{"id":45690,"date":"2014-05-13T20:17:15","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T01:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=45690"},"modified":"2014-05-14T10:27:58","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T15:27:58","slug":"library-system-board-oks-new-downtown-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=45690","title":{"rendered":"Library System Board Ok&#8217;s New Downtown Location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong>JRVLS News Release &#8211; May 12, 2014:<\/p>\n<p>The JRVLS Board approved options to purchase two properties in downtown Jamestown, adjacent to the existing Alfred Dickey Library, \u00a0at its board meeting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibaryMapleMall2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-45691\" alt=\"LibaryMapleMall2\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibaryMapleMall2-300x202.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibaryMapleMall2-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibaryMapleMall2-259x175.png 259w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibaryMapleMall2.png 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The two properties, directly north of Alfred Dickey Library will allow for the construction of a new two level 16,000 sf state of the art addition to the 11,200 sf Alfred Dickey facility. \u00a0 AD will be renovated to take advantage of today\u2019s electronic innovations while preserving the beauty and heritage of the 1919 design. \u00a0Bringing the classic and the contemporary together allows the board to honor the past and recognize the constantly changing learning environment.<\/p>\n<p>The new facility will bring the Stutsman County Library, the bookmobile and the Alfred Dickey Library under one roof. The estimated cost of the new facility is $9,000,000. \u00a0Net cost after donations is conservatively estimated at $7,750,000.<\/p>\n<p>Concept drawing:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45715\" alt=\"LibraryDwtn500Concept\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept.png 500w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept-150x120.png 150w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/LibraryDwtn500Concept-218x175.png 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An initiative for a \u00bc% sales tax will be on the November 4<sup>th<\/sup>, 2014 ballot for city and county approval.\u00a0 The \u00bc% sales tax will cost the average Stutsman County family $33.75 a year according to the state tax office.<\/p>\n<p>The option agreements, included in the $9,000,000, are for the property owned by Satrom Rentals, immediately adjacent to AD, and the Maple Mall owned by Helen Ashwell.\u00a0 The Satrom property purchase price is $375,000. The Ashwell price is $399,000.<\/p>\n<p>The primary service that the public library provides is as the center of a community\u2019s learning network. A learning network that serves pre-school through high school, college through seniors. The library provides the tools for every Stutsman County child, teen, adult and senior to acquire new skills. The library helps people connect &#8211; to commerce, government and each other with new devices and technologies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-45736\" alt=\"Library BD on WB1\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1-233x175.jpg 233w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Library-BD-on-WB1.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The key word is \u201cALL.\u201d Not every child or adult has access to the internet, a smart phone or tablet. The library is crucial to those who do not have access to the latest electronic device. The library provides a balance of traditional materials, printed books, and internet access for learning.<\/p>\n<p>Think about Andrew Carnegie at the start of his life as a teenager, an immigrant and factory worker. He gives the library credit for shaping his future. Think about Louis L\u2019Amour at the beginning of his life as a constant visitor to the Free Alfred Dickey Library. He credits AD in Education of a Wandering Man with giving him the learning tools he needed to become one of America\u2019s greatest writers.<\/p>\n<p>The next Andrew Carnegie or Louis L\u2019Amour could be the first person to walk into the new James River Valley Library.<\/p>\n<p>The library brings people together for engagement around books, culture, neighborhood connection and civic exchange. All of which is augmented by ever changing electronic devices. The new library will act as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown Jamestown.
