The only statewide vote will be on Measure 1, a proposed constitutional amendment to set an earlier deadline for initiating petitions for ballot &#8211; 120 days before the election rather than 90.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Mayoral races in Jamestown, Valley City, \u00a0Fargo and Williston may stir voter interest in those cities but election officials aren&#8217;t expecting voters statewide to throng to the polls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police in Valley City have arrested a man following a hit-and-run accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Police Chief Fred Thompson says officers at approximately 10:07 PM on June Friday 6<sup>th<\/sup> tracked down the 54-year-old man using a license plate that was found at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Thompson says a witness reported seeing the man driving through a stop sign, striking a fence and then a light pole. No one was injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Thompson says police ran the license plate number through state records and used the information to locate a 2000 Nissan Maxima in a parking lot. Thompson says officers then interviewed the man, who showed signs of being intoxicated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a054 year old, Rickey Lee Johnson is facing preliminary charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0LISBON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A judge has dismissed a murder case against a North Dakota woman accused of her son&#8217;s death.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The \u00a0judge&#8217;s move came at the request of prosecutors in the case against 30-year-old Jodi Lindvall.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0Prosecutors asked for the dismissal after discovering a recording of a witness who questions the identity of the person who battered the boy.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney Peter Wold says the recording was provided by the mother of the then 6-year-old girl who was at the home when the incident happened in 2012.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lidvall earlier pleaded not guilty to murder.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge Ron Goodman denied the defense&#8217;s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning that the case could be brought again against the Fort Ransom woman.\u00a0 There&#8217;s no statute of limitations on murder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Fire Department and Fargo Fire Department conducted a Regional Training Exercise Monday afternoon at the Jamestown Civic Center Parking Lot.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown City Fire Chief, Jim Reuther said, the training exercise scenario was a hazardous materials release and is designed to test the hazardous materials teams core capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this training is to test a statewide plan and system for responding to hazardous materials incidents. \u00a0He added, this allows teams to assist local authorities in protecting the public, property and the environment from the immediate effects of hazardous materials release through the implementation of a statewide hazardous materials emergency response system.<\/p>\n<p>Grant monies were obtained from the Department of Emergency Services to conduct this training and equipment used during the training was purchased with grant monies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SPIRITWOOD, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Great River Energy is preparing to start up a multimillion-dollar power plant in southeastern North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Company spokesman Lyndon Anderson says the plant at Spiritwood will fire up its natural gas boilers in July and coal boilers in August. Production is to begin on November 1, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Construction of the plant wrapped up in 2010 but startup was delayed due to a drop in demand for electricity in Minnesota. Anderson says demand has since rebounded.<\/p>\n<p>The plant will produce electricity for homes and businesses and also steam. (AP) &#8211; Two man facing charges in a Mandan homicide have pleaded not guilty.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jonathan McKinney is charged with murder and tampering with evidence, and could face life in prison without parole if convicted. Warren Pfetzer (FEHT&#8217;-zur) is charged with evidence tampering, terrorizing and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He could face up to 20 years if convicted.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The two are charged in the death of Alex Lansdon, who was found dead Jan. 27 at the mobile home he rented in southeast Mandan. Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died of multiple gunshot wounds.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 McKinney and Pfetzer are scheduled for trial in late October and early November.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police in Bismarck say a woman accused of stabbing her brother three times has been charged with felony aggravated assault. Thirty-four-year-old Priscilla Lynn Bullbear stabbed her brother twice in the back and once in the chest. Bismarck Police say 12 people were at the house at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MANDAN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A former Mandan High School student accused of bringing a loaded gun to school has pleaded not guilty to four charges.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eighteen-year-old Todd Miller faces felony counts of accomplice to terrorizing and reckless endangerment, and misdemeanor drug and weapon counts. He could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted. His trial is scheduled for mid-September.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The school was put in lockdown on May 2 when police received a tip that a student had brought a gun to school. Police said they found the gun on Miller.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A 16-year-old boy also was arrested. His case is being handled in juvenile court, where proceedings are not open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Applications are being accepted for a program that helps low-income people pay their cooling bills.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Health officials say 137 households received assistance last year for cooling under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The so-called LIHEAP program helps eligible families pay for cooling, home heating and home weatherizing.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Funds can be used to purchase and install an air conditioning unit, repair an air conditioning unit, or to purchase fans for qualifying households.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A three-person household earning up to $41,633 per year may qualify for the program.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Department of Health says cleanup efforts continue in at least one of two pipeline spill sites that released a total of nearly 1,000 barrels of crude oil over the weekend.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kris Roberts with the health department says the agency has been told that oil has begun seeping out of affected soil at the site of a pipeline leak in McKenzie County. The pipeline spilled 300 barrels of oil on Saturday after it was damaged in a pipeline trenching operation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A barrel is 42 gallons.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Roberts says the cause of a 690 barrel pipeline spill near New Town is yet to be determined. He says the oil spill was mostly contained and cleaned up as of Saturday night. He says he does not know if cleanup is continuing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) The Veterans Affairs Department says no patients scheduling initial medical appointments at Fargo&#8217;s VA facility are waiting more than 90 days after their requests.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A nationwide audit found that the North Dakota location was just one of nine VA health care systems with an electronic waiting list that did not extend past 90 days. Data shows that 144 people who enrolled in the Fargo system over the past 10 years have never received an appointment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The audit of 731 VA hospitals and large outpatient clinics found that the agency&#8217;s complicated appointment process created confusion among scheduling clerks and supervisors.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The audit says a 14-day goal for seeing first-time patients was unattainable given the growing demand among veterans for health care and poor planning. (AP)\u00a0 Residents of Watford City are deciding whether to increase the oil patch city&#8217;s sales tax.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The measure on Tuesday&#8217;s primary election ballot calls for extending an existing 1 cent tax that expires in September and adding another half cent, to fund a $57 million events center and other projects.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new tax would generate an estimated $6 million per year. It would cost a household spending about $500 a month on taxable purchases an additional $2.50 in taxes.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Voters in Burleigh and Morton counties will be deciding the fate of a proposed joint jail.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A proposed half-cent sales tax to fund the facility in Bismarck is on the ballot in the two counties in Tuesday&#8217;s primary election.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The cost of the new jail and projects to transform the old facilities into office and courthouse space is estimated at about $70 million.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Law officials say the existing jails have run out of space.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Mandan has become the ninth city in North Dakota to have a concrete runway at its airport.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The city used a $6 million federal grant to fund most of the project, which replaced the runway&#8217;s asphalt surface with concrete.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The new runway was dedicated over the weekend.
