(AP) &#8211; A man stopped in North Dakota because<br \/>\npolice thought he was a suspect in a North Carolina attempted<br \/>\nmurder turned out to simply share one of the wanted man&#8217;s names.<br \/>\nU.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Pigg says the detained man &#8220;was all<br \/>\nclear.&#8221; The man had the same name as an alias used by the North<br \/>\nCarolina suspect.<br \/>\nThe detained man, who was driving a light blue van, crossed into<br \/>\nNorth Dakota at the U.S. border crossing at Pembina, N.D.,<br \/>\nprompting law enforcement to intercept. He was not identified.<br \/>\nDozens of vehicles were backed up in the southbound lanes on<br \/>\nInterstate 29 shortly after 11 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota attorney general&#8217;s<br \/>\noffice will not press charges against Stark County Sheriff Clarence<br \/>\nTuhy (TOO&#8217;-ee) for an alleged theft from a nonprofit that accepts<br \/>\ndonations for the needy.<br \/>\nTuhy has said the incident was an &#8220;honest mistake.&#8221; The state<br \/>\nBureau of Criminal Investigation says in a letter that the matter<br \/>\ndoes not warrant prosecution.<br \/>\nTuhy is under fire for allegedly being ineffective at his job<br \/>\nand creating a toxic environment for workers in his office. A July<br \/>\n24 hearing is scheduled on the County Commission&#8217;s request to have<br \/>\nthe governor remove him from office.<br \/>\nTuhy has declined comment. He said in a report the county filed<br \/>\nwith the governor&#8217;s office that he can be tough but that he also is<br \/>\nfair.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota Republican U.S. House candidate Kevin Cramer has almost caught up to Democratic rival Pam Gulleson in their campaign fundraising race.<br \/>\nCramer&#8217;s campaign finance disclosure report shows he raised $276,000 in the last month. Since Cramer started his campaign last year, he&#8217;s collected almost $600,000 in donations.<br \/>\nGulleson&#8217;s Federal Election Commission report shows she raised about $123,000 during the last month. Her campaign has raised about $630,000 since it began.<br \/>\nGulleson has almost $380,000 in her campaign treasury now, while Cramer has about $273,000.<br \/>\nCramer defeated Brian Kalk last month in the North Dakota Republican primary for the party&#8217;s nomination to run for the U.S. House.<br \/>\nCramer says he&#8217;s been focusing since then on raising money to lessen Gulleson&#8217;s fundraising advantage. Gulleson did not have a Democratic primary challenger.<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A North Carolina-based company wants to<br \/>\nbuild housing in Grand Forks that would be marketed to University<br \/>\nof North Dakota students.<br \/>\nCampus Crest Communities of North Carolina proposes 12<br \/>\nthree-story buildings that could house 600 tenants, just north of<br \/>\nthe Alerus Center and southwest of the UND campus.<br \/>\nCity planners have recommended the City Council give zoning approval for<br \/>\nthe project.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A proposed budget for North Dakota&#8217;s<br \/>\ncolleges includes $10 million to help ease the impact of oil<br \/>\ndevelopment in Williston and Dickinson.<br \/>\nThe presidents of Williston State College and Dickinson State<br \/>\nUniversity say the oil boom in western North Dakota is making it<br \/>\ntougher to find and keep employees.<br \/>\nThey say student housing is short and there are some security<br \/>\nconcerns because of the influx of new workers.<br \/>\nThe Legislature will have to decide whether to provide the<br \/>\nmoney. Williston State President Ray Nadolny says it would be &#8220;a<br \/>\ngreat start&#8221; for easing the campus impacts of oil development. He<br \/>\nsays he&#8217;d like to see more campus housing.<br \/>\nDickinson State President D.C. Coston says the money could help<br \/>\nraise wages and provide security improvements.