Baccalaureate takes place at 10:30 a.m. Commencement is at 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gary Watts, Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, will deliver the Commencement address.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers representing the Class of 2014 are Stephanie Erlandson, an exercise science graduate from Breckenridge, Minn.; and Peter Odney, a mass communication graduate from St. Paul, Minn. Ben Kirkeby, Assistant Professor and Psychology Department Chairman, will deliver the Baccalaureate address.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. M. James Scherbenske, a 1959 graduate from Falls Church, Va., will be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday, May 9 and recognized at the Commencement ceremony. Dr. Scherbenske is retired from the National Institutes of Health as a health scientist administrator.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Jamestown Concert Choir will present a Commencement Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9 in Voorhees Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner says the airport staff is readying the facility for the start of skyWest\u2019s Jamestown air service starting on June 5, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 Leitner said the SkyWest, United Airline service schedule is posted at the airport\u2019s web site: http:\/\/flyjamestown.net\/<\/p>\n<p>He added that as of Thursday 275 boardings have been made through local travel agents, or on line at flyunited.com<\/p>\n<p>Leitner noted that an Open House at the airport will be on June 20, 2014, with more information to be released later.<\/p>\n<p>Leitner pointed out that Jamestown Regional Airport has received grant funding from the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission in the amount of $241,400 dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The dollars will be used for upcoming projects including, airfield crack sealing and marking, the purchase of a new rescue and fire truck, wetland mitigation reduction and construction, the environmental assessment for jet service, and construction of a t-hangar building.<\/p>\n<p>Leitner said the bid under review for the construction of an 8-unit hangar at $580,000 with officials to put together the financing package.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the new fire and rescue truck with a capacity of 1,500 gallons will replace the truck now in use, with the price tag of $750,000. The state will pick up five percent, and the local share, also five percent is $37,500. The present unit will be traded in for the new truck. He said the present ARFF truck is fully operational and meets all of the requirements for the 50-seat CRJ-200. He said the airport would like to be proactive should Jamestown\u2019s commercial air service be enhanced in the future, such as a 70 or 90-seat regional jet. Leitner said officials recognize that the state and community are poised for the continuation of large-scale economic growth and the objective as an airport is to be ready for it.<\/p>\n<p>Another airport project is to establish parking for long-term, and short-term usage.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown will host a North Dakota 125<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary event this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Frontier Village Association has approved hosting a concert on August 9, 2014, during Pioneer Days, at Frontier Village, one of five state-sponsored events related to North Dakota\u2019s 125th Anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>The association partners with Buffalo City Tourism for the concert.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund, says the state is celebrating its quasquicentennial and the North Dakota State Historical Society\u2019s 125th Planning Committee chose Jamestown, Dickinson and Devils Lake to host events outside of the two main events planned for Aug. 16 and Nov. 2 in Bismarck.<\/p>\n<p>Parking details will be worked out with Frontier Village Manager Colleen Conley.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) Buffalo City Tourism will launch of a new logo and brand with a &#8220;unique unveiling event,&#8221; at a The Arts Center,today from 4 to 6 p.m.Tourism Director Searle Swedlund says The Arts Center will be transformed into an environment that embodies this new invitation and it will be an experience to remember. Photos posted on line at CSiNewsNow.com<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a Ravenna<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska man was killed when he rolled his semi rig Thursday morning about 7:10 northbound on Highway One about nine miles north of Verona.<\/p>\n<p>35 year-old Wade Flies was driving the semi that drifted off of the roadway into the East ditch, where it rolled onto the roof, pinning him inside.<\/p>\n<p>He was not wearing a seat belt, and he died on the scene.<\/p>\n<p>He was taken to the Oakes Hospital by the Oakes\/LaMoure Ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>His name will be released pending notification of relatives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A man charged in a fatal hit-and-run in Oakes a year ago has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, and prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against him.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-three-year-old Dakota Sutton, of Brampton, was charged in the April 2013 death of 28-year-old Reavis Dandridge. Prosecutors say Sutton forced Dandridge out of his truck, then ran him down and left him for dead.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0Sutton pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence under the plea agreement with prosecutors.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, compared to life behind bars for murder. A sentencing date was not immediately set.