BE WEATHER READY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) A Jamestown man made his initial appearance in the Southeast District Court in Jamestown Wednesday, charged with multiple misdemeanor counts, related to alleged problems with contracts for his business.<\/p>\n<p>44 year old Brian Lee Hanson, appeared on 62 misdemeanor charges for alleged irregularities in more than 90 contracts he made with customers to finance the purchase of vehicles or the repair of vehicles at his business, Budget Auto Sales &amp; Service in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson appeared before Judge Thomas Merrick on 31 counts of usury, a Class B misdemeanor, and 31 counts of violating the Truth in Lending Act, a Class A misdemeanor.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson said he will be hiring his own attorney and is free on a personal recognizance bond. Hanson or his attorney will appear for a status conference scheduled for July 23, 2014, at 1:15 p.m..<\/p>\n<p>Merrick said because there are multiple misdemeanor charges the most time in jail Hanson would face if he is found guilty or pleads guilty is two years.<\/p>\n<p>After his court appearance Wednesday, Hanson denied to reporters that he offered to pay the interest on a woman\u2019s car loan and forgive one loan payment in exchange for her participating in a sexual encounter with him. Hanson has not been charged with any sexual crime in this matter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown \/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC), Executive Board was given a presentation on incentives for affordable housing at a special meeting Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Bank of North Dakota, commercial loan officer, Lori Gabriel, said the Flex Pace Affordable Housing Program is fairly new with 12 projects in North Dakota under construction. None were complete and occupied. The JSDC does not currently participate in the program.<\/p>\n<p>MetroPlains has applied for the program for the Jamestown Court Row Homes project at the old Essentia Clinic location.<\/p>\n<p>The board lacked a quorum and could not act on participation in the program, or to act on the application.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this week, increased the release from Jamestown Dam, after 2.5 inches of rain soaked the area June 18 and 19<sup>, <\/sup>2014<\/p>\n<p>The Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoir levels went up a foot.<\/p>\n<p>Pipestem Dam Manger, Bob Martin, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says<\/p>\n<p>the Jamestown Dam increase release went from 150 cfs, to 235 cfs on Monday, June 23, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The Pipestem Dam releases remains at 215 cfs for a combined release of 450 cfs.<\/p>\n<p>Martin adds that the water level at Jamestown Reservoir is also about 1 foot above normal summer lake levels, fluctuating with rain events.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The James River &#8220;Y&#8221; is currently hosting a Volley Ball Camp, in conjunction with the University of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the Y\u2019s Executive Director Frank Conlin said, over 100 high school girls from a 100 mile radius of Jamestown are participating through Saturday this week, at the Y and the Hansen Center, on Campus.<\/p>\n<p>Last week the camp was held for middle school girls.<\/p>\n<p>Conlin reported the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Annual Y, Golf Tournament was recently held at Jamestown Country Club, which had 18 sponsors. R.M.Stoudt offered a vehicle for anyone hitting a hole-in-one, on hole four, but unfortunately no one aced that hole.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds went to the youth scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p>Conlin reminds members, that the Y will be closed for the annual cleanup and maintenance week, July 7-11, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The Y\u2019s staff and University of Jamestown staff will perform the work, which includes draining a re-painting the swimming pool, and installing some new carpeting.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that swimming lessons continue this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Signups are being taken for the upcoming Camp Rokiwan at Spiritwood Lake, in July.<\/p>\n<p>The camp is a joint venture of the Jamestown Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships are available with applications available at the Y\u2019s front desk.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty openings are offered, and at that time the camp is about half full.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) Due to lack of support, the owners of Valley City\u2019s Cinema Flix movie theater may sell the business, look for investors or close the theater.<\/p>\n<p>On FaceBook, cinema owner, Jeremy Zako, note his options.<\/p>\n<p>He says costs incurred at the recently renovated theater amounted to about $250,000, and community support has not be sufficient in paying the overhead of running the business.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; One of two suspects in the fatal shooting of a man in Grand Forks is in custody.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police arrested the 18-year-old man Wednesday on an unrelated warrant for failing to pay fines. Charges against him were pending in the Tuesday slaying of 24-year-old Jose Lopez.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police are continuing to search for a 29-year-old man also wanted in connection with Lopez&#8217;s death. He is considered armed and dangerous.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lopez was found in an apartment building early Tuesday with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A 58-year-old Bismarck man is accused of holding a woman against her will in a motel room and raping her in the presence of her 7-year-old son.