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The new chancellor of North Dakota&#8217;s<br \/>\nuniversity system says he needs to double his office staff to<br \/>\nprovide oversight for the state&#8217;s public colleges.<br \/>\nHam Shirvani says the system&#8217;s central office staff now has 26<br \/>\nemployees. The Board of Higher Education supports his effort to add<br \/>\n30 new workers.<br \/>\nShirvani says they would include attorneys, finance and<br \/>\npersonnel specialists and people to make sure university system<br \/>\npolicies are being followed.<br \/>\nShirvani says the lack of central oversight has caused problems<br \/>\nwith inconsistent policies among North Dakota campuses.<br \/>\nHe says Dickinson State&#8217;s recent problems with a special<br \/>\nacademic program for Chinese students could have been avoided with<br \/>\nbetter supervision.<\/p>\n<p>In sports\u2026<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Retired Minnesota Viking Jim<br \/>\nKleinsasser (KLYN&#8217;-sahs-ur) headlines this year&#8217;s class of<br \/>\ninductees into the University of North Dakota Letterwinners<br \/>\nAthletics Hall of Fame.<br \/>\nKleinsasser spent all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Vikings<br \/>\nafter being a second-round draft pick out of UND in 1999. He<br \/>\nappeared in more games than any tight end in Vikings history. He<br \/>\nretired after last season.<br \/>\nThe Carrington native was a two-time NCAA Division II All<br \/>\nAmerica tight end while at UND in the late 1990s.<br \/>\nThe 2012 class also includes John Christen, a tennis and<br \/>\nwrestling standout in the 1980s, and Louise Ronnerman, a cross<br \/>\ncountry and track star in the 1990s. UND&#8217;s 1997 NCAA Division I<br \/>\nchampion men&#8217;s hockey team also is being inducted. The Food and Drug Administration has<br \/>\napproved the first drug shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection.<br \/>\nThe pill, called Truvada, is a preventive measure for people who<br \/>\nare at high risk of acquiring HIV, such as those who have sex with<br \/>\ninfected partners.<\/p>\n<p>CAIRO (AP) &#8211; After weeks in a military hospital, ousted Egyptian<br \/>\nleader Hosni Mubarak has been returned to prison. A prosecutor says<br \/>\nMubarak&#8217;s health has improved from several weeks ago, when he was<br \/>\nreported to be on the brink of death. But others in Egypt see the<br \/>\nmove as a response to the belief that officials who were<br \/>\nsympathetic to Mubarak were exaggerating his health crisis to give<br \/>\nhim a more comfortable imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>EL-ARISH, Egypt (AP) &#8211; Two American tourists have been freed<br \/>\nunharmed by their kidnappers in Egypt, along with their Egyptian<br \/>\nguide. The kidnapper says he turned the three over to security<br \/>\nofficials after he was promised that authorities were working on<br \/>\nthe release of his uncle. He&#8217;d been detained by Egyptian<br \/>\nauthorities on suspicion of drug possession.<\/p>\n<p>DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) &#8211; Authorities in Iowa say they&#8217;ve<br \/>\nuncovered no significant evidence in the search for two missing<br \/>\ngirls, three days after their bicycles and a purse were found near<br \/>\na lake. Eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins and her 10-year-old<br \/>\ncousin, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, have been missing since leaving their<br \/>\ngrandmother&#8217;s house Friday afternoon. A sheriff&#8217;s deputy says<br \/>\nauthorities have been doing house-to-house searches around the<br \/>\nclock. He says it&#8217;s still considered a missing persons case.<\/p>\n<p>MIAMI (AP) &#8211; The author of the &#8220;Encyclopedia Brown&#8221; series of<br \/>\nchildren&#8217;s mysteries has died. Donald J. Sobol was 87. His series<br \/>\nfeatured amateur sleuth Leroy &#8220;Encyclopedia&#8221; Brown, who would<br \/>\nunravel local mysteries with the help of his vast knowledge of<br \/>\nfacts great and small.