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Family members of Dandridge who live in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota say the plea deal is an injustice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Fargo man is accused of stealing more than $50,000 in cash and jewelry from the home of a neighbor and family friend.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Charles Carney is charged in Cass County with two counts of felony theft. Police believe the thefts took place over a period of two to three years. Some of the stolen jewelry was tracked to local pawn shops.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The victim&#8217;s attorney, Randy Stefanson,\u00a0says \u00a0Carney was a trusted friend who had a key and &#8220;carte blanche&#8221; access to the property.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lorelle Moeckel, Carney&#8217;s attorney, did not return phone messages.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police say the suspect who assaulted a man inside a vehicle in Fargo lured the victim through an online sex ad and could be responsible for at least four similar attacks and robberies.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the victim had responded to a Craigslist ad placed by 18-year-old Obsa Ali Omer. The victim was driving the two of them through a construction zone Wednesday afternoon when he was cut by Omer with a knife.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes says Omer is suspected in two other assaults in Fargo and two robberies in Moorhead, Minnesota. Those cases also were related to online ads.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Police are asking victims of similar robberies to report them to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Bismarck man has pleaded guilty to forgery and counterfeiting charges in a case involving a Minot law firm. Brent Jungling entered his plea this week in a case where checks worth more than $90,000 were stolen and cashed from a law firm. Four other men have been arrested in connection with the case.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by a Washington state couple who were caught with medical marijuana.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brian Kuruc and his wife, Rebecca Larson of Dickinson were apprehended last year at a Casselton motel. They entered conditional guilty pleas to possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorneys argued that Kuruc and Larson both had valid pot prescriptions from Washington and the amount of marijuana was under their allowable limits.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The justices said in a ruling released Thursday that a prescription is not a valid defense and they don&#8217;t believe the Legislature meant to put the state &#8220;in the perplexing position&#8221; of recognizing prescriptions that can&#8217;t be legally obtained by its own citizens.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court noted that medical marijuana is not legal under federal law.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The main railroad moving crude oil out of the rich Bakken formation in North Dakota and Montana says a new federal emergency order on rail shipments will not affect shipments. The U.S. Department of Transportation on Wednesday required railroads to inform state emergency management officials about the movement of large shipments of crude oil. He says the event will be scheduled again next spring.<\/p>\n<p>The club will meet Thursday night at 7:00, weather permitted the black powder and fireworks demo will be held after the regular meeting at about 8:00.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s Blue Jays \u00a0Varsity Baseball Double-Header vs. Dickinson was postponed to today , May 9<sup>th<\/sup> @ 4:30 PM (teams will only play one seven-inning conference game)<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s JV Baseball Double-Header vs. Dickinson was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Park Board has approved a Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course improvement plan.<\/p>\n<p>The project is expected to cost about $550,000.<\/p>\n<p>Improvements planned include:<\/p>\n<p>Filling the fairway bunker and regrade the fairway on hole No. 10;<\/p>\n<p>Constructing bunkers and reconstruct the tees on hole No. 13;<\/p>\n<p>Reconstructing the tees on holes No. 16, 17 and 18;<\/p>\n<p>Reconstructing and leveling the tees on holes No. 1, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14 and 15;<\/p>\n<p>Leveling the green and fairway and reconstruct the green surround and bunker for hole No. 17;<\/p>\n<p>Regrading the fairway and tees on Hole No. 11, including work to improve the cart path and culverts.<\/p>\n<p>The commission approved an addendum in the contract with the golf course designer Herfort Norby Golf Course Architects, LLC, of Chaska, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Norby receiving $6,400 more for designing the\u00a0 improvements:<\/p>\n<p>The addendum includes an estimate of $90,000 to $110,000.<\/p>\n<p>An estimate from Norby will be obtain for adding a second well to the golf course to improve the irrigation system.<\/p>\n<p>Project funding will be discussed at the regular City Park Board meeting Monday, May 12, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Game and Fish Department is urging boat owners who still need to renew their registration to use the agency&#8217;s online renewal system to speed up processing time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Department Licensing Manager Randy Meissner says the agency is dealing with a high volume of registrations as boat owners prepare for the new season. He says the processing time for mail applications is 10 to 14 days.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Meissner says that might be cutting it a little close for someone wanting to register a boat by Memorial Day weekend.
