arrested in a prostitution sting operation in Grand Forks.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the men were arrested on charges of hiring an individual to engage in sexual activity. The misdemeanor charge is punishable by a $1,000 fine and 30 days in jail.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Grand Forks Police Department says a hotel in the south end of the city assisted authorities during the operation.

\u00a0WASHINGTON (AP) – North Dakota and federal officials have big hopes for the growth of what are known as unmanned aircraft systems. Experts say the state is well-positioned to take advantage of its attributes. Those include a first-of-its-kind academic program, an established military presence, a financial commitment and favorable airspace conditions.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A group of Williston residents is calling for the resignation of some members of the city’s park board.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirteen residents say the actions of three Williston Park Board members that led to the suspension of Executive Director Darin Krueger aren’t legal and undermine the board’s integrity.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The residents are questioning the actions of commissioners Ken Callahan, Nick Johnson and James Bervig.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Krueger was suspended for five days and placed on a six-month improvement plan without a full, public vote of the board after the April 15 park board meeting.

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Game and Fish Department is continuing to impose camping restrictions this year on some wildlife management areas in western North Dakota and along Lake Sakakawea.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The restrictions the past couple of years are a response to the oil boom in the region and are aimed at ensuring the areas are available for hunters and anglers. Rules are posted at entry points.

\u00a0The\u00a0 Golden State blowout\u00a0 of the Clippers came a day after TMZ released an audio recording purportedly of Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racial comments. In the recording the man speaking urges his girlfriend not to bring black friends to Clippers games. The NBA and the Clippers are investigating, including whether the male voice on the recording is in fact Sterling’s.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Before the start of the game the Clippers ran out of the tunnel wearing their warm-up uniforms. They huddled together at center court and tossed their warm-ups to the floor and went through their pregame routine with their red Clippers’ shirts on inside-out to hide the team’s logo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Magic Johnson weighed in before the game by saying he will never attend a Clippers game again and that commissioner Adam Silver should “come down hard” on Sterling. Johnson says Sterling should not be allowed to own a team.

The full list is also expected to include wealthy individuals close to Putin.