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A judge on Wednesday set bond at $150,000 cash for Kenneth Nash, who faces charges of gross sexual imposition, felonious restraint, interfering with an emergency telephone call and promoting obscenity to minors.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Court documents do not list an attorney for Nash. He could face life in prison if convicted.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the woman and her child went to the hotel room to hang out with Nash, and that Nash would not allow them to leave on Tuesday. They eventually were able to escape. The relationship between Nash and the woman was not clear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0ELGIN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities in Elgin say they are investigating reports of family pets being poisoned.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Grant County Sheriff Steve Bay says residents have called his office to report that when they took their sick dogs to the veterinarian, they were told the animals showed symptoms of ingesting rat or mouse bait poison.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ) 10 dogs have apparently been poisoned in the southwestern North Dakota town, and one has died.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bay says the local vet is getting a lot of calls about the dogs and that the investigation is one of the department&#8217;s top priorities.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stephanie Lince says her two dogs became sick with symptoms including continuous coughing as if they were choking. Their health has since improved.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lince says that &#8220;everyone is just paranoid of losing their animals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Agriculture Department has created a webpage to help anhydrous ammonia dealers comply with federal Environmental Protection Agency rules.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The site dealing with the Risk Management Program can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/1.usa.gov\/1lTBFZR\">http:\/\/1.usa.gov\/1lTBFZR<\/a> . Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says it provides guidance materials and tools to help anhydrous facility managers better understand the program and how they can comply.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anhydrous ammonia is a common farm fertilizer. The EPA requires all facilities that handle, process, or store 10,000 pounds or more of anhydrous to register with the agency and submit a risk management plan.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The EPA earlier this year granted authority to North Dakota&#8217;s Agriculture Department to enforce the requirements in the state. Goehring says pesticide and fertilizer staff will begin conducting inspections and compliance audits of anhydrous facilities in July.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Officials with American Crystal Sugar Co. say they should not have to testify in a lawsuit involving the sugar and corn syrup industries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 American Crystal is not part of the suit, but KFGO radio reports that the Moorhead, Minnesota-based company is being asked to provide information on genetically-modified sugar beets.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The complaint filed in California accuses corn syrup marketers of misleading consumers by claiming that sugar and high-fructose corn syrup are nutritionally the same.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lawyers for American Crystal say the information wanted by corn syrup marketers is &#8220;confidential, irrelevant or obtainable from other sources.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A judge has not ruled on the motion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0PEMBINA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The office of the U.S. Department of Customs and Border Protection in Pembina is reminding travelers to Canada to carry the proper documentation and expect heavy traffic at the border starting Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officials say border traffic volumes are expected to significantly increase through July 7 for the observance of Canada Day and Independence Day.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Travelers are being encouraged to cross during off-peak times such as before 6 a.m. or after 3 p.m.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say travelers should carry an acceptable travel document such as a passport, a U.S. passport card, a trusted traveler card, a permanent resident card or an enhanced driver&#8217;s license. Census Bureau data shows the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming and Oklahoma are attracting young men looking for work in the oil fields. Alaska and Hawaii also saw their population&#8217;s age slide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0TIOGA, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s governor and oil industry representatives are hosting the public at a celebration marking the state&#8217;s one million barrels a day oil production level. Governor Jack Dalrymple (DAHL&#8217;-rimp-ul) says hydraulic fracturing is the key to the future of not only North Dakota but the entire nation. The event featured an aerial acrobatics, a barbeque and a live band.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s general license plate is getting the first makeover in more than 20 years.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature&#8217;s Budget Section approved the new design unveiled by the state Transportation Department on Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new plate retains much of the same design components of the current plate released in 1993.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new plate still has a blue sky, a butte and a bison.
